Carl Jung's AION - Attracting Self and Grasping Individuation

  • This video is a bit numinous. Not only the material covered, but how it all came to be. I began with the Greek Philosophers, from Parmenides through Thales of Miletus.
From there, I connected his ideas with Jung's chapter in Aion where an attraction from a specific magnet is discussed. The alchemist, the adept, was interested in a specific Echeneis fish because of its ability to attract to a vessel and have it come to a standstill. An allegory to the EGO - Self relationship.
So, I covered the entire chapter in Aion where this fish is discussed. It is a powerful video on many topics, including the great work of individuation, Truth, prima materia, Logos & Eros, archetypes, the philosophers stone, ancient Greek philosophy, shadow work, inner child (trauma) healing, being & becoming, and Oneness.
Content Covered: Aion Ch. 11 - The Alchemical Interpretation of the Fish

    What do YOU think!? 💭
What else can you add to this chapter?
Why didn’t Jung connect the material back to the ancient philosophers?
    Let me know below 🌊

    • @alchemyforyou709
      @alchemyforyou709 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

I don't think there is anything to add. The content here will unravel in many different ways depending on the individual. Its revelatory nature will make sure of that.
As to why Jung didn't connect the material with the ancient philosophers, we'll never really know, but surely we can speculate on that for a moment. Perhaps everything depends on the point of contemplation to truth and reality. When the material is juxtaposed, the connections and bridges they form can be seen. Both reveal universal Truth and uncover Reality. However, there is something profoundly transformative in an individual when revelation through insight, intuition and visions or (Sama) is realized.

This was excellent. I re-watched the middle 5 or more times.
If you were going to add something it would be a focus on the transitions between stages.
Stage 1) The fish/magnet/Self is attracting the ship/iron/ego. Possibly stopping its forward (ego) motion.
Stage 2) The Ego/Ship seeks the "elusive" fish/Self.
Stage 3) The seeker begins to embody the ways of the magnetic/fish/Self, using new ways to attract vs pursue the Fish/Self.
Stage 4) The seekers sense of self shifts to a union of self/Self,
      Key take-aways;
How the self/Self conspires to use Ego Experience for changes toward self/Self-alignment.
How what is to be changed must become conscious. What is un-conscious is almost deterministic.
How False Beliefs at the Ego experience level would distort the processing of experience such that self-alignment. would never occur.
The quote "What you are seeking is seeking you" comes to mind,
      Thanks for an epic video!

Thanks for the excellent work. There's nothing to add to the chapter; though one will benefit immeasurably by consciously adding its message to their habitual modes of function.
And there's nothing to add to your superb presentation of it either. You've provided enough of a foothold for anyone who's genuinely interested to take their own well-regulated journey toward embodying it.

As a seeking self, with much experience of the world, yet only beginning to grasp my place in it I reflect upon this presentation with new, or shall I say renewed understanding.
It was through loss and pain that I found myself isolated from the world which rejected me and I, in turn rejected. I began to know without knowing that the clichés and metaphors I identified with were the only possible way of impressing upon my consciousness the unconscious nature of the duality of what I perceive as the world stage. I found I desired not to be of this place, but to escape from being in it.
The concept of an original sin that was outside of my control was abhorrent to me. Like the dead who came from Jerusalem to be sermonized by Basilides, I have rejected my God as a true god. I am a slow learner with a quick wit and the obsessive compulsive nature comparative to the vessel drawn by the magnet of the magicians who have successfully created the lapis philosiphorum. As above So below...
Are you in a position to reply yeah or nay when I assert that: We, as individually created man, are the fish, the lead, the bee and such insults... upon which the electromagnetic field, illusions, weight of the world, duality that creates joy and suffering, pain and pleasure, so that transmutes from 1s and 0s, Anode and Cathode to: gold and honey to power the system and feed the gods. Or are you a beneficiary who would lead those who do discover that their nature is not wholly their own, down the garden path of inner work and further alleyways of incarnations to keep the wheel of time in motion?
    Asking for a friend.

when I was 12, homework in my high school literature class was Jung's Man and His Symbols. I kept falling asleep while reading the first chapters My mom thought the material was too challenging for a freshnan, but I learned later that the deep sleep is the subconscious processing. Anyway, I absorbed a few things which made a lasting impression on how I viewed the mind and dreams. One is that water in dreams represents the subconscious.
The Hopi family names- The Bear Clan, the Fire Clan, etc, originated during their migration, the First People into what is now known as North America . The first person to see a bear, established the Bear Clan, because the animal had never been seen before.
I read an Kanaka Maoli account of the first time a certain bird was seen- the demigod Maui had pointed out the bird with red feathers to someone and then there were many. But before then, the bird hadn't been seen before and so didn't exist.

My point is- this fish in your video is-
      In water
The ship is seeking this fish.
The fish is both an individual, and yet through some sort of magnetism, becomes attached to the ship that is looking for it. This fish with quasi weird boundaries is real.
Indigenous cultures are people of the earth and remember their own origination.
The Hopi were the first people and saw the first bear.
The Hawaiian red bird did not "exist" before it was pointed out by a quasi- divinity who could "see" it.
The Dalai Lama and Neuroscientists agree on Subjective Realism. The mind receives a massive influx of information, filters it down according to its logic, then projects it's worldview back out, and each person interacts with their own projection.
      After enlightenment, Buddha didn't sleep.

Wow just amazing content and delivery. I watched the video a few times over and over, walked away to digest and came back to it again. I am still digesting.
Joseph are you doing one on one teachings/coaching? If you do, I like to learn more about it.

So glad to see you include the Juan and Maria Balboa translations of Greek philosophy. If you haven’t already connected with his material, I recommend Pierre Grimes as a teacher of Greek philosophy who makes the link that Jung did not, and that you allude to here. Delving into the spirituality of platonic and neo-platonic philosophy (in addition to the pre-socratics) has been very enlightening for me.

You are the first person I’ve met who know of this work! Yes, I’ve actually added Pierre in a few of my past lectures. I found Jung after an experience with Self. But since finding this new translation, my entire focus has shifted to connecting Jung to the TRUE philosophers. I’m working through Plato’s Parmenides now.🤯 (You’ll enjoy the next series I have coming next) Blessings!

@@HumbleUMedia excellent! In my own circle I put together a weekly study/discussion group covering Proclus’s Elements of Theology. Exploring these teachers with others was a deeper level of engagement than doing it alone. Godspeed with the Parmenides, it is a dragon in itself and well worth the time and effort. Glad to connect with you here ⭕️

I think most of Jung's specific techniques for working on the individuation process where clearly outlined by Parmenides (like active imagination). Even they were presented by the Greek as healing tools. Maybe he was dazzled by his own projection. That's the reason why one usually doesn't see things that are clear, even obvious, to others

Are you familiar with a book name A Course in Miracles ? It takes Jung's thinking to the spiritual level in relation to religion. The connections for me are earth shaking. You can follow a train of thought from Spinoza to Jung to ACIM. Add in the time factor or the authors it becomes an evolution.

Joseph thank you for your excellent delineation of the key Jungian concepts of ego, self, unconscious and the rest of it. I first read Jung many years ago and thought I had a fairly good grasp of him but you have brought out and clarified much. I have listened to your Red Book talks and am inspired to give it another reading after what you have said about it. A friend gave me a copy of that belonged to his mother who was a Jungian analyst after she passed away. Keep up the god work. BTW this morning I was listening to an interview of several of the masterminds of AI, their outlook was generally very dark, what/how do you see AI’s impact on humanity, life on earth in the future. In particular AI is one-dimensional, I.e. limited to the mental level….

I’ve wanted to do a video on AI and I (artificial vs intelligence) as we are losing our instincts. Our thinking and intuition are being stripped from the common folk, and then you don’t have that all you have is what someone else programs into you. Scary times indeed… unless we come back to Self and humble ourselves 😋 I’ll have more videos out soon! Much love ❤️

Thanks I have going through this "work" as a layman to academia, I struggle not with the conceptual ideas but with the meaning attributed to the words whether outdated latin or big ol' college words. thanks for the breakdown, Maybe ill try to read Aion, but I have a feeling I will not be able to understand as with most philosophers. Honestly I am not sure if being uneducated is slowing down this process or speeding it up, but I would find solace in what I am going through is explainable and relatable to others.

I hope not to create controversy but so much of this is the experience of psychedelic “trip” for those who are aware of what is happening to them in the trip. This is essentially a spiritual awakening and experience. I’m always fascinated Jung got there without using those substances or magnesium.

      @HumbleUMedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I think there’s a graduation process or a elevation process of this Where we realize we don’t need drugs to induce the experience. I’ve been at work doing this for a year now with no relapse of drinking and a greater sense of my (self) . Daily work. Your videos are amazing and show Jung’s amazing decent into the depths of consciousness and self and I believe more importantly the rise into a new be-ing . I have regular discussions with a large community of people who use etheogens to achieve this alchemical process you masterly described in the video. Their universal experience is ditto to what Joseph Cambell and Alan Watts described years ago with knowledge of their prior work and experience. I’ve found that there are is no place of perfection with this but layers of the conscious/unconscious self that are transformed by hard long work . There is of course the awakening that does produce a total and permanent change but with other areas that remain for more self improvement. There were so many things in your Red Book series that speak of the catharsis of spiritual development I enjoyed. My experience last year was on 400ug of LSD which was horrible and beautiful at the same time. The intensity of that high dose was brain crushing but the release from the body and bliss of oneness was simultaneously amazing and totally worth it . I’m planning on another expedition but at a much lower dosage lol mainly to reinforce the prior experience and to get into that egoless state again. After that I’m planning on just doing more traditional work with a guide and see where that goes.

so we are a momentary fragment in space-time. and we think we are IT. life tho will show us that we are not, that idea must die in us. most people won't accept this terrible crucifixion, they are kicking and screaming about it. but all religions teach we must lay down our egos and bow to something greater. Jung says to accept this process, and 'from the depths' the SELF will arise to assure you that you are infinite in the ONE. and science now is theorizing that we are finite particles floating in an 'infinity'- hard to wrap one's mind around that. multiple worlds and realities. Einstein and Jung arrived at the same time in history. one explored the outer world and the other the inner world.....it seems like now both theories are leading to the same conclusion, INFINITY is the only true reality, a double revelation! and Joseph, great series, i feel you brother!!

In reflection of all my recent and past posts. I have begun to realize what I am now awaking too. The Truth of God. If God truly created everything. Then that includes EVERYTHING. The Devil, Demons, Angels, Humans, etc. In other words all the colors: Pink, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Violet, Indigo, Fifty Shades of Grey, Plus the mixing equals Black absorbing, and White reflecting. The Full Color Spectrum That is Life. For we all stand in the Light and Cast a Shadow at the same time. Stay Human. LOVE with Grace. This is what I am working on. Internal Alchemy plus external Alchemy. Why..? Because when you mirror reality all of God is embedded in it. Truth..!

The Greeks viewed water as Consciousness. So, Thales of Miletus was saying that everything comes from consciousness. Even science is exploring that idea now. For more, see Professor Donald Hoffman out of University of California, Berkley. Personally, I know this to be true. Further, the Gnostics weren't called "Gnostics" back then; They were called "The Essenes."

Would love to clarify before responding. Identity as in? Like a persona? EGO? Or true identity, Self? If it is the later, there is nothing carrying identity, rather it carrying you.
As for dream state, can you expand on what you mean by this? Like an active imagination/meditation type, or sleeping or what exactly are you meaning by “dream state”
This should help further this discussion

I think the neo understanding of “mindfulness meditation” may have lost the plot as to the purpose and meaning behind why it’s so effective at healing mental afflictions. You don’t simply silence yourself and listen to thought patterns, you are instead having a conversation with yourself and the universe which is also you.
If I talk over you again and again we will get nowhere in understanding eachother, if I stay silent and let you speak you are getting no input as to my advice on the situation. The respectful back and forth with oneself in the mind is where the golden nugget of growth is prospected.
Imagine talking to someone who has no senses. They will find a way to communicate one way or another. Emotion, visions, sudden realizations: I believe these are all forms of communication the inner you is using to communicate. Imagination is the tool by which you receive the messages.

What's more puzzling to me is I thought Jung could read Greek so I doubt his overlooking came from bad translations. (Neither would he make such a mistake considering his historical understanding and fascination)
Him being a Nietzsche fan he must have surely seen that there is some importance hidden in Platos works.
Maybe he deliberately devoted himself to others less popular than the Greeks because the Greeks already got enough attention collectively while he seeked to fish around the surrounding areas to bring his finds to the collective as well.
