It has been said when it comes to Stray Kids, expect the unexpected. Yes, they are essentially ‘boy band’. Yes, they are ‘kpop’. But their music said otherwise. Their composition, their lyricism, is not all typical pop. Nothing wrong with pop. But Stray Kids play with their music. A lot. Their flows, their compositions, their lyrics. They work as how and as they want to. It is interesting. Every time SKZ releases something, there is always that song that can shock you. Or a bunch of songs.

Tortoise and The Hare is another really good one that showcases their versatility/experimental sound. Its another you will or won't song, I personally like it cause I just enjoy weird, different stuff lol, but its a song they did to experiment, try out, do something different.

It was divided into two parts, both the vocal line and rapper are all rapping here to show their versatility, the first part is taken in Korean and the other part in English, it kinda makes sense Felix, Chan and seungmin have the English parts, I mean they speak good english, Han speaks good as well but I guess he just decided to be part of Korean section since he is versatile, it's not their best but it definitely does well showing their versatility

This song is one of my favourites, I love how they use the music to amplify the meaning. It starts angry lyrically talking about trying to push forward and being hated on but they keep switching up the beat, changing track, persisting, changing languages and end the song claiming they never will stop. I feel like Stray Kids are a group where if you tell them they can't do something they will accomplish it anyway in the most unexpected way. They work so incredibly hard and constantly stretch their creativity. You can never 100% predict what they're going to come out with and I love that about them.

They're at about 150 songs in the discography now (with a Japanese album dropping in a few days and at least two more albums coming this year, plus singles). There are dozens of non-hard songs to check out if you're interested! This is actually a huge portion of their music, but most people never look past the title tracks that are designed to be hard.
    A couple notes first:
1] Stray Kids releases a _lot_ of unofficial/side content through SKZ-Player/SKZ-Record on youtube (some of it now having recently -- FINALLY -- been released for official streaming on the SKZ-REPLAY album). I've included many of these, with the specific artist name(s) listed in parentheses.
2] There are a few 3RACHA tracks sprinkled in because SKZ and 3RACHA go hand-in-hand. Remember: 3RACHA are literally the people writing/composing/arranging SKZ's music.
3] Be warned that SKZ sometimes addresses some particularly heavy stuff. Most of the songs in this list are "safe," but the occasional one does include references to/inspiration from mental illness, suicidal ideation/attempts, bullying/violence, despair, etc.
4] Some of these are slow. Some are sweet. Some are fun/silly. Some have fairly significant beats. But they're all ones not generally included in the "OMG Stray Kids just makes noise music! It all sounds like God's Menu/Side Effects/Double Knot/Thunderous!" line of baseless, ignorant complaining.
5] This is not a complete list, just one I made for someone else and have saved and occasionally added to. So it actually would behoove you to get their complete discography/songlist and work your way through every song because _no one_ is going to succeed at recommending every one you should listen to unless they themselves just paste in the entire discography. SKZ doesn't make skippable songs. :

    ° Sunshine
    ° Surfin'
    ° Taste
    ° The View
    ° There
° TMT (this has some of the fastest raps in their discography, but it's so chill that you don't even realize it)
    ° Up All Night (Chan/Changbin/Felix/Seungmin)
    ° Voices
    ° Volcano (Han)
    ° Waiting for Us
    ° Winter Falls
° Wish You Back (Han)(pt 2 of his trilogy)

    ° WOW (3RACHA)
    ° You Can Stay
° You Were Beautiful (cover by Seungmin)
° Young Wings [aka Spread My Wings]
    ° Your Eyes
If you check any of these out, I hope you enjoy discovering the mind-boggling diversity of SKZ's body of music, despite their utterly untrue reputation for only making big, loud, bombastic songs.

  • @RM_formerlyjustRMbutYTsucks
    @RM_formerlyjustRMbutYTsucks ปีที่แล้ว +16

The big changes are because 1) it's meant to depict the disorientation of a maze, and 2) SKZ is well known as being an experimental group because they do things like this -- experiment with effects, flows, beats, and every other sonic element they can play with. Tortoise and the Hare is another of their most experimental pieces, but there's also stuff like Side Effects (psytrance) and My Side (extremely pronounced style changes between parts, as opposed to seamless fluidity). Even songs where they intentionally make things sound alien and removed -- like MIA and Any -- by cranking the autotune up to a million are demonstrations of their enjoyment in playing with sound.

If you'd like a similar song to this one but without the switchups I'd recommend Double Knot. It also has an english version that's really cool in my opinion (english ver also has a dance which is cool).
They also recently dropped a new song for their japanese abum which is kinda rockish so if you like you could check that out! It doesn't have lyrics with the video tho..
Have fun on your stray kids journey!

I recommend if you can just to listen to one of their albums fully to see the range. personally, I’d start with In Life or NoEasy as those were their first couple full length albums, so there’s a little something of everything. Also this song’s structure is suppose to be like a maze in reference of the title. It’s also much older and originated from a rap cypher

All eight rap in this to underline the fact that SKZ all rap. They flex all eight and their great vocals in other songs, again to drive home the "group of all-rounders" truth.
The Korean section is sung by all eight, all of whom of course speak Korean. But the English section is sung by the two English-as-first-language Australians -- Chan/Chris and Felix -- as well as Seungmin, the most English-fluent Korean member. So it's not really a "their language and then English" thing, but more of an "everyone's language, and then the Australians and the honorary American [inside joke] go off" thing. The two Australians are native English speakers, and then of the six Korean members, one is basically fluent (Seungmin, the honorary American-style speaker), two are highly conversational in different ways (Han, with his Malay-British language background; and Hyunjin, the honorary third Aussie), and the other three are functional to varying degrees. There's a higher usage of English in SKZ songs than in most kpop, in part because their lyricas are being written by an English-speaking Australian alongside a conversational-English Korean and a functional-English Korean, both of whom have an ear for slang and bilingual wordplay. And the English in SKZ songs is also more natural and fluid than in most kpop songs, for this same reason -- 25% of the group are native English speakers. (Most fans know Felix basically didn't speak any Korean when he joined the company, but a lot of newer ones don't realize that Chan/Chris was also not fluent and basically spoke Konglish and struggled with speaking Korean.)
Anyway, a quarter of them having English as their native language is also why the English versions of their songs don't sound as...iffy as sometimes happens with other groups trying English songs in kpop. They actually fully understand the language they're translating into, and they're doing it themselves -- wrote the Korean lyrics, interpreted them into English -- rather than relying on outside people. So they're able to preserve meanings, match translated phrasing into the existing rap flows, etc.

  • @valoriec

If you guys want just English songs by skz, you should check out: Youtiful, Super Bowl (not the mv, the mv is in Japanese), DOMINO (English ver), Double knot (English ver), Levanter (English ver), Lose My Breath (just skz ver), SLUMP (English ver), TOP (English Ver). Some of the new songs: Runners, NIGHT (English ver) Falling up (English ver) or just one member of skz: Connected (Bang Chan), Deep end (Felix), Eternity (Bang Chan), Hey you (Hyunjin).

I like these “concept” songs, where the story and words define the music, similar to “the tortoise and the hare”.
If you want to do something inspired by old school hip hop, you should do “Muddy Waters”.
If you want some of their vulnerables ones “sorry, I love you” and “secret, secret” are really good. They have them as recorded live videos.
But react soon to some of their newer stuff! “Case 143”, “Red lights” and the Maxident era stuff. Or just good old “Cheese” and “Easy”😊 just laying it out there…

This is also a song that I don't listen to often. It's creative, different, and good, but not one I just casually listen to. But as others have said The tortoise and the hare is another experimental song. However, that song IS on my playlist. People either love it or hate it though. I'd be interested to see what you guys think!

Woohoo!!!! Love waking up and finding a new SKZ reaction! If you want different, I'd suggest "Tortoise and the Hare" "Side Effects" "3rd Eye" or by 3Racha (their production line) "HeyDay"

You should react to the lyric video for Slash - it’s on the OST for Deadpool & Wolverine and I think it’s one of their best songs of all time.

A couple of tracks that I think you might love, coming from completely different tacks, are "Sorry I Love You" (th-cam.com/video/AsBU3IUTHZw/w-d-xo.html), and throwing right back to their first album, "Awaken" (th-cam.com/video/Ts3H4H-3KXM/w-d-xo.html).
The former may give Kyle some of what he was hankering for here regarding a change of pace... and I think he might like the latter for other reasons... 😜

These are songs that I feel have the most 'rock' sound to them. Some of them are b-sides so they won't have MV's and a lot of them are older. SKZ has never really had one specific sound so it's hard to narrow them down to one genre but I hope you like these!
The Sound (MV) Brand new release
    Cheese (MV)
Beware (also known as Grr) (MV)
    YAYAYA
    Awaken
    My Pace (MV)
    Slump
    Time Out (MV)
    Chronosaurus
Here's a couple more that I didn't feel were truly what you were looking for but you might like, mostly songs that had guitar/rock elements.
    Domino
    Boxer (MV)
    Hellevator (Predebut MV)
    Voices (MV)
    Wolfgang
    Hello Stranger (MV)
ROCK (MV ....Ironically not a rock song)
Thank you so much for your reactions! I love watching people slowly become invested with SKZ.

For me those beat switches feels like maze too, maybe they're trying to represent it like that? Cuz, those switches comes constantly and unexpectedly, so it doesn't give u time to relax before other switchup which may feel uncomfortable, confusing and even frustrading for some people.(like they're in the maze) For me personally I love those switchups, they bring me so much joy👌+ here's a recommentation for you 🤗 now that u have listened maze of memories, you should definetly check skz other experimental track: the tortoise and the hare 😁! lastly thank you for the reaction & have a good day🤗 (english isn't my native language, but I hope u understand what am trying to tell😂)

  • @cassc23

If you want less hype more emotional with less switch ups check out the 3 Japanese first take songs...they're also live!
If you want something more like this go 'tortoise and the hare' or 3rachas 'Hey Day'
It doesn't matter to me what you watch from skz cause I seem to find none of their songs are skips, they're all great in their own way!
