I too fell down my staircase with my dogs, and I ended up with repair surgeries in both knees. Those surgeries weren’t too tough. Unfortunately, a couple years later I developed arthritis in both knees, and this year had both knees replaced, sequentially. Just when I was returning to work in August, I tripped in the dark in the middle of the night, and broke my shoulder. It’s a 6 month recovery, and I can’t paint or do things with my right hand. Emotionally, it’s very difficult. I have been in major surgery pain from January 2024 lasting to January-March 2025. I may never recover full function in my right arm. I just wanted to send you comfort, sympathy, and *understanding* of how hard it all is! I’m so sorry for your accidents. I hope I haven’t made you feel bad; I just want you to know there are people you don’t even know pulling for you. Ask your husband and family to step up and carry the load, big time. Say goodbye to laundry, dishes and cooking. Silver lining. Good luck! ❤
Awww… nooooo. Take a deep breath when things feel overwhelming and know that we’re here for you. Glad you have your creativity to distract you! Take good care!
That painting of the cat and pumpkin was so 3D looking that I thought you were working with some little pumpkin gourds on a shelf at first!! 😯 That elk is awesome!! 👍 Those Art Therapy cards look great!! 🥰 I have started watching a channel that has some great art therapy ideas on it: Create & meditate with Jayme!! 😍 I'm finding the creations really fun and soothing!! ❤ Big gentle hugs, prayers, and good thoughts for your knee, shoulder, and Crohn's issues. 🙏 🫂 This has been a challenging year! 💯
Sorry about surgery, I just had joint replacement in my pinky finger. It does take a while to heal and get movement back without it hurting. Happy belated Birthday! And thanks for sharing.
I wish you a quick recovery! These art therapy cards look so interesting, I would be happy if you shared some creations on Patreon. Love the cats and the pumpkins painting!
Oh my gosh! I suffered the same injuries when I was about sixteen. Believe me, it will be so much better after your surgery! Hang in there ❤️ (and that was fifty years ago) Please don’t let horror stories affect your healing ❤ everyone is different
Sorry to hear about your health. Hope you will getting well soon and fast. Thinking of you and sending big hugs of support! Those Therapy Art cards look interesting. Thank you for sharing.
I put the art therapy deck and book you recommended in my wishlist so I can buy it around the holidays. Thanks for the video. I hope all goes well with your knee.
As someone currently studying art therapy(and finding it incredibly hard) I must confess I often wince when the term is misused on TH-cam to mean art as self soothing - art therapy is a form of actual clinical psychotherapy (with all the postgraduate qualifications, theoretical knowledge, supervision and clinical experience that entails), and not just art as relaxation (though art as relaxation is a totally legitimate thing and lovely) but something else entirely, and the misuse leads to confusion in the general public about what it is that art therapists actually do. BUT.. I have to say the card deck actually looks really good!!!! Kind of want one too, now! Hope it helps in your convalescence ❤
I am currently taking an on-line course to become a certified art therapist. Thank you for sharing your findings. I too have knee issues and had surgery to realign my knee and remove floating chunks. It took me 3 months on crutches along with physical therapy; but that was almost 40 years ago. They've come a long way since then. Best of luck to you. Don't rush things.
It sure is beautiful where you live. 🙂I’m so sorry to hear of your injury. That must have been so painful for you. Happy Birthday. 🙂🍭🎈🧁🎈🧁🎈🍭🙂 It must be nice to hear the rain when you’re in your studio while working on your art. I really like your art. Is the dog you drew your dog? I will have to check out the few things you bought on Amazon that you showed in your video. Have you ever drawn a black Labrador sitting on a porch of a log cabin? I love log cabins and Labradors. I love bunnies and moose too. 🙂🐰 🐕🦺 🫎
Amy, my heart hurts for you with all of your health issues. I hope you can see through it all by focusing on your wonderful hobby, lovely family , and beautiful property. All the best!
Amy I want to wish you a Happy Birthday 🎉 & say that my heart goes out to you with all of the stressors that keep adding up for you. I'm so sorry about that fall. And I'm sorry your knee was SO badly injured. You seem to be pretty good at self care & those art therapy resources look cool. Hey, we do what helps us. Wishing you well. See you in the next video. 🍂🍁
If you don’t already have one, a grabber or reachy stick could help you a lot. The ones that both sides of the grabbing mechanism close are much better than the ones that only one side of the mechanism close. 💜
many years ago I was told by an artist to add a little bit of honey to tempura paints to paint on table cloth paper so it didn't ripple. It worked great for the kids to make banners. Who knows what it did but not a ripple.
Those self care cards are amazing, sometimes we think we know all of that but it's nice to revist them and figure out how to use them each day. Good luck with everything. Happy Birthday!
Oh my goodness, Amy! Your fall sounds so bad! You are such a trooper and an inspiration - a real lesson in how to get through a tough time. Your art therapy deck and book sound wonderful. Um, I'll have a cuppa that pumpkin pie spice chai tea! Sounds like a perfect pairing while you make some art - well, art that doesn't involve painting because we all know how goes...haha. Love your wonderful tip on how to flatten out a curled painting! Would you do that with watercolor / conventional gouache as well? Or would you only use it for an acrylic based medium? Anyways, yeah, a torn meniscus and debris, and a messed up patella? I had pretty much the same thing way back in the day thanks to arthritis and a wrong step. After months of PT, i was finally referred to surgery. That should have been an option right away because the only way to repair a torn meniscus generally is to cut off the torn parts. Mine looked like frayed silk and was totally non-repairable. The knee cap tho - yikes! I am keeping my fingers crossed that all is repairable with the least invasive surgery.
It’s taken me about a year to learn how to use acrylic gouache effectively, I’m getting good at blending it now. I’m so sorry about the diagnosis of your knee. Big hugs xx
Thank you so much for the love and prayers! 🙏 I appreciate it. It was just a freak accident and I wish I could go back in time and change it. I'm trying not to be mad at myself and the injury but it's disheartening to find myself back here again. Thanks for taking the time to watch and leave a comment! It means so much!
The one thing good about 2024 is it is almost over. 2023 was not a good year for me so I was glad to see the back end of that. Love your videos thank you for all the content you do for us. I hope you had a wonderful Birthday 😊👩🏻🎨
If you haven’t already tried them, you might try Golden Open Acrylics. They are more like oil paints than regular acrylics. If you thin them with GAC100 you can get very translucent glazes. The longer drying time allows easier alla prima like painting and blending of edges and colors so you don’t have to do the layering more standard for acrylics.
Knee injuries are the worst! I injured mine in a car crash (I was in the passenger seat and rammed the knee against the dashboard when the other car rammed into us) and I ended up needing surgery. My dad handled the lawsuit for me so I could recover. The other driver was at fault btw so I was able to sue. I hope your recovery goes better than mine 🙏🏻 I’m fine now but it was traumatic and I still don’t feel safe in a car unless I’m driving LOL
I would defo be up for working through art therapy cards on patreon. I have been looking at cards myself. Im sorry your looking at surgery again but given time and healing youll be better than ever. Interested in working on bristol. I have a few different pads as i used to work in coloured pencil as my main medium.
Hi Amy. Oh no, snow!! Lol. I live in Northern Colorado and we still have not had our first snow but it should happen soon. It's beautiful but i don't care for the cold. 😅 I'm glad to see you are looking after your mental health and finding ways to stay creative. I'll be thinking of you with your injury ( and want to hear about that chocolate cheesecake!!) 😅😅 Take good care.
I know it's coming but I am just not ready yet! Lol! And the cheesecake was delicious! Thank you for taking the time to comment and watch! I appreciate it!
🦸♀️You know I love your Art. But as I watch your videos more and more. Getting to know you and your Personality Your the hole package. I feel your Pain I broke my fumer in 3 place's in my late 30s. Took me over a year to learn how to walk again. But I did it. I'm praying for you. Stronger Together 🦸♀️💪🦸♂️ You Got this. 🌹❣🌻🍁🌹😘
Your video looks a lot like the years I lived in the mtns of CO. I’m not missing the snow or cold. One thing about surgery you might heal faster I felt with a lot of years of major anxiety and I found using Bible based affirmations helped I would like more info on using watercolor gouache thanks
Thanks for the tips! It's always nice to hear people's stories. I love hearing how people find what works for them to heal. And thank you so much for watching!
Amy I am so sorry you are going through this. I will be having surgery on my neck 10/30. I am having my spine fused with a new disk added. I had no idea they went through your throat to do this. My husband will be happy because I won't be able to talk for a few days after. Oh joy. Please know that we are all here for you. Love ya girl.
Happy belated birthday. I probably got on your nerves when I told you that you can benefit from taking the homeopathic Arnica C 30. It does not matter what the cause of your continuous slaps on/in your body are. On a metaphysical level, you are being bruised and bruised and bruised and it would be nice to try to change that. Arnica cannot harm you, it can only do you good. Wishing you only well. Warm greetings from a 62 year old therapist from overseas.
I have a request. I’m visually impaired. I love your videos. Wondering if you could or would leave your captions up in screen just a few sec I do linger? I’m thinking about 5 or so seconds linger. May not work for you and I understand. Just thought I’d ask. Sorry your knee git so messed up. Here’s to 2025 being so much less stress for you.
