    Attempted this today. First issue, when the old lens was removed, the LCD was firmly attached. Second issue, while trying to gently remove LCD from the lens, I unplugged the LCD from the board. This was due to the electrical tape used to secure the LCD being gummy and in-effective. Read entire comment for resolutions.
    The second issue was a plus. It led me to placing the lens/LCD lens side up on a heat-safe mat and using a heat gun (a blow dryer should work) and heating the lens to about 140F). Once it reached that temperature, I removed heat and when it dropped to 125F, I applied heat. Without a FLIR or IR thermometer, just heat until it is uncomfortable to touch then remove heat.
    Once it had been heated for 30 seconds, I was able to get a fingernail in a gap at the top of the LCD and it pried out easily.
    To replace the LCD, I watched th-cam.com/video/mkytIuXAMvA/w-d-xo.html and did that step then reversed it to reinstall the LCD. The tape was essentially worthless, but I had some Kaptan tape and replaced it with that. Seems very secure now.

    How important is the gluing ? I had a difficult time getting everything back together without the display going ga-ga. I finally got it,back together but no glue.

    • @Joesge
      @Joesge  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Glue is crucial for the watch to be water resistant. The glue creates a seal that helps block water and holds the screen onto the unit.

    Hi, I have opened up my Fitbit charge 2, but my LCD is fixed to the screen and can't get it off... I pulled slightly but nothing, I don't want to break the LCD. Is there a way to get the screen off the LCD?

    • @DavidBadajozdb
      @DavidBadajozdb 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the same result. I examined the new screen to determine where the LCD edge was, then carefully lifted edges away from the old screen using a Xacto knife. Then proceeded with the video. Note: I thought I damaged the LCD edges slightly however, this had no impact on the Fitbit. Also, there is a top and bottom (left and right) on the screen and you'll want to affix the new screen accordingly or it will not snap in correctly. The bottom has a larger black bottom frame or border.

    Thanks for making this tutorial video. Is there some kind of trick to get the actual LCD separated from the plastic cover part? I have two Fitbit Charge 2s and on both the LCD doesn't easily fall free from the plastic cover like in this video. The LCD seems to be attached to the plastic cover in some way like with glue or double-back tape. I tried to gently tug on the LCD ribbon cable but it doesn't budge from the plastic cover at all.

    I was able to get th screen off the LCD but the LCD was attached to the watch with a Cooper tag. I tried my best to keep it attached, but when I put the new screen on, the tag came loose and now I don’t see anything on the screen. I assume the tag was the key to the connection. I’ve tried to reconnect the tag with no success. Any suggestions?

So it’s hard to tell the time. And it’s getting worse and worse to the point I can’t tell the time anymore. Everything else on the screen is good and clear. Also the last couple days I’ve had to charge it every day too, compared to every 4-5 days. Does it pay to replace everything, or just get a new one, or do you have another suggestion? Take it apart and check the connection. Have you gotten it near water?

    Hello! I just changed the screen. But now nothing displays. Did I break it? It’s like it’s not charged- just a black screen…I am charging it now just in case…

    I am assuming a small amount of hand sanitizer on a soft cloth will remove any excess glue? If you are not aware of this, "heads up" I refurbish designer bags, wallets, shoes etc. It works great! This does NOT apply on painted surfaces!!
