Everyone needs to hear Crumb’s Black Angels performed live at least once! Took my then-70-year-old mom to hear it back in the day, she literally jumped out of her seat when the piece began. Loved the Mezhdunarodnaya Kniga trade show story too.
Great story about you and the Russkies! BTW, I checked your artist index and couldn't find Cassadesus. Have you done a video on his box? Back around 1970 my mom worked in the music department at SUNY Binghamton where Cassadesus was on the faculty. She adored him, and his wife, Gaby. Wesley
The Casadesus-box is yet another instant of: great; great; unbelieveable great; fantastic; not the best sound, but performance is great; incomparable; great; and so forth almost ad nauseam... A review of the box might be summed up in few words: it's all minimum great, some of it incomparably so (e.g. the Mozart concerto recordings with Szell)...If you don't own the box, get it while - or if, you can!
Hello Dave, maybe I overlooked it watching your Schubert series, but have you come across the Schubert Lieder with Orchestra ( the Lieder orchestrated by Reger, Brahms and Liszt with the Chamber Orchestra o. Europe and Abbado, sung by von Otter and Quasthoff) on DG? ... and if so what is your judgement?
@@DavesClassicalGuideWith such a rave review one would expect it to be in the main collection...unless the review was outsourced to one of you other splendid colleagues on CTC? If you authored the review, one might expect the cd soon to appear amongst the overflow, as for sure the urge of completism will force you to acquire the Abbado Complete on DG and Decca box, if it isn't already in your possesion, that is! 😁😁😁

I loved your Kniga karma story.

No, I didn't do that box. I should (sigh).

I earlier commented that Tal duo was incomplete. I was wrong. They are complete! (Naxos streaming didn’t include one of the volumes.)
Hi Dave, would you consider doing a talk on the best Schubert String Quartet complete cycles?
David with your Enormous cd collection do you ever hunt for 0ne you know you have somewhere 🤔 but like myself drives me crazy when I can't find it ?
Sure!

It's not in the overflow room. www.classicstoday.com/review/review-9041/?search=1
