    Amigo, thank you for sharing this with us all.
    By the way, how did you get both polarities -- is it a reversal of the material which comprises the moving belt?
    Another nifty thing to explore is the effect of electrostatic polarity upon the surface of water. Using wires connected to your generators, you might note as I have that one polarity will pull the surface of the water up towards the wire in an antigravity manner. The other will push into and displace the surface of the water, leaving an indentation. A whole realm of new possibilities opens up with this.

      To reverse the polarity, you can use the same belt material but you must reverse the top and bottom pulley materials.

    You have nice designs shown in your video's.
    Also learned something new about the electrostatic induction which I should have known already(especialy due to a theory I once wrote which also includes a effect like that), it's just such a thing you won't think of until you do think obout it(such a thing you see and kind of understand without noticing).

    How does the electrostatic motor work, is it connected to earth so that the spheres change charges or does the mere presence of the two fields induce spinning?

    Excellent video, especially the clear presentation. Everything makes sense for me except around the 2m mark, why does the neg charge cause a blink in the detector but the pos does not? It seems your body can take on more total neg charge than it can pos charge?..... right?

    What's making one positive and the other negative. Why arnt they both positive?

    • @vineethvenugopal8613
      @vineethvenugopal8613 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is because of the roller materials and the way we keep them. The electrostatic charge produced as a result of friction depends on the nature of materials. Some materials acquire positive charge and some acquire negative charge. In the 1st one, the top roller is nylon and the bottom roller is silicone . In the second one, it is the exact opposite. That's why they are opposite in charge.

    This is cool!
    If we truly wanted to validate which was an excess of electrons and which was a deficiency, we could watch the direction of flow with a large enough gap and high speed film.
    Excess electricons should cause a spark to jump from the contact to your hand (if you're earth/ground) and from your hand to the contact, if there's a deficiency.

    Cool video. Very interesting. I have already built a Van-der-Graaf generator with pvc and glass rollers and a steel ball from the garden market. It could build up way higher voltages than with the coke can, that I was using before. I am still loosing charges at the edge, where I have cut the ball open, but I think, I have found a solution for that. I need to round that edge. BTW, what is that charge indicator?

      @@Alpha_Gadgets-360 it all depends on which materials you can get. There are many ways to built a van de Graaff generator. As a glass roller, I have used the glass from a fuse, that I have put on an M3 threaded rod. I used a 5cm water pipe as a column and a ball pen refill and a pvc sticky tape. The convexity (thick in the middle, thin at the ends) of the driving axis isa key feature, that keeps the rubber band in the middle. YT is full of tutorials, I think.
      Humidity is not your friend. I am using a latex band and it seems, that it absorbs moisture. And that prevents the generator from working. It is possible to dry the band with a hair dryer.
      It is also helpful to watch the generator in the dark. You can see, if/where the charges escape. Sharp edges are the problem. That is, where the electrical field is strongest.
      If it is your school project, you should make sure, that you have understood how the generator works. Triboelectric effect is the keyword. You have two different roller pairs: pvc/latex (bottom) and glass/latex (top). As charge collectors, I have used the „hair“ of a brass brush. It can also be wire strands from a cable. You want it to have many points, because the electric field is strongest on a pointy surface. This way, the charges will jump to the collector. The collectors should be very close to the rubber belt, but not touching.

      i'm not sure bcs the movements were confusing at some point but the idea is apparently that if you get a can close to a charged pole without sparking, it charges with the opposite polarity, he touches the free can to provide a bigger path to the ambient so it charges kinda like a capacitor... not sure, but it seems

    • @haydenwhitbread724
      @haydenwhitbread724 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Positive can has a lack of electrons. Extra electrons make their way into the green can since they all want to get over to the red can (from air and other surfaces it touches. If there is no discharge, green becomes negatively charged due to the extra electrons.

    • @haydenwhitbread724
      @haydenwhitbread724 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you see the arc, that pent up electric charge (extra electrons) is free to move to the red can and the red cans "thirst" is mostly satisfied but the motor in the van de graaff rubs two materials that continuously removes electrons from the red can and it becomes highly positively charged again.
