I'm an atheist but I absolutely love this song, and a lot of other songs by Lifehouse, because they are just so beautiful. Whether the song reminds you God, a loved one, your parents, a friend, anything; its gorgeous.
My Dad passed away 6 years ago. As I made the 25-30 minute drive to my parents home most days, this song was almost always on. It brought me peace, comfort.
I always thought lifehouse songs were mostly relationship songs. Songs about your girlfriend or boyfriend. Until my friend told me to listen to the lyrics in a different way. I thought of God :) Glad my friend told me about that! Even more in love with lifehouse after I realized many of their songs are about God! God = Love! :) With God, I know everything will be alright

Thank you to whoever uploaded this video. I dont know what it is but this video got me through some pretty dark times when I was having issues breaking up with my girlfriend when it was uploaded. Today we are married and just bought our first house and I am now learning that again she may be done with me. After ten years later this song just popped up in my head again. Literally havnt heard it since but here I am, longing to hear the same song that comforted me soo many ago. I hope she can find that love she once had for me, that maybe she can be happy with the life we have made together, that we could be happy together, and not separated, and that when she looks me in the eyes, she can think everything will be all right.

I have never felt such a connection to a song. I cried like a baby the first time I heard it. No words could better express how I have felt since my husband died in my arms 10 very long and painful years ago. "Barely surviving has become my purpose, cause I'm so used to living underneath the surface". "If I could just see you......" No truer words have been spoken.
This song reminds me of dealing with people's harsh criticisms and being overcome by stress by not being wise enough to deal with life because instead of seeking peace I am seeking trouble, but my laziness becomes my zeal and when it builds, it overflows and becomes zeal without knowledge and without empathy, having words spoken out of season and thoughts out of proportion, but I know that God understands and I should be loving towards people and someone who doesn't point out people's faults all of the time, so that is my interpretation of this song.

This is a love song...but it's probably not about who you think it is. This song is about Jesus when He walked on water in the storm and Peter came out to him on the water but started sinking because he was afraid and started to doubt that what was happening was possible. Jesus then pulls him from out of the water. What a beautiful image.
Damn this song has gotten me through some hard times. Two years ago i would be listening to this crying in sadness, pain, hurt & agony. Today im listening to this crying, in happiness, gratefulness, and absolute peacefulness. Life is what you make it, i promise it is. I turned mine around. I think most people would see a human relationship love song, but i can see that maybe Lifehouse was inspired by a more profound love, maybe they were inspired by Bible passage when Jesus asked Peter to walk on water, Peter was sinking, fighting with the waves around him, and asking for help, but Jesus took his hand and everything was ok :)
***** Granted, love among people is a BIG thing, in fact Christianity teaches that one of the goals in life given by God is to learn lo love each other. IT doesnt have to be a sexual relationship like hollywood says it should be, and that is a big mistake in our modern age. Ancient greeks had two different words for Love (eros and Agape). I can understand that your current love meter tops at human level if you havent experienced God's love. God's love is way bigger and it isnt in clonflict with human's love. Au contraire it gives love to another people another boost,dimension and depth because God is Love and He teaches to love each other because we all have the same image of God in us. There is a lot more to say about that but if your really interested you should try to read a little bit the Gospels and other books from the Bible, if you read it carefully with an open mind your soul will be much much richer. ***** Glad that you did take the time to read at some point, i undestand your viewpoint because being a "decent" person is a common ground in most religions and it has to do also with a common "sense of good/bad" in humans, again that is what the bible says when it refers to a common desire for good/justice/transcendece that God put in the human hearts so people can act and reason on same principles. However christianity is a relational religion if you can call it that way , is not about reading alone , is more of personal experience with God and building that relation up with the years. Its hard to explain is more easy to experiment it by sincere will to rech Him by the means He already put at our hands. I recomend a book called "mere christianity" from C.S. Lewis . I know how you feel a bit. :( I lost my fiance and I don't know how I've been living 2 years without him. It doesn't even feel like time has passed and it feels like I'm living in this cycle of 1 year before he died and then the 2 years after. It hurts.
AutumnCreations Sorry for your loss and pain. I'd like to tell you it gets better but you learn to live with it. I think mostly that has to do with the love that you feel for the person that's gone. I know my daughter, made me laugh, even when I was out of sorts, and she would want me to laugh and smile even now. I listen to a lot of music she liked and also songs like this to feel closer to her. I hope you find peace. Sometimes I still search for that .... but most of the time I smile because I have some really good memories.
I also feel the same way as you. For a moment I thought I wrote your post. Lost my daughter almost seven years ago. I also play all her music, as we both loved the same music. Use to also dance together all the time. It hasn't gotten better for me. I still miss her so very much. Her passing was unexpected, had a fall the day after Christmas and hit the back of her head. What a tragedy. To this day I hate receiving phone calls. She was my life!! Miss her terribly and that sweet smile of hers. She was so gentle and feminine. Very kindhearted. Miss her terribly, but music makes me feel like she is still with me.

I have lovely memories but I still feel the loss. It will be 10 yrs for me this year but I still have days that I cry. Not like I did the 1st 2 or 3 years but it still hurts. Those who want to find God, I suggest trying to pray more, or first you might want to go to a church ask the pastor about your confusion and worship the Lord together. For sure the most important thing is to open up ur heart. I think I've found God, he is always with me. Not only for 2 years since I came to study abroad, but over 20 years since I came to the world. When I looked back of my life, I realized things were all his plan. He helped me a lot although I never knew his name before. I didn't know him, but he knows me. My condolences to both you, your grandmother, and your entire family. That is really a state of complicated grieving. Many people would break under such horrible pain. I hope in time you all find meaning in this pain and that it makes you stronger for having survived it. Everyone grieves in their own time, in their own ways - but expect that within whatever order, you will experience the 5 stages of grief - denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. That last one is a big challenge.
Storm.....so many thoughts....when you finally find what I feel, is aunconditional love, which should be the type of love that is truly rare I think and, maybe if we are lucky, maybe we might find one maybe two in our lifetimes...it's so much more than I can put in words completely but the bond between two unconditionals/it's maybe as if no matter where they lay their head would be home for you, n, your a no matter what in their eyes, walk beside an never in front unless to protect. Even when the rest of the world is convinced and the odds are stacked, no matter what.....n I know some will say, what about cheating or unlawful activity.....with a unconditional the spiritual passion an growth. The connection between the two is unlike any couple you see day to day....it's as if their scent alone is the key that reveals our other half, their voice alone can only calm you an when one an the same is like wearing their love as a armor and just wish to unzip an be held safely within.....maybe.just my thoughts at this moment.....

I feel like this song is talking about my life since this Summer, I lost my best friend, my girl friend, and that person I trusted because of a situation so confusing and screwed up. I just don't know anymore. I just want everything to be over. I want it all to be done. I tried fighting, but its worn me out. I can't see her anymore. Its my fault, She doesn't seem to care either anymore. She was all I cared about for 4 months while we dated, and now, i don't even know if I will ever see her again.

This song reminds me of dealing with people's harsh criticisms and being overcome by stress by not being wise enough to deal with life because instead of seeking peace I am seeking trouble, but my laziness becomes my zeal and when it builds, it overflows and becomes zeal without knowledge and without empathy, having words spoken out of season and thoughts out of proportion, but I know that God understands and I should be loving towards people and someone who doesn't point out people's faults all of the time, so that is my interpretation of this song.

This is a love song...but it's probably not about who you think it is. This song is about Jesus when He walked on water in the storm and Peter came out to him on the water but started sinking because he was afraid and started to doubt that what was happening was possible. Jesus then pulls him from out of the water. What a beautiful image.
Damn this song has gotten me through some hard times. Two years ago i would be listening to this crying in sadness, pain, hurt & agony. Today im listening to this crying, in happiness, gratefulness, and absolute peacefulness. Life is what you make it, i promise it is. I turned mine around. Sometimes its hard to believe how fast i did it, and sometimes i miss the sadness, strange i know.

This song makes me think of my boyfriend and my perspective on life. My boyfriend and I have been together for over a year but we've known each other through both of our lowest points in life. He's made me realize that through the bad, comes the good. You can't have a rainbow without a little rain. I can understand that your current love meter tops at human level if you havent experienced God's love. God's love is way bigger and it isnt in clonflict with human's love. Au contraire it gives love to another people another boost,dimension and depth because God is Love and He teaches to love each other because we all have the same image of God in us. There is a lot more to say about that but if your really interested you should try to read a little bit the Gospels and other books from the Bible, if you read it carefully with an open mind your soul will be much much richer. However christianity is a relational religion if you can call it that way , is not about reading alone , is more of personal experience with God and building that relation up with the years. Its hard to explain is more easy to experiment it by sincere will to rech Him by the means He already put at our hands. I recomend a book called "mere christianity" from C.S. Lewis . Sorry for your loss and pain. I'd like to tell you it gets better but you learn to live with it. I think mostly that has to do with the love that you feel for the person that's gone. I know my daughter, made me laugh, even when I was out of sorts, and she would want me to laugh and smile even now. I listen to a lot of music she liked and also songs like this to feel closer to her. I hope you find peace. Sometimes I still search for that .... but most of the time I smile because I have some really good memories.
I also feel the same way as you. For a moment I thought I wrote your post. Lost my daughter almost seven years ago. I also play all her music, as we both loved the same music. Use to also dance together all the time. It hasn't gotten better for me. I still miss her so very much. Her passing was unexpected, had a fall the day after Christmas and hit the back of her head. What a tragedy. To this day I hate receiving phone calls. She was my life!! Miss her terribly and that sweet smile of hers. She was so gentle and feminine. Very kindhearted. Miss her terribly, but music makes me feel like she is still with me.

I have lovely memories but I still feel the loss. It will be 10 yrs for me this year but I still have days that I cry. Not like I did the 1st 2 or 3 years but it still hurts. I think I've found God, he is always with me. Not only for 2 years since I came to study abroad, but over 20 years since I came to the world. When I looked back of my life, I realized things were all his plan. He helped me a lot although I never knew his name before. I didn't know him, but he knows me. Now, I am so grateful I can find the greatest love in the world. I pray for my family, my friends and for youuuu. We're one big family, cause we own the God father.

My condolences to both you, your grandmother, and your entire family. That is really a state of complicated grieving. Many people would break under such horrible pain. I hope in time you all find meaning in this pain and that it makes you stronger for having survived it. Everyone grieves in their own time, in their own ways - but expect that within whatever order, you will experience the 5 stages of grief - denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. That last one is a big challenge.

Storm.....so many thoughts....when you finally find what I feel, is aunconditional love, which should be the type of love that is truly rare I think and, maybe if we are lucky, maybe we might find one maybe two in our lifetimes...it's so much more than I can put in words completely but the bond between two unconditionals/it's maybe as if no matter where they lay their head would be home for you, n, your a no matter what in their eyes, walk beside an never in front unless to protect. Even when the rest of the world is convinced and the odds are stacked, no matter what.....n I know some will say, what about cheating or unlawful activity.....with a unconditional the spiritual passion an growth.
