Lots of themes from these early pieces I recognize from later Liszt pieces. He had a habit of writing large improvisational fantasies based on themes, then reusing those themes in other pieces. I really enjoy it. Liszt is my favorite composer because I just find him so interesting to listen to. I don't even think he's necessarily the 'best' composer, but he never bores me.
Liszt has produced so much music, that even some of his better pieces are often unknown. I'd never heard of this piece until I randomly stumbled upon this recording online.
I don't think it belongs to the 'good' category in Liszt's compositions. The structure is quite loose, with great deal elements of improvisation. However, as his very early composition, this clearly laid fundations for the thematic transformation which is widely deployed in his main works.
This piece isn't as good as I remember from my previous hearing. It suffers a bit from the same weaknesses of some of his other early compositions - an overlong introduction, a fair amount of padding of indifferent material, especially in the middle section, and in one or two cases not enough time devoted to the better stuff (for instance, I love the way the Heimweh theme is transformed in the animated 6/8 B major section in the ethereal higher register, but not enough is done with that). I feel this piece would have been a great one if Liszt had revisited and extensively revised it with the care that he did with other early compositions (Annees de Pelerinage, Transcendental Studies etc), but I imagine he forgot about or basically disowned it (he was quite self-critical and didn't have a very high opinion of the truly groundbreaking Harmonies poétiques et religieuses I from two years previously), or understandably felt there was no need to spend any more time on this when he'd created a quality composition that already contains one of its main themes (Le mal du Pays from the Swiss Annees de Pelerinage). But at its best, it contains some very imaginative writing for piano, has plenty of moments of beauty and poetry, and without being very deep does a good job of evoking the atmosphere of the sounds and sights of the Swiss landscape.

Rare liszt piece never fail to surpise me
In this case, I found the main motive resembles to the B-A-C-H motive

Li Zedi Yes, which pieces belong into that good category is different. This one (like many others) is clearly very improvisatory.
Yeah they surprise me too, I thought I burned them all
Felt like I was in a silent film for a while there. I actually quite enjoy the sound quality.
Браво гениально сыграл виртуозно и проникновенно
Wish this was up on spotify

He also split off the Ranz to form one of his Trois morceaux suisses.

Your link to the sheet music is missing a closing bracket in the URL.
Mithra Yeah, it’s a youtube bug. Nothing I can do about it.
That's too bad. You could always a note in the description mentioning the bug, I guess.
Thanks for the upload by the way. And the rapid response!
Mithra You’re right that I should probably acknowledge the bug. Thanks for watching!
😂❤
Did the pianist forget the 3/4 at the beginning?! 🤦🏻♂️
Elias Durzi It seems fine to me
