    Wrestling with the big issues, asking the big questions. Thanks, Jacob. My thoughts have been provoked.

    Agree, we need to maintain hermeneutical humility.

    Idk if they just want us to buy the book to get the answers they're not giving here (which is not a great strategy) but it seems to me that this "new quest" is a quest just for the sake of it. For the sake of doing something different even if past quests have given very reliable results.🤷🏾‍♂️

    Its nearly 2025 and we're still on a quest to find this guy 😂
    Are we still looking for big foot too?

      I cannot, one of the guests was having the issue. The one with the issues is the that needs to fix it, I cannot fix it after the fact.

    The quest for the historical Jesus is a bit like alcoholism, it will rob you of valuable time in your life.

    • @rasunsoter
      @rasunsoter 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      He never existed. People can’t stand that fact, and long to falsify it.

    • @eximusic
      @eximusic 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      @@rasunsoter I think that's a strong probability, but not enough information to prove that either.

    • @rasunsoter
      @rasunsoter วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@eximusic I’ve been researching ancient texts such as Vergil’s Aeneid, Plato, Josephus, Tacitus, Suetonius, Hesiod, Cicero, and Euripides. Studying these texts illuminates the fact that absolutely nothing is original to Christianity. It’s all borrowed and repackaged mythology.

    • @eximusic
      @eximusic วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@rasunsoter Virgil, Josephus, Tacitus, Suetonius, Cicero writings are all after Jesus supposed life. Plato and Euripides centuries before that time. Are you saying Christianity is influenced by predecessors, contemporaries, and those coming after?

    • @spuri0us
      @spuri0us วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      @@rasunsoter Ironically, the historical Jesus becomes a much more interesting object of study if he didn't exist as a flesh and blood human being. If he was 100% celestial, then the thinking of Paul, Clement, Hebrews et cetera is genuine insight into what 1st century believers thought about the 'Palestinian Osiris'. If there was an actual guy back there, Paul and the Gospels are in practical terms not sources of information but a gigantic Christological barrier between scholars and the object of study.

    Is it just me or are all their answers just contentless, meaningless drivel? Like did they actually answer a single question? Did we learn a single answer? No shade on you Jacob, excellent interview on your part as always but man some people really know how to talk without actually saying anything.

    • @dissatisfiedphilosophy
      @dissatisfiedphilosophy วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yep. There's a great recent text on the metaphysics of the Historical Jesus Quest which pinpoints exactly that all these "questers" begin from a naturalistic basis with zero justification as to why. I, an Orthodox Christian, am going into NT studies and I fully intend to participate in (what will be) the Fourth Quest and I fully intend on being open to non-naturalistic presuppositions.

    • @Mercury-Wells
      @Mercury-Wells วันที่ผ่านมา

    • @dissatisfiedphilosophy
      @dissatisfiedphilosophy วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@Mercury-Wells Sure. Simply defined it’s the disallowance of any occurrence that could violate what are colloquially called the scientific laws of the universe.
      I find that one cannot do honest historical work without leaving open *all* possibilities, even those that defy such scientific laws. The refusal to leave this open is nothing but a dogma and an unjustifiable one at that.

    • @Mercury-Wells
      @Mercury-Wells วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @dissatisfiedphilosophy thank you very much for the information.
      So, basically you're leaving open the possibility of miraculous events and explanations for events depicted in the bible? I think that's a great idea.

    Why is nobody paying attention to this study? Chris and James "what study"? There's a lot of hard evidence. The ossuary and inscription is authentic. It has been verified. The James ossuary is valid response "so what"? You wrote a book on the Historical Jesus and know little about the greatest hard evidence of the Historical Jesus. What a joke.

    The James ossuary is authentic. It has been shown to be from the Talpiot Tomb. The ossuary of James son of Joseph brother of Jesus and the ossuary of Jesus son of Joseph both had lead isotopes matching the lead isotopes from Qumran meaning Jesus and James drank the water at Qumran A LOT meaning James and Jesus were influenced by the Essenes the group that wrote the DSS. This is hard scientific evidence. If you're involved with the next quest for the Historical Jesus, start at Talpiot or Qumran.
