My Mother used to play the Battle Hymn on her stereo and had all 6 of my children marching all through her house waving small American flags on sticks. What a beautiful memory and what a glorious way to celebrate Memorial Day!!
At 81, I am the youngest of the 5 Miller brothers who proudly served Our Country for the freedom many people today take for granted. This video always brings tears to my eyes as they run down my cheeks. It won’t be long before I stand in front of Our Savior, as many singing this song have gone before me.
I am also 81. All the men served: my brother and I were Army, Dad snd hi brother were Marines. Mom's brother was Air Force. This humn always chokes me up. God bless America and all who serve or have served her.
The below comment "AS he died to make men holy, LET US LIVE TO MAKE MEN FREE." I always get chocked up when singing those words. Freedom is Holy and given to us by our Heavenly Father. It is up to us to make sure it doesn't die.
Great Men and Women have made this beautiful land a GREAT place for mankind. We can all learn from the Patriots that created this Great country: AMERICA !
I'm Jewish, born in Israel, raised in the United States. The Battle Hymn of the Republic has left me breathless my whole life. No reason necessary. It just does. God blesses us all!
My father as well; retired Vietnam Major, and passed from complications from exposure to Agent Orange. The only time I saw him cry was during this song. Grateful to your father for his service ❤️🇺🇸
This song by the Tabernacle Choir reached to #13 on Billboards top 40 in 1959. You couldn't go anywhere without hearing this great anthem sung by the world's greatest choir.
Mormon Tabernacle Choir does not change the music. They do the music as it was written - and they do it better than anyone else has ever done it. But they keep the original composition.
Worse yet, that people forget or ignore the cause for which they were originally written, and actively fight against those causes, all while proclaiming to be patriots.
As a non believer, I give my greatest respect to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Mormon Tabernacle Orchestra. One of the finest choirs and orchestras in the world. Very disciplined and strong in their faith. It will be an honor to be invited to the Mormon Tabernacle to listen and appreciate the Mormon Tabernacle choir and the Mormon Tabernacle Orchestra.
To the person who likeed my comment, thankyou for your 👍. You have have encouraged me to get to know the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Mormon Tabernacle Orchestra in regards to their history and the principles they abide by.
Thank you TH-cam viewers for your 👍. The more 👍and ❤ I acknowledge, the more I am encouraged to delve into the history, culture and principles of the Mormon Tabernacle choir and the Mormon Tabernacle Orchestra.
I was privileged to sing this arrangement with the Park Cities Baptist Church choir a few years ago for our Independence Day concert. It never fails to move me. God bless our great nation.
As am I. I love this choir and often use their recordings to rehearse on my own for hymns we sing at church. (Faith of our Fathers is one example - gorgeous!) I am currently a cantor and choir member in my church but in high school I belong to an "all archdiocese" chorus, about 100 voices from around NYC. We performed this same arrangement at Lincoln Center; I still can sing it, and get the same goosebumps!
As an atheist living in the United Kingdom, I salute the astounding brilliance of this choir of Christian persons. The voice control, the precision of the ensemble (very difficult with a choir as big as this) the intonation, to say nothing of the incredible audibility of the diction! every word and syllable beautifully pronounced, and moreover the commitment of this famous choir to the music they are singing..... either to the Lord or, in this case, their country. Thank you for posting this wonderful musical experience.
When I was a child, this song played nightly at midnight before the stations went off the air. 🥰 I was just a toddler but I refused to got to bed until i listened to the Battle Hymn of the Republic.
I'm a laterday saints member, a Filipino, I have friends and family living in the State, my grandfathers fought wars and died for USA. United States of America is a great nation, God bless America!
I am not Christian, but The MTC rendition of this hymn always raises the hair on my arms and gives me chills. It also makes my eyes tear up. God bless the USA and the MTC. We'll done....as always.
In my senior year of high school (very early 00’s), in senior choir, all the senior choirs from my state [district maybe?] got together in a stadium and sang this, along with some other really beautiful patriotic songs. It was the end of the senior year and our high school careers, so I dunno why but, I was so touched and feeling sentimental. When we sang this, I wept. Hearing it now, I weep. His truth will forever be marching on. Nobody feels this way anymore in our country and my heart and soul break because of it. I have a cd of that entire performance somewhere. I’m gonna go through my things and find it! Thanks for inspiring me! ❤️ [I’m an alto, by the way. ALTO POWER 💪]
You should be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day. Saints.. It is the doctrine of Christ! At least the missionaries talk to you. We would welcome you with a hand of brotherhood!
You can visit a the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) just about any where in the world. However, if you want to see the Tabernacle Choir rehearse you do need to visit Tabernacle Square in Salt Lake City, Utah.
+Asmoharg i sall say you dont have to join the morman curch but you are more than likely to join if you chance your mind im morman ilove beaing a decon at my church
It sure is. We sang it this morning and got our first standing ovation ever. Right then the Spirit hit me like a ton of bricks and all I could do was bawl...and shake...and cry some more. ~LOL~ It's that powerfull.
I'm not a Mormon, I'm not American either; But this beautiful lyrics and music, take my respects. Every time I listen to her, I remember my uncle Percy, he sang her all the celebrations of the new years. Greetings from Argentina.
Yes and yes. The main difference is that the Catholics believe they are the authorized church of Jesus Christ since the time that Christ lived on earth until now, and the Mormons believe that there was an apostasy a few hundred years after the time of Christ, when all of the church leaders were killed, and God's authority was taken off of the earth. They believe Jesus Christ's church was then restored in the early 1800s in upstate New York, in the United States. The Mormons also unearthed another testament of Christ, in New York, that was a record of some of the people who left Jerusalem (and the Tower of Babel) and lived in America between about 2000 B.C. and 400 A.D. (not in chronological order, btw) called The Book of Mormon, hence the nick name Mormons. They use this book as a companion scripture to go with the Old and New Testament of Christ called the Bible. The real name of this church is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, so yes, they are Christians. The Mormons consider the Catholics to be welcome friends in the world of Christianity, and often give their charity through the Catholic charities, because the Catholic charities do such an awesome job of getting necessities to people who need them, in such an efficient way and time.
When I was 11 my primary school took part in a combined schools concert at Portsmouth (UK) guildhall. This was the last song we sang. When we had finished, to a rousing ovation, our conductor turned to the audience and said "you lot can do what you like, but we're going to sing that again", No-one left. It is still one of the best moments of my 58 years. Wish I still had my tambourine!
Every American Patriot in December 2020 needs to be listening to the lyrics of this song and take them to heart. We are fighting the second Revolution right now.
I so agree I feel emotional while listening to Mormon songs. Like when I made this cover for a friend of mine at the local Mormon Church in my town Trollhättan Sweden. I had a lot of questions and hesitated a lot before I made this cover. But while I was learning the lyrics I got all the answers I needed and converted to Mormon in 2014. I hope I made the song justice. th-cam.com/video/U_W1W2FQp5A/w-d-xo.html
I'm not religious, but this powerful song brings me to tears every time I hear it... The patriotism alone shouts with every note, what real Americans feel every day... Bless this wonderful country, and all those patriots who would die to keep men free !!!
As a young boy, I grew up directly next to the largest Mormon Church in the Southern hemisphere. My house shared a fence with the church. On a warm summer day I would open windows .. just so I could hear them sing... no I am not a religious person. The church is situated in Australia, Southern suburbs of Sydney.
A true story! I was doing the all-night shift on KNAK, a Top 40 radio station in Salt Lake back in 1971. I played the "Battle Hymn" as an 'oldie'(#11 pop hit in 1959). I found out the next day that my station was the only one that had not been knocked off the air by a lightening storm during the night. Certainly got my attention!
I lived and studied with the latter day saints at Utah State University for about seven years in the 5o's and came to love and truly respect these people.I shall never forget those times and the love and respect I have for them. These people for the most part practice what they profess.
Stunningly beautiful. I had the pleasure at a young age (my parents and I traveled all over the Western United States from 1963-1976) to go to Salt Lake City and tour the church and hear the choir. I was probably 13 years old and I will never forget that moment of joy!
There are many powerful words in this. Things like this need to be taught in all schools, especially PUBLIC SCHOOLS. Our great Nations history needs to be learned by all children so they know what our nation represents. Freedom is only one generation away from being lost. Our next generation and generations to come need to understand the significance. I think we are all learning a good lesson of that right now. God bless America! "His truth is marching on!"
I heard them perform this at the Tabernacle last Thursday. It was on my bucket list to hear the choir live. So, at 67, I finally made it to Salt Lake City. Thursdays the public is invited to their rehearsals at Temple Square. My head (and heart) is still swimming.
Few know that this hymn is in fact a prayer to Father God for the country that He inspired our founders to risk all to establish. It is an incredibly difficult piece to sing with feeling AND precision. The MTC truly were inspired. Thank you from a believer of a different church, veteran, patron for this wonderful rendition.
The original lyric was about the abolitionist named John Brown: John Brown's body lies a-mouldering in the grave, His soul's marching on. And,- He's gone to be a soldier in the army of the Lord, His soul's marching on. According to an 1890 account, the original John Brown lyrics were a collective effort by a group of Union soldiers who were referring both to the famous John Brown and also, humorously, to a Sergeant John Brown of their own battalion.
J Warren Richardson As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I want to thank you for your service to the country where all denominations are free to worship.
i seriously need to go back to church
I agree with any Christian faith that believes in Jesus Christ.
Reagan cried to this when sung at his inauguration.
I can see why. It's making me cry now!
My Mother used to play the Battle Hymn on her stereo and had all 6 of my children marching all through her house waving small American flags on sticks. What a beautiful memory and what a glorious way to celebrate Memorial Day!!
My Mother not only loved this song, she also made me learn all the verses to the Marine Corps Hymn before I enlisted in 1966
That's beautiful. I love it.
At 81, I am the youngest of the 5 Miller brothers who proudly served Our Country for the freedom many people today take for granted. Thank you, sir!

I'm Jewish, born in Israel, raised in the United States. The Battle Hymn of the Republic has left me breathless my whole life. No reason necessary. It just does. God blesses us all!
And god bless Israel as well.
“As he died to make men holy, let us live to make men free.” Such power in those words.
The original lyrics are actually "As he died to make men holy, let us die to make men free," I've always felt that was more powerful
@@DorkNorkem so do I..it evokes the actual determination of those Union soldiers...
"Let us die to make men free."
@@DorkNorkem Yes much more powerful, especially at this current time.
@@DorkNorkem That version of the lyrics is for military choirs to sing. Not civilians.
I'm not even religious but hell these mormons can sing !
Battle Hymn was the closing hymn at my father's funeral. 24 years service in the U.S. Army. Still tear up when I hear it.
My father as well; retired Vietnam Major, and passed from complications from exposure to Agent Orange. The only time I saw him cry was during this song. Grateful to your father for his service ❤️🇺🇸
My condolences, loosing a parent is not easy. Peace be with you
Christ died to make man holy, let us live to make men free
This song by the Tabernacle Choir reached to #13 on Billboards top 40 in 1959. You couldn't go anywhere without hearing this great anthem sung by the world's greatest choir.
And now if you have kids you will never get the tune out of your head.
The kids in our schools are
not taught this kind of music anymore.
This song also won a Grammy award for that year.
Mormon Tabernacle Choir does not change the music. They do the music as it was written - and they do it better than anyone else has ever done it. But they keep the original composition.
Thank God We have The tabernacle Choir still. Praise the lord Jesus.
There was a time when this was America....
I am far from being Mormon, but this choir is amazing. Always a joy to hear them.
Amen.
Are they Mormon?
Yes. This is the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square. If you ever visit Salt Lake City, you can sometimes hear them practice live for free.
I just LOVE listening to this Choir!!! ❤️‼️🤗
I am an American and this is the first time I have heard this with the words.
Proude to be a member of this church
It's sad that so many people have forgotten/no longer believe in the lyrics of this song!! The Truth is marching on!!!

The choir sang for me personally about ten years ago at the Tabernacle, truly moving. I give them credit for me becoming a Mormon today.
I was privileged to sing this arrangement with the Park Cities Baptist Church choir a few years ago for our Independence Day concert. It never fails to move me. God bless our great nation.
Beautiful....thank you....from a Roman Catholic! 🙏🏼

A balanced perspective
They’re in Salt Lake City, Utah.

I am a member of the church this choir represents and live in England UK.. thanks for supporting the amazing choir..
I doubt you are truly atheist. I suggest that you probably just don't know what to believe, and that is ok. You will know!
*I’ve always wanted to be part of the Tabernacle Choir!!!* ❤️
GOD loves you
When I listen to this music and the words, I know why I went into battle wearing the uniform of The United States of America. I feel good.
This is such a bombastically over-the-top arrangement of this song, and I love every second of it.
Bombastically over the top...great description. I might have to use that in describing something soon. Thank you for the phrase!
This is one of the best renditions I have had ever heard in my 78 years of my life.
If that doesn't bring a tear to your eye, you are not a believer in our country.
I’m not Mormon but The Tabernacle is amazing and every year around Christmas I search for the choir.
HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY 2023, AMERICA!!!!! 🇺🇲 🇺🇸 🇺🇲 🇺🇸 🇺🇲 🇺🇸 🇺🇲
The songs and hymns of patriotism are so inspired and beloved in our hearts and minds. 🇺🇸 ❤
Its been 3 years since someone has commented on this. In COVID and social unrest times, his truth is still marching on
I love being a Mormon from South Africa
Long live the Republic! It will survive evil, plagues, fools and traitors.
As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men FREE
There is only God who remains steadfast. Even in turbulent times and personal adversity, God is Our Refuge. Amen.
Having deployed multiple times, it was the music of choir that helped me get to sleep. God bless them.
When I was a child, this song played nightly at midnight before the stations went off the air. 🥰 I was just a toddler but I refused to got to bed until i listened to the Battle Hymn of the Republic.
Mormons are some of the most patriotic Americans ever. Thanks for being here!
God Bless the Republic!! =)
America has a long way to go, but I still love this country through and through!
I'm a laterday saints member, a Filipino, I have friends and family living in the State, my grandfathers fought wars and died for USA. United States of America is a great nation, God bless America!
I'm not an American and fulsomely despise all religious sects, but oh, boy, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir really know how to belt this song out.
I'm a member and I can't go for two days without listening to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. One day I will be part of it
1965 High school graduation. The Battle Hymn Of The Republic sung by our choir at the Baccalaureate. Thank you to all that gave their ALL!
Remember when they sang this at Reagan’s Inauguration? My mom watched it when she was little and loves it all! They’re so fantastic!
God Bless The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.🙏
Sung at the funeral of our very own Sir Winston Churchill. A true testament to a great man and a great hymn.
it was Sir Winston wish that it be played at his funeral.
If only church was like this
Our beautiful Battle Hymn of the Republic…God bless our Republic!
I am not Christian, but The MTC rendition of this hymn always raises the hair on my arms and gives me chills. It also makes my eyes tear up. God bless the USA and the MTC. We'll done....as always.

Me 2
I have heard this song countless times. Yet each time, I am uplifted and joyful to a wonderful Saviour and God
I've never seen someone look so happy to sing about where grapes of wrath are stored and God's terrible swift sword as the guy at 0:23.
I'm not a Mormon, I'm not American either; But this beautiful lyrics and music, take my respects. Every time I listen to her, I remember my uncle Percy, he sang her all the celebrations of the new years. Greetings from Argentina.
One of America's favorite hymns/patriotic songs performed by one of America's favorite choirs. No one can top this.
It is recognized as the "unofficial" hymn of this country.
i am an old english mormon of years standing and i am so proud to be a member of our saviours church.
John James McCartney you and me both brother John

Their unison is astounding - all those voices, and you can understand the words!
Every American Patriot in December 2020 needs to be listening to the lyrics of this song and take them to heart. We are fighting the second Revolution right now.
This is the GREATEST choir on the face of this planet
I think the reason their songs are so powerful and moving is because of their faith.
There's just a special something about them
I ABSOLUTELY AGREE.....CY BALDWIN HERE...THANK YOU FOR YOU INPUT.
That's so true I agree with u

Believe in Jesus Christ. It's His Church I declare.
I may be an atheist but I must see these choristers perform in person before I shuffle off this mortal coil. Amazing voices.
They have free concerts every week! Come and see, you are welcome here.
Long live the Union - his truth is marching on
I'm not religious, but this powerful song brings me to tears every time I hear it... The patriotism alone shouts with every note, what real Americans feel every day... Bless this wonderful country, and all those patriots who would die to keep men free !!!
If there is a God.
His will is that all peoples be free.
No doubt.
Same here
The sound you'll hear when you arrive at Heaven's Gate.
I love The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints! I’m proud to be a member!!!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I’m from Ukraine and this is my favourite American song. Well, definitely one of the favourites.

Well you were playing one of God's hymns. He wanted his children to listen.
Well, I guess we know which station God was listening to that night. ;-)
Jim Southern what a great testimony brother....Godbless
HALELUYA !!!!!!!!
Stunningly beautiful!!!! I respect the Mormons for what they stand for and several of my best employees are Mormons.....the best choir in the world!
Let us live to make men free with His truth.
And once again, the Mormon tabernacle choir, hits it out of the park!
I lived and studied with the latter day saints at Utah State University for about seven years in the 5o's and came to love and truly respect these people.I shall never forget those times and the love and respect I have for them. These people for the most part practice what they profess.

The Tabernacle Choir OWNS the Battlehymn....this is stunning, but to hear it live and not weep is impossible

There is no greater version of this song than this performance.
Agreed…
The signature song of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Listened to the 45 record again and again when I was in college in the 1950's.
remember when it was No 1 on the charts?
Nothing beats it, only the sky !! Greetings from Pforzheim / Germany
