    I will have to disagree with you in the use of the paper towel at the beginning. The purpose of using a micro-fiber cloth is to prevent scratching the guitar. A common paper towel is just too harsh on the guitar.
    The perfect analogy would be to use a newspaper first and then a nice quilted toiled paper....

    I have watched a few of theses cleaning guitar videos your the only one that suggests it is a good idea to use water on your instrument everyone else says that a hard 8% moisture content is needed for great tone and that using water to clean it could compromise the moisture percentage causing micro cracks to form and cause problems in the future also for the fret board they use a bees wax baced oil for moisture barrier and to keep it form getting as dirty as fast so I have 2 questions:
    1 why do you recommend using water
    2 how often should it be cleaned

    I use orange oil because wills easy guitar reccomended it, but then i watched scott groves videos and he says theres no need to oil you fingerboard its complete BS but then I another video from Kiesel guitars says clean it with steel wool, then another guy whos a proffessional luthier for 40 years uses Pledge. Another guy says True Oil and Gun wax. And then theres the lemon oil lovers oh and the lighter fluid people. AND NOW THIS F ONE stuff which claims to have all natural but dont list any of the actuall ingredients they use in there mix. WHO THE FUCK KNOWS how to clean your guitar fret board. Just pick one and cross your fingers.

    • @dlapp14
      @dlapp14 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Keep steel wool AWAY from your guitar. Steel wool sheds like mad, and the pickups are magnets. They pick that shit up like crazy. Figure some other way out to do it, don't use steel wool.

    Are there any precautions regarding the presence of a trem?

    • @MusicisWin
      @MusicisWin  8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Not with the products in the video. Just be sure to apply the cleaner directly to a cloth so you can control where it goes instead of spraying it directly on the body where it might be hard to wipe it clean, e.g. your trem

    • @RanterInShades
      @RanterInShades 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Music is Win I've always been scared to take off all the strings at once since it fucked up the trem, and thus my fretboard is never as clean as it should be.

    I use my guitar as a canoe paddle.
    This way I have fun on the lake and when I am done I have a nice clean guitar.
    Sand blasting works pretty good too.
    If you want to save money with the sand blasting method then do what many guitar cleaning experts recommend.
    Tie your guitar to the bumper of your Lamborghini and drag it behind you on the beach for a few miles.
    It's O.K. to drive out into the water as it won't do either the car of the guitar any harm.

    • @calebo29536
      @calebo29536 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hermodice112 it really depends how much you play, if you play a lot then I would suggest changing your strings every month but if you don’t play as much I would suggest once every 3 months. And if you want to you can clean the body of your guitar every time you change strings or even more often if you wish, and as for the fretboard you really only need to condition it once or twice every year, hope this helps.

    Hi, thanks for these advices. Could you also explain how to deal with mildew spots on fabric (synthetic fiber actually) sheath? I've bought my guitar like a month ago and I could see even though the sheath was brand new (also the guitar was) and the shop looked a very tidy and dry place, now I can see the spots are multiplying and spreading all over the sheath. I don't know if sheath is the right word, but I'm talking about those soft cases or fabric cases for guitars. I'm afraid of using an improper chemical and damage either the sheath or even worse, the guitar itself. I live in a place with high levels of humidity, so I'm aware that's part of the problem too, but it's a reality in the whole city, so moving to another house is not a solution now. I already asked to a dry cleaner store and they would do the job, but of course I would have to do that almost every month, which is not only expensive but time consuming too. So I hope you could give me some advice on this. Thank you.

    linseed oil is much cheaper, for the fretboard. anything that says it's guitar specific will be more expensive.

    • @MusicisWin
      @MusicisWin  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just googled linseed oil and it seems to be more expensive than F One ;) Also, linseed oil is a yellowing oil which can tarnish your fretboard's color. So... go with F One Oil

    • @bobdolendeath7776
      @bobdolendeath7776 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      1 quart (32 fl oz.) of boiled linseed oil will run you $8 at Lowes, or Ace, or whatever hardware store; 2 fl oz. of F-One will run you the same, around $8. Just trying to let people know there is a cheaper alternative.
      This is what I was taught as a Luthier's apprentice:
      Tape off sound hole (if cleaning an Acoustic)
      Lightly scour frets and fretboard with 0000 steel wool.
      Brush away dust and fines.
      Apply oil sparingly.
      Don't use more than what soaks into a paper towel in 1-2 seconds.
      Wipe all the excess off.
      Then wipe a few more times.
      Don't do it more than 1/year.
      I believe your method might be better if you're cleaning more often, but in any case keep jammin and putting out these vids.

    I don't have a guitar neck holder so I just place it on my bed; I use furniture cedar oil that is pretty much equivalent to regular lemon oil or "guitar" oil but cheaper; I don't polish my guitars because this way I get out the "oh scratches, gotta polish it" loop.

    That Dunlop 65 is fest guitar polish I’ve bought to try and I used just a few sprays and next thing I knew when I went to play guitar the next day my forearm got like swollen hives so I’m assuming maybe I should wipe it off again with a water towel but then I’m wondering does that take the polish right back off n defeat even applying it? Also does anyone know if it is suffice for the neck I saw he used something else for the neck. I have heard that lemon oil being gold or a myth and that it’s actually bad. Also I’d like to know how to make the back of the neck slick so I can move around easy sometimes my hand gets stuck on the next when I try to move quickly

    I just bought a used guitar from someone and it is SUPER dusty. Any part that has open space has dust in it..I think I might have to actually take it apart to clean out the dust except I’m a total noob. This is my first electric guitar lol

    Protip: use a credit card to scrape of some dirt from the fretboard prior to applying the oil. It makes the whole process a lot smoother!

      metalheadblues use a fine grit sandpaper. Upwards of 1000. Just make sure you put masking tape on your fretboard to avoid scratching it.

    Definitely don’t use paper towel on the body, use it on the fretboard when you lube it. Just get two micro fibers for the body- a dirty and clean wipe

    Ima buy a cheap BC RICH off of used guitar center store, then clean it up, get new strings, and possibly new pickups.
