    We are in the middle of buying a new washer right now and this video shows exactly how great the old machines used to be. Powerhouse work horses!!!! Now they are all 4 to 5 year lifecycle before you have to buy a new one..... Sucks!

    All this talk of gentle...gentle...gentle..sometimes you have clothes that are very dirty and better made like denim which need a heavy duty wash action like the washer on the left.
    People need to remember that when that old Hotpoint was made there were still a lot of manufacturing jobs in this country and many people worked labor jobs.
    Today's washers might be fine for some hipster yuppies but these correctly made classic washers were meant to get dirty clothes clean period.
    Look at the control panel between the two. The classic Hotpoint has the Heavy Duty designation while the newer model does not.
    Tells you all you need to know right there

    I had one of those old Hotpoints once. It was great until the agitator broke away from the shaft, couldn't find a replacement agitator. But my only complaint with it was there was no way to level it and what they had suspending the tub was almost nothing. No matter what you did it was out of balance. It would spin and shake the entire house, dance all over the floor and knock the dryer around.

    I have one of those ew fangled H.E. maytag washers. 4 years old.
    It's a love-hate relationship. There are things I truly hate about it, such as I hate the door lock well it's a lid lock because it's a top load. If you pause the machine and any mechanical part of the machine is in operation the lid will not unlock until every single part has completely stopped moving and sometimes that can take two to three minutes which is really frustrating when all you have to do is throw in that Rogue sock you found behind your bed. Another thing I really don't like about it is because it's a so-called smart washer it will agitate until it senses that the clothes are clean. So one load of laundry might take 20 minutes to wash, another load and seriously I have had that machine take an hour and a half to wash a load of assorted light blankets and towels. It senses how dirty the clothes are and washes according to that. Now on the plus side. It does clean the clothes really well. That's about the only good thing I can say for this washer. My clothes and most of the time my blankets and towels do come out very clean. The spin cycle does not extract water out of heavy items as well so I normally will open the lid rearrange the clothes and move the knob to drain and spin and run it on another spin cycle. If I had my choice I would rather have one of these washers that is featured in this video. A good old-fashioned full of water good agitation , hard spinning washer that is mechanical and not electronic and computerized. You know I say this on other posts throughout TH-cam the government just ruins everything it gets its hands on. Washers, toilets, thank goodness the regulations on light bulbs was reversed and we can have incandescent again. Just ridiculous I don't need the government to tell me what kind of products I can have. If anyone is stupid enough to stick their hand in a wash machine while it is agitating or spinning then they kind of get what they deserve. Who's with me?

  • @JayBuccola
    @JayBuccola 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Picked up an old one today. I see no reason to purchase a new age washer ever again. The old one here uses $20 more energy a year. The new one would have to last 20 years to justify it's purchase over the old one, regardless of how well either of them wash.

      You should see the 2021 crap.
      These new ones won't even let you have enough water to cover the clothes and the lid locks so you can't look in to check on your soap or add an item without pushing a pause button
      My neighbor has to unplug hers because the computer will start it up out of the blue during the night like the stupid washer is possessed. Refuse to buy new. Spend a 1000.00 if you have to rebuilding the old ones. We need to raiseHell with GE, Hot Point, whirlpool whoever. It is ridiculous how far down the crap hole they have gone.
      I replaced my old 80s GE 4 weeks ago with a new GE.
      There is no comparison.
      With the new one you can still smell perspiration after you wash them. They try so hard to be communist with the water allowed that you can not see the water in the wash and your clothes stink after washing. It doesn't get them clean. These 2021 models are💩

    The 1980 washer is doing a much better job a washing and getting the clothes clean than the 2008 washer... The clothes are barley moving, the agitation is weak... The progress on washing machines has been the WORST!!! The new ones are Crap and don't get your clothes clean in only two cups of water, and that take to long.. I have a few friend that bought refurbished/rebuilt conventional top load center post agitator washing machines instead of the terrible H E WASHERS!!! To bad progress took a turn for the worst on modern washing machines..

  • @gamersanonymous4me131
    @gamersanonymous4me131 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The old one has a delicate setting (which is not being used for this presentation) where it will use less agitation (for clothing not heavily soiled or subject to tearing). So...you can use it less vigously and still get lightly soiled clothing cleaned. The new one has no heavy agitation ability so it cannot clean heavily soiled clothing and it uses less water on every load, and lets face it the more water used the cleaner the clothes.
    It is more environmental to use less water but... is putting a washer in the landfill every 5-7 years environmental? NOPE it just mental and greedy.
