Torrance, CA is where I was born, grew up and my mom still lives there. I spend Saturday with her every other weekend and I laughed when you said the kaki was from there because yesterday.....I also brought home a tray of kaki.....from Torrance, CA!!! haha I like it crunchy, so I'm eating mine before they get soft! =)

I like your Okaasan reply. My obachan would say if it tastes good or not. I think today the style of okazuya is different. I grew up with the issei and 2nd generation Japanese and Okinawans and let me tell you those obachans can cook. My obachans sushi and andagi was a treat when she use to visit us.

Your so right about Okazuya being so expensive these days! Used to love to go to Honda’s delicatessen back in the day in Liliha! So ono! Now and then since the price went up is still good as a delicious meal to enjoy ❤️really love this video with your mom being the star of the show 🙂

I hope when you are elderly your family will take such good care of you. You are certainly setting a fine example! Take care and have a good week.

Oh interesting, guess because we lived out in the countryside we never had an okazuya when I was growing up. Nice to see what kinds of items they sell but sorry that the food was only maamaa Lol. My mom also grows both Fuyu and Hachiya persimmons. We had a lot of Fuyu ( more still on the tree) but very little Hachiya so we didn’t make much hoshigaki this year. Thanks for sharing! Good to see your okaasama smiling!

This video was absolutely delightful, especially hearing your okaasama’s honest reviews. My mother is exactly the same. And I’m so happy that your okaasama has been looking so genki lately.
Funny coincidence, my mother's maiden name is Fukuya. And she also lives in Southern California and grows kaki. But the birds have been pretty greedy lately, so she doesn’t have very abundant harvests now.
Sending love and hugs to you and your okaasama.

My fave is the green with white bean mochi! As your mom says about the cornbeef hash, she can make tastier hash! Lol, I bet I could too! I actually made some last week. The mochiko chicken was expensive! Not worth it if it's ma ma! Now you know, you do have to try it that least once. Your Okasama is looking good and at least she wants to participate. 💜🙏💜🙏

It’s against state law to mail fruits and vegetables to & from Hawaii. People can decimate our crops if there’s any bugs inside of the produce.

Nandemo mah-mah, ne! Your okasama is too kawaii! I’m with you sister! I can only eat mochi grilled, dipped in shoyu, and wrapped in nori. I’m so sorry that your food was just mah-mah! Especially, with all of the money you spent. The mochiko nori wrapper chicken looked pretty yummy to me. I had to giggle, when you kept giving your okasama so much food! Her reaction was priceless! ☺️
Yes, there are plenty kaki trees all over Southern California . Both Fuyu and Hachiya, are the two varieties around where I live. My okasama had an amazing Fuyu kaki tree. I’m so happy that your neighbors’ family gifted you with some kaki from Torrance. Thank you for sharing your okasama and your meal with us! Continued prayers for your mama! 🙏♥️🙏

My California relatives used to send us dried kaki which I love. I just brought back a big bag from Tokyo--not the best grade but still yummy. Okazuya food is so expensive. Waimalu Kabuki used to have oishii food but haven't been there in ages. Our favorite used to be Sakura in Aiea but alas they closed up. Love your food reviews with your mom!

    Hi there,how lovely getting gifts
I still confused between Persimmon and Fuji 🗻 fruit, one is firm and one is soft and messy. Years ago my sister brought back another variety from Queensland that had slight chocolate 🍫 flavour. That food looked 😋, but I have to be careful when I visit next year as your $30 equates to $40 in Australia
Best wishes to you and your mamma cheers 🍻

look like blanched/boiled choi sum ?okazu foods are getting more $$$, remember one post earlier this year on Facebook of a order from Mitsuba Delicatessen and was over $11.00. People (who have not purchased these items in a while) were saying the buyer was 'getting ripped off'. Not the case...

Hawaii-style okazuya is a dying art... no one place does it well, to get tasty and good priced okazu you need to go to multiple places depending what items you're seeking... Fukuya is overrated and very expensive
