As a Hawaii fan I remember this game. I knew it would be a very tough task going in. Hawaii's schedule was really weak that year, we barely beat Boise, which didn't have their best year. Barely beat some other teams too. The biggest difference between the two teams was the speed and athleticism. Hawaii's O line looked liked they were standing still on some plays. Georgia just had too much speed for Hawaii.
They didn't play for title because they lost two games and didn't win division. USC blew their chances too. Craziest and best season in history. Year of the upset. Would've been great year for playoffs.
Why would it have been a good year for a playoff? Ohio State was ranked #1 against Louisiana State. Louisiana State was the SEC Champion. We didn't need a playoff.
an undefeated team is going to be put in a title game especially if theyre the only undefeated team the fact that after the game you can spout off about how bad they got beat is irrelevant.

GA should have played USC that year & Hawaii should have played Illinois , would have been two much better games instead of the old Bowl tie bull shit , so u got two blow outs ...... & people wonder why no one is going to miss the BCS
Georgia was the best team this year but, in true Richt fashion, lost to a bad South Carolina team and laid an egg against a mediocre Tennessee team. I've always felt like they would have beaten LSU in the SECCG and then cruised to the NC against that highly overrated Ohio State squad. One of the craziest seasons and it produced a national champion with probably the weakest resume of any in modern college football history.
Typical mark richt loses. When opposing fans made fun of Georgia during his tenure about being a constant disappointment I couldn’t even disagree with them.
This game caused UGA to endure two more years of Willie Martinez’s horrible defensive scheme. I also like to think Hawaii’s #29 dirty cheap shots gave the good guys a little extra motivation.
Hawaii was a good team but Georgia was one of the best teams in the nation that year. They had some moments and fought hard but Georgia was to good and Hawaii had 7 penalties in first quarter and a half. And Brennan had 3 picks. There wasn’t many teams that would have beat Georgia that year.
Hawaii was clearly scared to play on the big stage. The first two plays showed just how shook they were. Playing an easy schedule did them no favors when it came to this game, and it clearly showed in their performance.
In retrospect Hawaii and Oklahoma should have swapped BCS bowl games. Hawaii would have made more sense to play the Fiesta Bowl and Georgia/Oklahoma here
isaiahagent u Yes, 12-0 against such power house programs as San Jose State, Louisiana Tech, UNLV, Fresno State, and Nevada. Their toughest opponent was Boise State who finished the year with three losses.
The game was played in Georgia's back yard (New Orleans) while Hawaii had to travel 4500 miles to the game. Had Georgia been given a week to prepare for game the outcome could have been different. Sure Georgia would have won but it would have been competitive.
NIKKA WTF GET CHO ASS OUT OF THE MF COMMENT SECTION CAUSE DAT SHIT IS MESSED UP ONG 🙄 YOU DONT EVEN UNDERSTAND HOW HARD IT IS TO GROW UP POOR BUT GUESS WHAT? EVEN THOUGH WE WERE POOR WE HAD WAY MORE FUN MEMORIES THAT WEVE EXPERIENCED AND GREW UP APPRECIATING EVERYTHING WE GOT YOU ASSHOLE
Yeah Bama tossed Georgia's salad that game but they're still really good looking alternates and UGA still had a 2-1 record with them. They could have worn any jersey against Alabama that year and still would have gotten their asses kicked.
Also, if it wasn't for tie-ins or that stuff, you could have thrown #11 Arizona State into this spot instead. Personally, I'd have sent Missouri here. Something, ANYTHING, that would have made for a better game. Hawaii may have still lost, but it could have been a 41-34 type game. They probably don't stop Mendenhall, but Brennan couldn't have done any worse against Illinois' defense. We could have used this year's Big Six Bowl stuff we have for the non-playoff stuff in 2007. So many intriguing matchups that could have been with a different format.
I'm from hawaii and I love my warriors, but as much as it hurts me to say this, hawaii should not have been in the sugar bowl with this monster of a team being Georgia, hawaii had the weakest undefeated streak maybe of all time, being that all the teams they beat were mostly unranked and average teams, it was painful to watch them get destroyed like they did, but maybe other teams can learn from this disaster, just because your undefeated doesn't mean you belong playing against the best.
My sister's high school was in a high school marching band showcase for this game. I watched part of this game because I was in the process of applying for a Master's degree in Classical Studies at Georgia when this game was being played ... I was accepted and chose Georgia over Kentucky, who also admitted me.
I had a coworker from Hawaii bet me $100 that her state would win. For 2 weeks I said I don’t want to take your money. She finally talked enough shit that I took the bet. I declined her money but made her bring me home cooked lunches for a week.
+NCISfanatic21 How did Georgia get into a BCS bowl in 2007? Better question would be: when will they ever get back to a BCS bowl? Both defense and offense got Hawaii into the game. It's a shame respect isn't given from money-grubbing conferences and fans.
And then he complains about us going for it on 4th down. The alternative is to kick a field goal, and guarantee the score gets worse than it already is.
I'm referring to a game played in 2008 where Alabama beat Georgia by a lot when Georgia last wore the black jersey not the 2012 game where both teams played fantastic. My point was it wouldn't have mattered what they wore in 08 cause Alabama was much better in that particular season although Georgia is going to be one of the up and coming nat. title teams in 2013. Same with A&M.
This is one of the games that I point to for examples of anti-Georgia bias. All they talked about was how Hawaii could win. "Who would think that Georgia would be leading in passing yards?" I just love how they bragged how the Hawaii offensive line only gave up 30 sacks the whole season, and then Georgia goes and gets 8 sacks!!😂😂😂
Funny how UGA wasnt supposed to be able to hang in this game because of Hawaii's passing game. To be fair, Georgia had a great team this year. But it was fun to see them prove all the haters wrong.
Gooner Caleb Uh yeah they talked about that but Georgia was still a heavy favorite. Look up the odds on the game. Georgia is a two touchdown favorite and 70% of ESPN viewers picked Georgia to win in a poll.
Colt Brennan saw a big difference from having 8-10 seconds in the pocket compared to playing a Georgia defense where he only had 3-4 seconds in the pocket.
hawaii thought they were actually gonna beat georgia. i seen georgia football and they are big, fast and just better. hawaii should be grateful they were invited to the sugar bowl.
Peak of the Rainbow Warriors. After this the WAC collapsed and UH had to downgade to the Big West for all sports apart from FB, and now Aloha Stadium is toast and the Bows are stuck playing in a glorified practice field thats almost a 3rd of the previous stadium's capacity. No longer does the NFL Pro Bowl play in Hawaii anymore... New Aloha Stadium cannot come soon enough, and perhaps for the program an invite to a resuscitated Pac-2?
They really shouldn't have put Hawaii in this game. This was like you sometimes see in high school when a school with 2,000 students plays one with 500. They had no hope against Georgia along the lines of scrimmage. These Hawaii kids got embarrassed and it wasn't their fault.
That doesn't make any sense. Are you talking about the year LSU/Bama played in 2012? Both teams were basically undefeated and LSU beat UGA in the SEC championship. If you're talking the year UGA played Hawaii, I think it should have been UGA vs. Ohio State. UGA lost early to Tennessee, and didn't lose a game the rest of the year if I'm not mistaken. They didn't get a chance to play in the SEC championship because of that loss, but they were the better team at the end of the year.

Am I just hearing things, or did the announcer, at 1:19:00 say "First down for the gators". Please tell me Im wrong.
... and both those teams play in the Securities and Exchange Commission.
I don't even get how that guy got that wrong
that's like right after looking at uga too
Who In their right mind thought it would be a good idea to pit these two teams together!?
This game caused UGA to endure two more years of Willie Martinez’s horrible defensive scheme. I also like to think Hawaii’s #29 dirty cheap shots gave the good guys a little extra motivation.
Hawaii was a good team but Georgia was one of the best teams in the nation that year. They had some moments and fought hard but Georgia was to good and Hawaii had 7 penalties in first quarter and a half. And Brennan had 3 picks. There wasn’t many teams that would have beat Georgia that year.
Damn Brennan's throwing motion was so slick.
That day Georgia was the best team in the country.
Hawaii was clearly scared to play on the big stage. The first two plays showed just how shook they were. Playing an easy schedule did them no favors when it came to this game, and it clearly showed in their performance.
They weren't scared they were overmatched
@@Talkinsports91 They we’re scared the moment they realized they were overmatched😅
i was at the game. it was super exciting leading up to it.
Both team’s uniforms were baller
I was there, and Hawaii fans were talking mad shit before the game. Haha, they really thought they were going to win.
jakethemuss3 probably because u guys were talking shit too
Maybe because hawaii were the underdogs coming in
Well it looked like there was no plan b when they couldn't run the run and shoot on Georgia.
they would have won...... if Georgia was in the Rose Bowl and Illinois was here.
In retrospect Hawaii and Oklahoma should have swapped BCS bowl games. Hawaii would have made more sense to play the Fiesta Bowl and Georgia/Oklahoma here
RIP Colt Brennan
Best game a Willie Martinez Defense ever played....
Matthew Stafford's reward? Getting to play for the NFL equivalent of Hawaii!!
You mean, *SUPER BOWL CHAMPION* “Matthew Stafford”? 😅
Respect to the Colt Brennan years
UGA was just too big and physical for poor little Hawaii
No it should have been close after all before this game Hawaii's record was 12-0 and Georgia had 10-2
isaiahagent u Yes, 12-0 against such power house programs as San Jose State, Louisiana Tech, UNLV, Fresno State, and Nevada. Their toughest opponent was Boise State who finished the year with three losses.
+saldiven2009
Hawaii's toughest opponent would be any one of its islands high school programs.
35:45 Pure beauty - the greatest fight song in all of sports.
I'm from hawaii and I love my warriors, but as much as it hurts me to say this, hawaii should not have been in the sugar bowl with this monster of a team being Georgia, hawaii had the weakest undefeated streak maybe of all time, being that all the teams they beat were mostly unranked and average teams, it was painful to watch them get destroyed like they did, but maybe other teams can learn from this disaster, just because your undefeated doesn't mean you belong playing against the best.
hawaii deserved a bowl game. but uga shoulda played for it all. no knock on hawaii they just ran into us at the wrong time
+xMtF54x it will
always be a wrong time for Hawaii to run into Georgia
The WAC was 2-0 in BCS bowl games before this. I don’t think is was crazy to put them in this game.
We did betta den tcu 2023 Boiz 🤙🏾
My sister's high school was in a high school marching band showcase for this game. I watched part of this game because I was in the process of applying for a Master's degree in Classical Studies at Georgia when this game was being played ... I was accepted and chose Georgia over Kentucky, who also admitted me.
D. Ruesch, my thoughts exactly.
How's bragging camp going?
1:24:00
Hawaii had absolutely no business being in the same building as UGA
They got placed in the wrong BCS game. Hawaii should have been in the Fiesta Bowl vs West Virginia and Oklahoma should have played Georgia here.
I had a coworker from Hawaii bet me $100 that her state would win. For 2 weeks I said I don’t want to take your money. She finally talked enough shit that I took the bet. I declined her money but made her bring me home cooked lunches for a week.
How did Hawaii get in a BCS bowl?
Offense-simple as that.
+NCISfanatic21 Your guess is as good as mine.
+MarsRacingNetwork Pretty solid answer you muse be right
+NCISfanatic21 How did Georgia get into a BCS bowl in 2007? Better question would be: when will they ever get back to a BCS bowl? Both defense and offense got Hawaii into the game. It's a shame respect isn't given from money-grubbing conferences and fans.
+uluabeach first off Hawii hasn't made a bowl game in years !
This Georgia team would have beat the piss outta LSU, Southern Cal, and OSU...it would have gotten seriously out of hand!
If only they had beaten Tennessee
Our defense really came on strong the last 4 or 5 games of that season. SORRY Willie Martinez, hello Todd Grantham GoDawgs! SicEm!
You are right. but remember that Boise state coach has the best winning percentage out of coaches with 5 or more years of experience.he is 84-8
The Run and Shoot: stupidest offense in the history of football.
And then he complains about us going for it on 4th down. The alternative is to kick a field goal, and guarantee the score gets worse than it already is.
Rip colt brennan
Hawaii was physically outmatched, mentally weak and outcoached
in the post-BCS era, the dawgs would have been playing usc for the nc
2:16:50 Hearing Thom Brennaman whine like a little bitch was my favorite part of the game.
WOW all I can say is Hawaii welcome to SEC football
Funny how UGA wasnt supposed to be able to hang in this game because of Hawaii's passing game. To be fair, Georgia had a great team this year. But it was fun to see them prove all the haters wrong.
Hawa'ii was the underdog in this game.
youre crazy man, ESPN and everyone else was slobin on Colt Brennan's knob and talking about how UGA didnt have any pass defense.
Gooner Caleb Uh yeah they talked about that but Georgia was still a heavy favorite. Look up the odds on the game. Georgia is a two touchdown favorite and 70% of ESPN viewers picked Georgia to win in a poll.
Cryofax closing odds for UGA was -8
Are you seriously trying to say Georgia was the underdog ? Lol
Georgia would have beaten anyone in bowl season that year. Two early losses and then off to the races.
Colt Brennan saw a big difference from having 8-10 seconds in the pocket compared to playing a Georgia defense where he only had 3-4 seconds in the pocket.
You mean like every other QB in the world that has ever played the game.
Props to u. U are a classy fan. Yeah we did outmach u but yall played a pissed off team
Georgia and Hawaii seem to have some relationship in sports lol
hawaii thought they were actually gonna beat georgia. i seen georgia football and they are big, fast and just better. hawaii should be grateful they were invited to the sugar bowl.
What is this game name?
They retired the black jerseys bc of the bama beatdown we got in Athens in 2008 I believe....
They're back this year.
Man Hawaii is so good
2:07:32 A young Breiden Fehoko from LSU.
Really enjoyed this video!
Still Down for my Warriors !
+phil robb Hawaii had no business playing in the Sugar Bowl.
You are a great fan the Warriors were fun to watch that year.
@@Walker_Bulldog like Central Florida had no business playing Georgia?
I wonder at what point did Hawaii realize....this isn't the WAC 🤔😎
That doesn't make any sense. Are you talking about the year LSU/Bama played in 2012? Both teams were basically undefeated and LSU beat UGA in the SEC championship. If you're talking the year UGA played Hawaii, I think it should have been UGA vs. Ohio State. UGA lost early to Tennessee, and didn't lose a game the rest of the year if I'm not mistaken. They didn't get a chance to play in the SEC championship because of that loss, but they were the better team at the end of the year.
good God Hawaii's o-line was scared all night. Just goes to show games are won in the trenches thats why the SEC is on top
The run and shoot really took this Hawaii team far.But the SEC talent won out.Obviously.
Hawaii made it to the Sugar Bowl?
