Thanks for your kind words, Pavia, yes this setup works great for 'deflaking' flat-surfaced slabs, however to transform 'deflaked' slabs into more 'natural looking' bifaces is still a challenge for me. The setup of the jig as it is now doesn't seem to work well on bifaces that already have some convexity. But I'm tinkering with another (adjustable) design that hopefully will work on both flat slabs as well on bifaces.
I really enjoyed watching you flake this blade. Very cool device an very accurate for flake removals. I hope to see many more videos from you in the near future. -Paleoman52-
I thank you for this video I've torn my shoulder to many times and have no strength left do you have plans for your jig if so I would love a set or I will just guss but anyways thank you
Nice work, I have enjoyed watching all of your videos. This jig you made is fantastic for working slabs. I would be interested to see what this could do with a flint biface. Thanks for sharing your creation.
Hello, I'm really interested in this but can't seem to find any slabs of obsidian. Even thick glass slabs are hit and miss on ebay. Is there a supplier or is it something you have to produce yourself?
Hi Nathaniel, I bought all my obsidian slabs on Ebay many years ago (2007/2008), from various - mostly U.S. based - sellers, last time I checked all these sellers were not active anymore, so unfortunately I can't help you there. I bought loads and loads of slabs back then, but when this old supply is finished I'll also have a problem, I fear... The glass slabs I use are of plain, untreated (e.g. not heat-treated, very important, as e.g. heat-treated glass is not knap-able, it'll just break apart in thousands of pieces, if it breaks at all, it's very strong), 'breakable' window glass that I either buy in 'regular' 'window glass shops', or find 'on the street' (or in cheap 'thrift shops') as e.g. discarded huge plates of glass that served as 'table tops'. I also bought me a top-quality glass-cutter ("Silberschnitt" brand) to be able to cut such plates of glass into the 4 to 8 cm (1½ - 3 inch) wide strips that I try to transform into blades. My favorite thickness for glass or obsidian slabs is 8 mm or about 5/16 inch. Hope this helps somewhat! Good luck!
very cool I have used a bench setup I tried in flint ridge and made one at home I sat on with the same ring worked well I like this better. great for people with injuries who cant knapp in the normal way to allow them to continue the beautiful art of knapping . great video !
Listen eyeball I didn't call you a moron and I don't know why you called me one, If you are a republican that fight change that's your problem and your going to have live with it.
Beautiful tecnic wow..

I like the way you dull that surface,it is essential to pull a flake.

I like it,I think I might be able to build one.
Thanks for your kind words, Paleoman! Much appreciated :-)
I really enjoy your videos. I have been knapping for about a year now. And this is an excellent way to knap.
Not bad,and that is a long piece.
I always wondered how to do that. So what's the process continuing from there?

How thick is the slab & how far in are you setting the tip of the ishi stick for thise long flahes?
where can I get a jig like this
Sir what is it your flaking rod is tipped with if I may ask?
yes what is the tip called
Where did you find an obsidian slab?
www.ebay.com/itm/253610856212
Craig Ratzat at www.neolithics.com has tons of obsidian and cuts slabs.
This is disgusting. you need to get rid of the jig and learn how to knap without it
Anything that easier and faster is OK my me. You sound like a far right republpuckian that fight change.
James Jones you sound like an illiterate moron.

@@JEJ2502 why don't we alk chill .... im a Republican i may not like change but i dont fight it .....
Personally I don’t like slab napping though I think that it’s OK as long as you don’t try and pass it off as being knapped primitive.
