  • In this First Episode of our new series Hitler’s Invasion of the West, ‘The Fallen Fort’ sees the team journeying from the UK and heading deep into Belgium to Fort Eben Emael. We start our day by taking a look at the Victoria Cross Action of 2nd Lt. Richard 'Dick' Annand of the Durham Light Infantry, before heading to our day’s main location towards Maastricht and Liege. Visiting the Fortress of Eben Emael, we discover all about the audacious German glider-borne assault which kick-started Hitler's assault into Western Europe on Friday 10th May 1940.
Teaming up with the various Tourism Boards and the EuroTunnel, the WW2 Nation Team hit the road again last October as we set out to explore some of the historical sites connected with Hitler’s Blitzkrieg campaign in the West during the Summer of 1940. In line with the anniversary of the offensive we will be releasing new episodes fortnightly over the course of this summer.
Special thanks to Infinite Pixel, The Map Archive, After The Battle, Pen & Sword, Fort Eben-Emael, the Tourism Boards, the EuroTunnel and many others for their kind help with this Series.
