Man, Necropolis is by far my favorite town, and Thant is my favorite hero for it too. - With his Animate Dead specialization, and starting with it early, you can easily take some close fights and put your power stack at risk, but then come out with zero losses at the end for just a spell cast.

Great stuff as always! Even though you take some minor missteps here and there, I'm still amazed how well you track everything across so many fronts.
As promised on the last episode I dug out my old physical copy of Heroes 3 Complete (!) and after a bit of fiddling (ripping isos on a super old laptop...) I got it all set up with the HD mod and everything and played all weekend. Man it was so good! I'm playing through Gem's Shadow of Death campaign because I don't remember ever finishing those. The nice thing with those is I can take what I've learned from you and then, right before the end, loop back around and grab all the skills, spells, and stats to my perfectionist heart's content before moving on to the next map. Well, almost. The scenario I just finished had limited mage guilds to level 3...but I had Solmyr. I very nearly considered trying to level up an Expert Scholar to transfer Chain Lightning to Gem and Clancy (the two fixed heroes that transfer to the next map), but I didn't have anyone even at Advanced Scholar, so who knows how long that would have taken! 🤣
Nice episode as always! Your skeleton army is really taking shape. Looking forward to seeing what it's capable of! Btw, congratulations on winning the castle battle without losing any skellies ;)

@36:05 I didn't realize that the moat will still take its hit if you kill the last enemy while in the moat. That could be an important mechanic to remember in a tight fight. Thanks for the video, again. This is an amazing challenge to watch!

I can't make heads or tails of what Purple was doing. I was _convinced_ they had a single base left, purely based on the 1-2-3-4 rankings and the fact you had four bases. Bizarre stuff…
One question: do you have Dimension Door? I was playing the second campaign mission of _Heroes I,_ and Dimension Door was absolutely _indispensable_ for chasing down sneaky heroes.
_Granted, in_ Heroes I, _you get_ uses _of spells based on Knowledge as opposed to_ Spell Points… _which_ bites _at low levels, but becomes pretty useful at really high levels._
Usually norovos rule is he needs to see an opponent use town portal fly or dimension door before he is allowed to use any of them

Hey man, finally watched your Maelstrom playthrough and motivaterd me again to play some HotA. I played over the holidays the Daggerwin Valley map (Huge) and enjoyed it a lot. It took me a while because its a really big map, but I would love to see you play this map. Maybe you enjoy it as much as I did.

The only thing you really should have done in this kind of run was to build up each mage guild to its top level (whether 3, 4, or 5) as soon as you decided that gold and resource materials were no longer of much import--which was pretty much after month 1 or 2. :) You would have easily had TP and DimDoor far sooner, and MS, CL, and AD as well (most likely). Sure, sometimes ya get ZILCH, but when you've claimed at least 3-6 castles and you no longer have any gold deficits, it's a GREAT bet to trade resources for crafting final mage guilds.
Just FYI, in the last episode you mentioned that you're protected by the one-way monolith pattern. Actually in random maps it spreads them in two pairs of the same one-ways. You're not as protected as you think you are. Stick a side hero on the exit and go through the entrance. You'll see what I mean.

Hey guys how can i make the graphics better but still keep the image decently sized bcs when im playing in hota if i increase the resolution to lets say 1920x1080 the image becomes really small
play 1180x664 homie, thats the ideal resolution, the one norovo uses as well i think
Damn, that navigation vs scholar is a real bummer. Water magic would've been very nice for the 3 mana go over the walls teleport spell. And mass forgetfulness. And cheaper clone. Oh well
I think HotA disables the Navigation skill when you create a map with no water, which is such an appreciated feature. Shame he was playing in Shadow of Death 😅
Hi, can someone please tell me what mod it is that gives you those quality of life upgrades like quick splitting units into stacks of 1, starting the battle straight away without having to wait for the intro music to finish, having the option to manually replay auto-resolved battles etc?

No, not yet
The only weakness in this game is the tendency towards repetition. Animate dead repetition or Armageddon plus black dragons repitition. It is too advantageous to lose no troops so the troop types and strategies that give you that tend to be favoured the most.

Hi, How do you play all these other maps? I have mainly just played the campaign and i have bought the HD version on steam, but is there any other versions avaliable?
The HD version on steam has some issues sadly and is lacking the expansions. I think most people would recommend the GoG version with the HD Mod from Nexusmods and then if you want what the community has been up to all these years I'd get the Horn of Abyss mod too.
Can I make a suggestion for your next series, ranged troops only.
But only those which do NOT have "No melee penalty". Otherwise it will be an almost normal tower or dungeon play.

Turn order in fights is a feature that was added in the HD mod!

Ok , I know now ; for some reason when I change Source size (first thing bugged but I will get used for it) the option is completely disabled and only solution is hitting the Default button and never touch that option again 😅 anyway thanks for replying

They totally allow for that!
Actually, it doesn't really look like that's the case, there was at least on subterranean gate and a monolith right there.
Question for anybody: do you think that having an option to not generate monoliths would be good ? I feel like they're overused in random maps and I feel like I've been more annoyed by them lately.
I believe you can create a template in the Map editor and disable monoliths completely, but that would be in the HotA expansion. I've never used the Map editor for HoMM3 so I don't know for sure if it's possible!

Maaan. Finding this channel has unlocked so many memories. You got recommended after I watched a spiffing brit video on heroes hour.
I would play hours of the Homm3 demo with my father back in thr day. I'd never have imagined that there was still a vibrant mod and YT scene for it.
I think I may just infact go and do what 13 year old me never did and purchase a copy.
Sir, I've never understood why you spend so much GOLD on so many HEROES that seem to do nothing.
Surely the money is better spent on buildings and / or creatures? But I must have it all WRONG, because I can't play on higher difficulty level.
I also never use the unit spread or unit speed tactics. Unknown to me.

It's a bit of a balancing act. On this playthrough I can only recruit skeletons so no point saving gold for units and buildings
