This is music from my father and mother's generation; they both would have been 100 this year (2023). Miss them so very much, especially during the holidays. I remember as a little boy of 5, back in 1965, listening to music like this, sitting at the kitchen table, making play-doe figures while mom was in the kitchen cooking dinner; humming and swaying on the dance floor of her imagination. We had albums and albums of this type of beautiful music that my mother would play throughout the day. Such evocative music. Though those days are long gone, the beautiful memories of her are brought back as I listen to this fabulous collection. Thanks for the memories.

My parents bought their first Readers Digest set in 1965. I have found many others over the years in thrift stores. My mother and I are enjoying this beautiful music this evening. She is now 101-years-old.

Nowadays, TV shows only war and dark stories. I don't see a bright future all over the world. The 1970s was a time of miracles.
They need a radio station like this on the air again. All grown up now I've learned all the songs and some of the lyrics now. As our generation reflects back...a call for it exists. Thanks for posting this.

There are a lot of us old timers still kicking around who remember, with fondness, the great music with which we grew up. I'm 80 now, and I'm grateful that I can listen to all the wonderful music of my youth on my cellphone. There is something to be said for this modern technology. It's unfortunate that some people use it for evil purposes. I wonder if the young of today will go around humming, whistling or singing rap and hip hop when they reach old age; not many I expect. The only decent music venue today is Country music, IMO. Of course classical music is offered as well on a few FM radio stations, which is good.

My grandfather used to have a lot of Reader's Digest records when I was a kid in the 80s. He'd play them up loud while he gardened, and I'd be soooooo bored, hating the music. But I wonder if the familiarity of them is why I can enjoy this so much, at 50. This one actually looks very familiar, so I can't help but think I heard these actual songs while staying at his house. Youth really is wasted on the young - it's gorgeous music!
I scrolled up, and the familiarity of the album cover at his house smacked me. It must have been out a lot (being played) for that to be the case. I love that I can understand Pa a little better. No wonder he was so disgusted when I played a Violet Femmes tape, in the car with him, when I was 15.

Wonderful music, I read all of the great memories. My dad (born in 1929) loved music, and I inherited that love. Two favorite memories are going with him in the 60s to see Duke Ellington and his Band, and Harry James. I still have my Reader’s Digest Song Books (for piano) from back then too!

I remember hearing this kind of music in the old movies I grew up watching on TV in the 60s and 70s. Then I found out that you could buy this music on LPs and tapes. It was usually performed by 101 Strings, and I loved it. I have several albums.

I hear this stuff and I'm back in my childhood living rooms playing on the floor in front of a giant Magnavox console stereo. My mother and my mom's family are there. My brother was too. Now, all I'm left with is memories, and this wonderful music that I'll always remember. Thank you GLMGLM.

Brings back my childhood and listening to these with my mom. Coming home with this music playing mom cooking, the sound and wonderful memories! I grew up in the 50’s and 60’s wonderful time of family, school, dancing, the drive threw at the DQ. When we’re young can’t wait to grow up then we are old hopefully with awesome memories? Music always speaks to the heart and soul.

And...we walked the little streets..and looking around while ..there was no other choice..escaping that feeling..and shy..and soon something strange like the magic happened..all the lamps started vast such intriguing lights smoothe and pleasent..and the old cube rocky ground turned into marble..and the little orchestra played some enchanted melody as we passed by old city restaurant..under the dozen of colonnade..and as we reached the big disco club..like all the crowd became in orders of cheery people ..and there was nobody at the entrance..but too Gentlemen saying 'Good evening'..I turned to see her face..it looked at the moment such familiar..'have..we met...before...we met...?'..I asked watching her beautiful facelines..' no..we havnt..before yesterday..?no I'm sure..I should've known that..'..We spent an hour or a bit more than..dancing slow and talking a little while we're siting..but the music was loud..As we walked out in the kind of the race garden ..she asked me..'what is the name of that tree..we passed by towards the exile on the street...An old beautiful tree..and I supposed ..said something..watching it all in blossom..and the unknown flowers on it..We turned left and around..So many guys coming there..the girls all round the world..She...was the most beautiful..I was sure ..visiting that place 7 evenings..Our steps seemed idle ..as we walked downhill street..and the feelings like the most beautiful sky in the morning..she touched my forearm ..holded a little hust to keep her balance..I holded her gently..her hand on another side..I felt..romanthic..though my heart beated irregularly strong..It seemed we didnt know where are we going..it was 1:00..when we heard the tower bells..As it echoes still sounded Holy..we said no nothing while passed by an old winery..tall houses..walking the little streets..It was almost impossible for both of us to say anything as we understood we were alone..under the moonlight hid behind the roofs and the blinding lamps..We stood a few steps from on romantic street lamp..There was no other life..other time..other desire..I saw in her deep eyes devotion of all the world..'dont say its..over..'..she didnt say..but I recognized the meaning of that calm frozen shine over such beauty..I just couldnt stop watching..And then for the first time in my life I saw him..leaned by the wall behind her a bit aside..St Valentine..He took my hand ..my right palm and slow raised up a little over her shiny blonde hair..and put it above..fo a second..and then disappeared..I ..it shakened my soul..he wanted me baptize her with my love..I touched her hair..light like unreal..put down my palm down her neck..We came closer ..God knows how difficult.. or..natural..An old mandarin appeared aside..'if you want her to miss you ..kiss her ..twice..if you want her to want you kiss her once..'..I leaned my lips over her..stayed like that..like we felt the taste of same prior...I.....kissed ..her ...a lot.....
