I remember camping at Edisto with my grandparent's back in the 1970's and my favorite spot was Jeremy's inlet. Lots of porpoises swimming through there, I was always disappointed that they weren't dolphins. Then as an adult I realize how rare the porpoises are. I rented a house at Edisto about 5 years ago, its changed so much. It's really lost it's charm as its crowded and overbuilt now. They even put fresh sand on the beach which covers up all the great fossils you could once find. My grandmother found a Mastadon tooth on the beach after a hurricane and donated it to a South Carolina natual history museum that Rudy Mankee worked at. And I also remember all these broken pieces of blue and white china from some ship that went down around there. Really great memories, I feel lucky to have seen it that way.
I appreciate you sharing your Edisto memories. One of the best things that I like about Edisto is that it is so less crowded than places like Myrtle Beach or Hilton Head.
