Plus, Merlin was about to sacrifice himself for Arthur but stopped by the Cailleach during this, Lancelot was already walking towards the veil. And finally, the most obvious one. Lancelot’s way of looking at Merlin so passionately. 😍😍
Arthur had so many scenes with Merlin over the course of five seasons there is no surprise they got along well and both actors obviously enjoyed working with the other. Lancelot otoh had just a few eps to show us what kind of guy he is but he made good use of it. if this edit wanted to sell us the idea of him being the ideal partner for Merlin then congratulations - it worked! Merlin is so popular everyone would want him given half a chance. it seems however, he made up his mind early and the lucky bastard in question knew it and made anyone else back off.^^

Them with this song hits extra hard because I'm convinced that Lancelot knew that Arthur was Merlins destiny, the man he'd willingly dedicated his whole life and purpose to, and he knew exactly that he could never take his place, and to ensure that Merlin and Arthur could stay together and to save Merlin, he sacrificed himself. Merlin did love him too, and the fact that he could never have Arthur, as well as Lancelot could've never had Gwen, led to the beautiful intimate relationship he had with Lancelot. I'm convinced that he was Merlins first love, his first teenage crush, and later their bond only grew stronger, given the fact that he could unapologetically be his entire self around Lance and didn't have to hide who he was. "Lancelot needed you and you needed Lancelot. Your destinies were entwined." (Gaius to Merlin while they were watching Lancelots departure in S1 E4) I personally believe that thats way more intimate than "You're like two sides of the same coin" aka whats said about Arthur and Merlins relationship in the show. I really need more people to get into the Mercelot side of this fandom, there are not enough fics and edits of them 😭💔
Merlin always felt so at ease with Lancelot. the only person apart from his mother and Gaius knowing about his secret and allowed to survive the episode (and some more). Colin is such a great actor making us see the difference in his demeanor compared to all other characters (including Arthur) very clearly. 😙
