Bonus tip, guys! If you're planning to get one, consider buying the 82mm size and get some step up rings so you can use that one filter for ALL your lenses. Saves you a bunch of money 💥😎 Thanks for watching!

Cool review ! I already own a PMVND (non mist), a Tiffen BPM and a Cinebloom... but I’m a sucker for good quality ND and diffusion, I think a good combined VND/Mist for not too expensive is actually pretty cool and useful, I will look into that, I like that those are quite soft and not too « in your face » diffusion. Thanks mate, the comparisons were very informative.
Thanks, Joris--really helpful video explaining the filters and I really appreciate the clear advice at the end: "that's the one to buy first." That's exactly what I needed to know.
I lowered the sharpness all the way down from your previous recommendations and it looks awesome for my short film(very cinematic)! A mist filter looks like an interesting option for the next one :) Thanks for the awesome comparison 💪
Hi Joris, will you be able to show us the difference between the Freewell VND X Mist filter and a hair spray on the UV filter effect? Will it be much of a difference? I cannot afford to buy these filters from overseas cos it simply cost just too much so I am using the hair spray filter only for most of my shots. I did purchase online from the Chinese company a mist filter but it is way too blur for any of my scenes. I just couldn't get a hold of which mode should I use with filters... I downloaded the CineStyle but the filter just added more blurriness to my M50... And would you be kind enough to show us what settings to use with these filters? Thank you..
excellent video!!! thanks so much for explaining this, I just got the the Sony 16-35pz and the 72mm Freewell is what I am going with because the Peter McKinnon doesn't come in 72
Hi Joris Did you notice any difference in diffusion strength between the 2-5 and 6-9? One TH-camr mentioned they noticed a difference in quality. Thanks.
Still not sold on the idea of combining VND and mist into a single filter. I guess it’s a little bit more convenient during the daytime, but for me a big part of the mist filter’s appeal is blooming lights in dark environments. Being stuck with 2 stops of ND is the last thing I want in that scenario.
You’re totally right. It all depends on your shooting style and what you need/want. I’ll be using these instead of a regular ND during the day until sunset. I like the subtle look. Bit yeah, after dark it doesn’t make sense indeed. I Also, want people planning to get the PMVND Mist to know that there’s a cheaper alternative that’s high quality 🤷🏻♂️😊 Anyway, thanks for the input and for watching. 💯
@@JorisHermans Great review and I suspect a great product for someone who does want the two combined. I got Freewell’s “normal” VND filters last year and they’re terrific. Dank je!
If you use a Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 lens and stack a black pro mist and a variable ND is will vignette in the corners, Also, you will get even more contrast loss with a stacked mist and VND filter as you would be shooting through 3 pieces of glass. So yes, the combo filter has its place in the kit. Cheers.
Im about to get this Freewell VND + Mist for wedding video. Wondering if lowlight during reception, If I take of the filter due to the VND make footage darker then Im not able to have Glow Effect as well. Normally will people use Mist Filter during the lowlight like reception ? Thanks
Yes, you could totally use a mist filter during low light because it makes all the lights glow beautifully. But in that case, maybe it's better to use a mist filter without ND like the Tiffen Black Pro Mist filters...
Hey Joris! When using the tiffen bpm with the nd, which nd filter do you use? I mean, I do have a freewell nd 2-5 and I wonder if I could just buy the tiffen bpm 1/8 and use it together with my freewell?
Hi, I have just purchased Freewell VND 2-5 stops, but actually standard (not mist) version. Is it also by mist, that it has hard stops at the ends only? I was expecting a gentle "click" locking on each step...
Thanks for the comparison! I am quite torn between the PMK version and the Freewell version. It seems like the Freewell is a great bang for your buck, but the mist effect of the PMK looks more subtle and less extreme, which would make it more of an all-day every-day solution. I don't have a mist or a nd filter yet, so that's why I was thinking of starting with the PMK... Such a hard decision
Can you wait for another two weeks before deciding? I'm testing something new. Can't say much about it right now but check my channel for it on June 30 🤐😄
@@JorisHermans Thanks for getting back to me! I definately want to use a vnd mist filter while on vacation in the middle of July. So... waiting might be possible, but short of time. So looking forward to your experimentation.
I don't think so. I think if you feel like that when using the tiffen / normal nd combo, you'll feel the same using this one. The mist effect is pretty strong...
Hi I've bought the Freweel VND filter and the mist effects is really strong. I also have Lockcircle Primecircle Black Mist 1/4 and Frewell is like 50% more diffused. Is it normal?
La teinte verte est très désirée sur la peau en cinématographie... Super test en tout cas je suis convaincu moi qui avait déjà le freewell vnd 2-5 top top
Awesome and helpful video mate! I got one question that no one answers me. Do I put the Pro Mist Filter first and than the ND Filter or the otherway around? It would mean a lot if you could answer me, thanks :)
I've always been told first mist filter and then ND. But I've never tried it the other way round so I have no idea if the effect would be any different. Would be an interesting video to make... 🤔😄💥
Salut Joris ! Je découvre ta (très bonne) chaîne et cette vidéo qui m'a aidé à faire mon choix. Je dois filmer un mariage cet été dont une partie en plein milieu de la journée, penses-tu que le 2-5 soit suffisant ? Merci d'avance ! Un compatriote belge ;)
Hey Simon! Gonna do this in English as I speak Dutch. 😉 I do understand French but it's writing and speaking is a whole other story 😅 Difficult to say here in Belgium... I use the 2 - 5 most of the time during the day. The 6 - 9 only when it's super sunny. But it also kind of depends on what aperture you like to use and if you shoot at 60fps with a shutter speed of 1/120... 🤔 I realize that I'm probably confusing you more now but if it were up to me to buy just one, I would start with the 2 -5. Also remember that there's a color shift but it's easy to correct. There are a lot of videos showing you how. Hope it helps! 🙏🏻💥
