    How do I calculate this if the angle difference between the direction of the runway and where the wind is coming from is greater than 90°? Say 130°, or 260° at 26 knots Gusting 32 knots, runway direction is 130°. Do I simply use 90° on the chart?

    Hi Jeffrey, thanks a lot for sharing this helpful video. I wonder how you find crosswind & head wind with the following details:
    050/30
    Runway 17
    I had this question in casa exam and I couldn't solve it. 😕

  • @ehsan83
    @ehsan83 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    so one crazy question 😜If we have a 150° wind at 42 knots then the answers are :
    HW : 0 ts
    X-wind : 42 kts
    correct? at what degree of the wind it becomes forbidden to fly or the runway should be changed? What is the limit for the headwind the be respected? does it depend on different aircrafts?
    Thank you

    Would that not be easyer :
    cos ( Angle between wind direction and runway ) * Wind Velocity = HD ( around 27 kts )
    sin ( Angle between wind direction and runway ) * Wind Velocity = CW ( around 32 kts )
    and the results are the same

    calculating x wind is easy you don't need a chart to do it, it can all be done rule of thumb the sixth's rule
    1/6 2/6 3/6 etc...for this 50* it would be .77 x 42 knot x wind give 32knots of crosswind, using that you can mentally know the crosswind component by simple multiplication in your own head :) once it gets to 6/6 it gets tricky and you have to mutliply by .9 instead of .87 to reduce error from 30% to 3% aslong as you're in the ballpoint you should be fine to anticipate it :)

    Excellent However : You needed to show how did you get the HW and X-Wind ( by using the clock fraction and calculation ) Reason is that on Flight test if the instructor asks you to give him the X-wind on the final approach . You wont have time for chart...... If 50* is equal to 50Mns etc...

    the calculation in video is incorrect because you need to get the direction of wind from METAR/TAF (True North) plus/minus variation from VNC to have the direction of wind in degrees from Magetic North to calculate the difference between RW and wind. Your calculation is incorrect because you calculated the difference from RW (from MNorth) and wind (True North).
