I love Cars 2 so much. It's not exactly an animated film for everyone. I mean, I watched it a lot even as a child, but mostly because there was action and I just enjoyed it, but the story is seriously complicated to understand. I understand why someone might not like it, Mater is an idiot at times and Mcqueen quite a bit too, but thanks to that at the end Mcqueen understands Mater and Mater Mcqueen and their friendship gets even stronger. I would say that the action is just right and they didn't even forget the original characters from the first one, which I have to appreciate. Because I like spy movies and there are still characters that I liked in the first one, so I don't have much to complain about. It is just so unique, so fun, so complex yet simple movie. I do agree that Cars 2 is overhated, but some of the arguments here I do not agree with. First off, saying people are wrong to criticize a Cars movie for not being about racing is just idk, it’s kinda illogical to turn a series about racing into spies out of nowhere as imagine for a moment if Toy Story, instead of it being about toys and children, it suddenly changed to be about toys and monsters? That would just be too random of a change in direction. Second, saying people put their expectations way too high is ridiculous when you literally mentioned that Cars is one of Pixar’s least beloved franchises and the fact that the first Cars was the least critically acclaimed movie to come out of Pixar in the 2000’s. Third, saying Cars has never had thoughtful messaging is very arrogant and honestly insulting to the franchise as the first is a story about a man who wanted to go as fast as possible and become as big as possible, to the point of hurting the people around him (such as ignoring his crew at the beginning and not letting Mack get any sleep just to get to California before everyone else) but then learning to slow down and smell the roses through the people of Radiator Springs shown most evidently by him not crossing the finish line before helping the King out. Then in Cars 3, Lightning learns that with younger and faster racers coming in it means his time of racing is coming to an end, and he tries to deny that by almost killing him self in the process but eventually comes to realize that Doc’s favorite part of life wasn’t being on the track, but rather mentoring Lightning. So he comes to embrace the change in his life and take on Cruse as his pupil. Even though none of us are cars, or racers, Cars 1 and 3 still have powerful messaging that resonates with audiences. Meanwhile, aside from Lightning learning he shouldn’t had lashed out at Mater, Cars 2 doesn’t have a very clear message that pulls the whole movie together. Overall, while I feel that this movie gets too much hate, I don’t agree with your arguments here. However, I do respect them.
It astounds me so many consider this a worse sequel than Toy Story 4 or Incredibles 2 which either flanderized, watered down, and/or assinated characters and also broke their own worldbuilding too

Yeah, Cars 2 has always been a guilty pleasure of mine! All those cool spy thrilling action sequences are what truly made the whole experience enduring!
DUDE, i was actually first known the Cars franchise ever since the second movie was out already! I remember when i was a kid i was in love with a talking cars that have an emotional connection while i was being tense for the racing parts the first time 😂 When i watched the second one that aired on my local TV channel, i didn't even think about any expectations from this i just went on to watch and boy i'm hooked! I liked Cars 2. Growing up I was never super into the Cars franchise (this girl prefers dragons and magic to Nascar Racing), but Cars 2 was one of the earliest exposures I had to the spy genre of movies. And I thought it was SO COOL.
I wasn’t super convinced by Rohan’s argument, but I respect his passion in describing why he likes the movie. And I did think the movie was fine in its own right, I just don’t think the positives are quite as high as he makes them out to be.
I may not consider it the worst Pixar movie now, but I still don't really like it. Honestly, if Ralph Breaks the Internet was made by them, I would have instantly put that at the bottom, because at least this movie didn't insult its audience with character assassinations and horrible outdated metahumour.
I did Watch cars 2 ln the cinema when I was three years old back in 2011 but then I thought it was funny because I didn’t have any thoughts on it but I loved it and I saw the first one when I was nine years old in 2017 otherwise, it protest, but no, there was some seeds I did notice
Anyone who says this movie had no emotional depth is just letting all the other problems they see color their experience. The *least* you can say for this movie is the emotional roller coaster it took you on. Even if you hated every other aspect of this movie, I think you'd have to give it credit for handling its emotional conflict well.
Cars 2 fans need all the support we can get 🙂↕️This is my favorite Pixar movie other than the 2 Inside Out movies and I hope more people will like it for what it is
But I didn’t watch the first cars movie in cinemas because I was Born than the 22nd of November 2007 and the first movie was released in 2006 so I wasn’t even born yet but I did see on DVD when I was either five or six years old in 2013 or 2014 and I loved it
I liked Cars 2, as it was nice for Pixar to try a spy film for a change, and one thing I have to say about Lightyear. Lightyear? More like, Lightweight
I always liked Cars 2, to be honest the only problem that I have with this movie is the (likely unintentional) ableism, but I also can relate with Mater as a neurodiverse person
i was actually watching cars 2 a few days ago and i don't think it's as bad as many say, is it flawed? oh yeah definitely but i don't think it's outright terrible
Cars 2 is pretty much a gigantic Pierce Bronsan 007 era car chase for me. And I love it for that. I also like how the guns were implemented into the cars themselves. I found it creative.
To be Honest, I agree that Cars 2 is not Pixar’s Worst Movie and I think it’s good (not as great as Cars 1 or 3 but good). I think both Incredibles 2 and Toy Story 4 are worse than Cars 2 because of the animation and character assassination.
I stil enjoyed cars 2 i just wished lighting mcqueen and maters friendship was touched more cause the only thing I remember is the action scenes Edit: my opinion is related to the dialogue, the main reason I couldn’t follow along while watching it
I confess, I kind of like Cars 2. I never saw why everyone else saw it as the cancer on Pixar’s good name to the point where it “deserved” 39% from critics. With that said, I kind of agree. The animation IS great, it’s just never talked about because people would rather complain about the story. “The comic-relief being the main character” has been done by Disney and even Pixar a couple of times (Lion King 1 and 1/2, Monsters University, and Finding Dory, just to name a few). The plot… okay, I can’t think of a good defense against the spies consistently missing that Mater’s not a spy, but it’s fine. It’s not a great film, but it’s a fine enough viewing.
Gonna be honest, the points he made are are very weak. I have a lot of nostalgia enjoyment for Cars 2, but I can’t say it’s objectively a good film. Gonna go through each point in chronological order and give my thoughts on them. I agree that not every character needs to be relatable but I’ve never heard anyone bring that up as an argument against Cars 2. The dialogue is fine to be honest. I’ve heard far worst. What are you trying to communicate with the plot section? You make Cars sound like it has a complicated plot (which it doesn’t) and say Cars 2 has a plot. Of course Cars 2 has a plot, I have never seen anyone deny it has a plot. Cars 2’s plot is far more complex and harder to follow than Cars. I’m not says 2’s plot is difficult to follow, but in comparison to Cars it’s no question what has a more comprehensible plot. You can make a racing more fun. What are you talking about? Cars and Cars 3 was about racing and were lots of fun. I’ve watched tons of fun racing movies. Huh? And yes, I would have preferred if a racing film’s sequel was mainly focused on racing. Like if Casino Royale’s sequel was about Bond entering a NASCAR race, everyone would be extremely confused. Just because I personally enjoy a film, doesn’t make it good. You gotta separate subjectiveness and objectiveness when criticizing films. Yeah, it has emotional depth. Are characters written poorly to do so, yes, but it has depth nevertheless. Making the comic relief the main is neither a poor or a negative. It all depends on how the character is handled. Of course people are gonna be disappointed when a sequel is worse than its predecessor. Sequels should try to be on par of better than its predecessor. I’ve never seen anyone say Cars 2 has no moral. It clearly has a moral. Even 7 year old me knew what the message was. No one is saying there’s more moral. Cars 2 does a horrible job expanding the universe. The world building is even worse than Cars. If you even stop and think about the things it introduces (human food, sinks, buses, etc), the world doesn’t work. Yes, the animation is incredible. If it came out today, people wouldn’t bat an eye. Yeah, I too like the humor. I’ll add a few of my points that you didn’t add. The score is incredible, both the original score and the licensed music is done so well, Characters are written awfully. Mater acts like way to much of an idiot compared to his character in Cars. The whole inciting incident of Mater messing up Lightning in Tokyo is so out of character. He’s goofy, but not that dumb to leave his line open with McQueen and not sign off while he’s talking to him. Finn acts so dumb. No way he doesn’t question Mater’s legitimacy as a spy. No way he’s never thought of tracking cars down by their rare parts. No way he doesn’t see or hear the helicopter with the big ass magnet above him in Italy. These are just a few example, but the writing is so bad in Cars 2. So yeah, I’m conclusion, Cars 2 is a heavily flawed film and should not objectively be considered good.
Honestly i'm not gonna lie when this film came out i used to like it but then later i hear a lot of the negativity and hate towards Cars 2. So Nodaways my opinions on Cars 2 is just simply Meh not Terrible or a God awful film like everybody else says. But the only good scenes are the racing scenes and that's it but I'll take The First Cars Movie anyday now because that's the better film in my opinion.
I don't care what the critics say, they are never satisfied with anything. Back when I watched this sequel I enjoyed it and thought it was better than the first film and interesting fact: of all three films "Cars 2" grossed the most at the box office and the third film had the lowest box office even though it had a bigger budget than its predecessors.
I always thought as a kid that cars 2 was a good movie because it was funny, as I grew up I saw it’s not the best but it didn’t have to he if children enjoyed it.
I can kinda see rohan's defense and it's kind of a bit validating to me and opened my eyes to things that I've missed but still this is my least favorite sequel in the cars franchise
Woah listening to Rohan's argument for this movie, honestly made me hate it even more now. It has terrible messaging about being ignorant to your surroundings and other people's feelings thats not a good message to send to children. The fact that all the characters are stupid lighting, Finn, Holly all are idiotic in there own special way when mater told finn and Holly he's not a spy they still think he's a spy for no reason, the plot is just push foward by random misunderstanding all the time like the agents not knowing what the American spy looked like, mater activating his parachute, mater not muting himself on the voice call ,lightning overhearing mater while he was talking to holly and taking it as advice during the race (even though he should probably not have, considering he's a professional racer and should know what to do in this situation) which started this blasted story and lighting not knowing what a bomb is there are many more examples but there are other glaring flaws with movie like how the jokes aren't funny( I'm going to Steal this bit from flaze fire but Comedy is not subjective, Its a science with a formula,What you laugh at is subjective but just because you laugh at it doesn't make it a good joke) the majority of the jokes are aimed at babies the wasabi joke wasn't funny, the date jokes weren't funny most of the jokes are just wow mater stupid and that's it, the only joke that is mildly funny was the bathroom scene and even then its not that funny but has a bit of creativity to it. Now the worldbuilding of this movie. I don't know what rohan is talking about but its just our world but if the people were vehicles But there's no unique twist on how things work like how cities are structured, culture and food (which is literally just human food) there's no effort put into the worldbuilding like in robots it's literally just our world but with Cars. The plot of this movie is not anti capitalist or left wing if anything it's defends corporations by deflecting the blame onto the lemons, a group of cars who are clearly disabled and trying to stop the worlds powers from taking away their parts that they need to survive, this is basically eugenics and mater supports it he doesn't call this out in the movie Basically implying that it's ok to treat people who are disabled as lesser than you , that's really bad. And to add on Rohan's point about climate change in this movie. They never actually address climate change in movie and they never bring up how the oil industry negatively affects the environment. Now the emotional core of this movie is nonexistent. mater and lightning don't grow in this movie. They just stay stationary until the very end. Lightning has a vague lesson about accepting mater for who he is. Even though here's the thing he already learned that lesson in the first movie and also the mater was acting like an complete idiot in japan. So yeah, lightning had every right to be mad at him. And mater doesn't even learn any lessons he just stays the same from beginning to end. The reason mater doesn't work as a protagonist is because he only has one singular personality trait. It's not because he's the comic relief. It's because he literally has no characteristics other than being stupid and annoying. A movie about goofy can work because goofy has more than one personality trait. Also the minions movie is not a good example of comic relief characters becoming the main characters because the minions movie is terrible. Honestly, the animation for this movie isn't that impressive, it's less expressive than the first movie. The twist villain is terrible and was not built up as a twist villain, axelrod doesn't work because he's revealed too late so he didn't have enough time to actually be antagonistic. Now there are few good Things about this movie for one.The soundtrack is brilliant, the lighting effects are very nice looking, there is one good scene in the middle of the movie where mater was talking about his dents and how he keeps them for sentimental value that was actually a nice scene and the action scenes are pretty good and that's it thats the good part To sum up everything I've said. No, I'm not convinced, but just because it's a bad movie doesn't mean you can't enjoy it And if rohan enjoyed it, that's fine. I just didn't find their argument that convincing
I agree that a lot of the points in this video weren’t well thought out. But still, some of your criticism doesn’t make sense. There is no shifting blame, the lemons are still the villains in the movie. Yes, they have tragic backstories like lots of villains, but what they’re doing is still wrong. Out of all the ways they could achieve power in society, they choose to blow up cars and instill fear in alternative fuel, so they can profit off of gasoline. This story actually works for a Cars movie because oil is something that cars need to function. Cars are alive in this universe. Creating a monopoly on oil is the same as if one company was in charge of access to clean water. Don’t understand what you mean by Axelrod not being antagonistic. Miles Axelrod was shown throughout the entire movie and it’s clear that there is someone who is leading the Lemons. Obviously they have to reveal him at the end because if they reveal him early, he would just get arrested and the movie would end. This movie shows that Mater isn’t stupid. Since he is a tow truck and works in a junkyard, he is extremely knowledgeable on cars, which is why he was able to figure out the one car with those parts. Sure, Mater is naive and slow to process some information. But the only dumb thing he did was screw up McQueen in the race, which he understands was his mistake and leaves.
@kumaranrvn5716 Yeah, I know that the lemon mafia are bad people. I'm not saying they're like good activists. I'm not saying that, but I am saying that they generally wanted to change how lemons were treated in society. And now, at the end of the movie, that is villainized, and the status quo is maintained, and if you are a lemon you should continue to live in squalor as your government plans to exterminate you 😀 Fun kids movie that's is apparently good now Sir raxelrod still sucks as a twist and a villain because you know he's not built up to be the main antagonists because hes only in the movie for a short bit that can work, but then he doesn't do anything truly villainous at the end either, wouldn't it have been better if mater found him out early so we're Actually able to digest that information that 1 of the characters is a villain.Because in the actual movie I don't give a s*** because he's been gone for a nearly half an hour. Lotso the bear from Toy Story 3 works because he had a lot of suspicious behaviour and he was in the movie for a long time and he also wasn't revealed that the very end. Now I'm not saying that Mater himself is stupid. Im just saying he still doesn't work as a man.Protagonist primarily.Because he still only has the fact that he is a comedic Funny guy who doesn't have much else going on
Cars 2 is not good. The story is built around misunderstandings i get angry when an easy as hell problem that could be solved by 2 words dont get solved because of "the plot" has to happen like Mater you ARE the bomb mcqueen says while mater is shouting about a bomb strapped to him. Mc missle can probably mistake a chair for a seceet agent + most of the jokes are not funny.
I don't think Cars 2 is great, but I do think it's a good movie. It's fun. It is a bad sequel, though. One thing I appreciate is that it respected the original movie. There are way worse Pixar movies. Lightyear, Toy Story 4, Incredibles 2, Turning Red, Brave, Elemental, Finding Dory, and The Good Dinosaur. I do like all the Cars films, especially the third.
I feel like this argument can be applied to other films as well, not just Cars 2. Some examples I can think of are the Ice Age sequels, the live action Alvin and the Chipmunks movies, the live action Garfield movies, the live action Scooby Doo movies, Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken, Hop, The Wild, Uglydolls, A Bug’s Life, and The Emoji Movie. All of these films I think are good because they are very entertaining. I do think this is a good take on Cars 2. I’ll definitely be rewatching Cars 2 in the near future.
I definitely think Cars 2 is better than Lightyear. At least the animation in this movie is bright and colorful unlike in that movie which looks so dull and plain looking.
Not to mention Cars 2 is actually well-made and the characters are in-character.

I have always enjoyed Cars 2. I remember when that film came out.
Tbh, I didn’t LOVE it, but I thought it was just fine. I do understand why this movie is hated though. Maybe if it was a spin-off movie?
Cars 2 fans need all the support we can get 🙂↕️This is my favorite Pixar movie other than the 2 Inside Out movies and I hope more people will like it for what it is
Oh no Dr. storm isn’t gonna like this😮😅🤞
But I didn’t watch the first cars movie in cinemas because I was Born than the 22nd of November 2007 and the first movie was released in 2006 so I wasn’t even born yet but I did see on DVD when I was either five or six years old in 2013 or 2014 and I loved it
I liked Cars 2, as it was nice for Pixar to try a spy film for a change, and one thing I have to say about Lightyear.
Lightyear? More like, Lightweight
I like Cars 2 so mutch better then, Onward, Soul, Turning Red, Lightyear, And Elemental. At least Cars 2 is fun and not boring unlike those movies.
I enjoyed it, but I'll never forgive them for trashing the Rover V8
I knew I wasn't the only one!
I've been looking forward to this
I stil enjoyed cars 2 i just wished lighting mcqueen and maters friendship was touched more cause the only thing I remember is the action scenes
Edit: my opinion is related to the dialogue, the main reason I couldn’t follow along while watching it
Since we know cars 4 will be coming out, I wonder if it will have a cars 2 situation
It's a bad movie and ruined the franchise
I do think the spy elements are rather underrated
Cars 2 is NOT a great movie. It's the WORST movie ever made, along with King Kong 1976, and Frozen...
I love cars 2 so much im so glad someone is talking about it
The Oracle has spoken
The score is incredible, both the original score and the licensed music is done so well,
Characters are written awfully.
I loved Cars as a kid and Cars 2 is a good movie. I also like Cars 3.
Cool, I think Cars 2 is overhated as well.
If you guys had slightly better audio with more whispering tones you’d go viral.
I think Cars 2 is severely misunderstood and I love it as much as Lightyear!
Cars 2 is good but atleast its better than turning red, lightyear and Toy story 4
That’s pretty subjective my boy, don’t be out here saying it like it’s an objective fact
I don't know what rohan is talking about but its just our world but if the people were vehicles
But there's no unique twist on how things work like how cities are structured, culture and food (which is literally just human food) there's no effort put into the worldbuilding like in robots it's literally just our world but with Cars.
And to add on
Rohan's point about climate change in this movie.
Now there are few good Things about this movie for one.The soundtrack is brilliant, the lighting effects are very nice looking, there is one good scene in the middle of the movie where mater was talking about his dents and how he keeps them for sentimental value that was actually a nice scene and the action scenes are pretty good and that's it thats the good part
To sum up everything I've said. No, I'm not convinced, but just because it's a bad movie doesn't mean you can't enjoy it
And if rohan enjoyed it, that's fine. I just didn't find their argument that convincing
Also , just because the plot is conclusive doesn't make it a good plot I just means it ended
And now, at the end of the movie, that is villainized, and the status quo is maintained, and if you are a lemon you should continue to live in squalor as your government plans to exterminate you 😀 Fun kids movie that's is apparently good now
Sir raxelrod still sucks as a twist and a villain because you know he's not built up to be the main antagonists because hes only in the movie for a short bit that can work, but then he doesn't do anything truly villainous at the end either, wouldn't it have been better if mater found him out early so we're Actually able to digest that information that 1 of the characters is a villain.Because in the actual movie I don't give a s*** because he's been gone for a nearly half an hour. Lotso the bear from Toy Story 3 works because he had a lot of suspicious behaviour and he was in the movie for a long time and he also wasn't revealed that the very end.
Now I'm not saying that Mater himself is stupid. Im just saying he still doesn't work as a man.Protagonist primarily.Because he still only has the fact that he is a comedic Funny guy who doesn't have much else going on
I thought this movie was all right. Not the worst thing but okay
YES THANK YOU CARS 2 IS SO GOOD AND IM SO TIRED OF PEOPLE OVERLY HATING ON IT
nice try but this is still Pixar's first misfire despite having a great song at the end
Cars 2 is incredible and peak entertainment. Turn off your brain and have the best time of your life.
It's so annoying that cars 3 needs to pretend cars 2 didn't happen. like cmonnnn, that just feels kinda weird
Maybe because of different director
I Didn't think there was anyone else out there Who liked cars 2 like I did
Same
🦉
Cars 2 is not good. The story is built around misunderstandings i get angry when an easy as hell problem that could be solved by 2 words dont get solved because of "the plot" has to happen like Mater you ARE the bomb mcqueen says while mater is shouting about a bomb strapped to him. Mc missle can probably mistake a chair for a seceet agent + most of the jokes are not funny.
That’s your opinion
@@sharko34 chad opinion
I don't think Cars 2 is great, but I do think it's a good movie. It's fun. It is a bad sequel, though. One thing I appreciate is that it respected the original movie. There are way worse Pixar movies. Lightyear, Toy Story 4, Incredibles 2, Turning Red, Brave, Elemental, Finding Dory, and The Good Dinosaur. I do like all the Cars films, especially the third.
How I rank the Cars movies:
2>1>3
That’s my ranking too
Cars 3 is the worst cars movie 🤮🤮
Cars 2 is king
I feel like this argument can be applied to other films as well, not just Cars 2. Some examples I can think of are the Ice Age sequels, the live action Alvin and the Chipmunks movies, the live action Garfield movies, the live action Scooby Doo movies, Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken, Hop, The Wild, Uglydolls, A Bug’s Life, and The Emoji Movie. All of these films I think are good because they are very entertaining. I do think this is a good take on Cars 2. I’ll definitely be rewatching Cars 2 in the near future.
FIRST
