I got a pair of these as a gift from a colleague, after testing his "strange earphones" and realizing that they worked very well for me (and I have a significant hearing impairment in my left ear). I tested his and realized that I could hear a lot better - so I figured that it was just tiny speakers in front of the ears. Now, after getting my own Trekz Air, I've realized that they are a premium product and a really, really good one. After playing around with it for a few days, I can now listen to music again (without having the listening experience destroyed by the bad left ear). I can enjoy stereo recordings again. I can wear them all day, and still hear sounds around me. It is simply amazing, I had no idea that bone conduction existed in consumer products and that they work so well even for higher frequencies. In short: I've become a huge Aftershokz fan, signed my 2-year guarantee and will very likely use them every day. As a headset for phone calls, as an alternative "headphone" for music, for listening to radio and for being able to work and handle a phone call at the same time. So, if the Aftershokz people see this: I am no adventurer. No sports guy. Not even any especially active person. I'm just an average guy with a hearing loss, who have found your product by random - and realized that it gave me my music listening (and production!) abilities back after many silent years. Thank you. THANK YOU! Best wishes from Sweden, the most northern part, a few miles north of the Arctic Circle. Consider me a fan. expect some everyday photos - and expect me to promote bone conduction headsets from you for colleagues, other musicians and for pretty much everyone who has ever complained about the cons of in-ear headphones. Thank. You. Again and again! You (literally) rock!
Someone else commented earlier with a hearing impairment and said the Trekz is a great solution for them. I'll have to see if they work for my mom, she lost hearing in one of her ears from a brain tumor some years ago. Thanks for sharing ✌️
Andreas Viklund I’m hearing impaired also, as well as legally blind, I have a super old pair of bluez that are so beat up that they are held together with black duct tape!
I wanted to give my own "recent" review for those who might be trying these out for the first time currently (2019). Something more recent for those who would come to this video for a review as I think an update would be nice and I feel like this is a decent review in general to watch... so I have been using these now for 5 or so days almost straight through my day each day. these headphones are NOT for ppl who are audiophiles (which I am not). if the full sound of your music/audio is what you want with noise cancellation then don't shop these. You will be disappointed. if you are a melomaniac (someone who just loves music in general), or someone who constantly is hearing music in their head, regardless if you have headphones on or not, then these are definitely for you. think of them as a second set of ears for your music/phone, or think of it as your own background music for anywhere you go, only now you don't have to use that part of your mind to generate music constantly freeing up concentration while also allowing you to interact w/the world around you! They are perfect in the office, or when out at a coffee shop, in the car w/other ppl, or shopping, or not super loud restaurants, or wherever it isn't super loud, you'll have your own music coming from a second set of ears. After you get used to this concept and have adjusted your transmitting device's output so you get the best sound quality you're looking for, these become one of the best set of headphones you'll ever own. I am honestly considering buying a second set just so I have another set to listen to while the first set is recharging (I like them that much). I barely notice I have them on my head, the microphones in them seem good as ppl do not complain about thinking I'm on a headset when on a phone call, and they just add the solution that someone is looking for if they'd like their own "background music" on while doing pretty much anything! these are my first bone conduction technology headphones I've ever purchased though I am very familiar to the concept from hearing tests, but I was very hesitant to invest so much in such a headset. I was worried that they'd have to pinch too much on my head making them uncomfortable to wear, but they are not noticeable after a few days. they will kinda "find their own place" to fall into place on your head. be aware from photos online how they generally go on your head, feel free to move them around here or there to try to see if you get better audio conduction and possibly less movement from them, but these are so light in weight I don't think you'll really even notice after a day or two. Just be willing to put forth the time to try to get used to their positioning and how they rest on your head. I am sure many ppl return these by the end of the day of purchase bcz of how different they are. I am sorry they do as they haven't given themselves time to get used to how they work. This is a different concept of listening to music. If you are going to buy these, give them several days to get used to and use them a LOT. They are unnatural at first and your brain will take some time to get used to how to use them, but the fact that I am NOT completely disconnected from the world around me but I still have my own background music through these second set of ears is just phenomenal. there's a bigger niche in the market for these than the manufacturer thinks if ppl just take the time to learn how to use these things. 5 out of 5 stars. I highly recommend these
I totally agree with this review. I've got mine as a gift just this month and Im loving it the first time I used it. I always have ear irritation, especially to buds and headphones so it's hard for me to find the earphones that would fit and lessen my ear problems. My ENT always tells me to stop using earphones, I just couldn't give up easily cos I love listening to music and it helps me do my creative fieldwork, I just limit my use to prevent infections. NOW, this product is a real life saver. Helping me with my problem, it's lightweight and discreet, especially if you have long hair, people won't even notice it. This is really good for everyday use. Also, professionally speaking, in office, it doesn't look rude to my co-workers especially to boss who doesn't like their people wearing earphones while working. 😊
My husband and I both have the Trekz Titanium headsets and absolutely LOVE them. I had to go with the Trekz Titanium Mini pair for a good fit. Picked up The Airs yesterday and gave them a try at the gym today and could barely hear my music. My husband gave them a shot and is also dealing with the same issue with the pair we opened. So far we are not impressed. We haven’t tried the second pair yet so we’re hoping my pair that we opened is faulty. For the short time I used them while running on the treadmill they felt huge on my head tho they are light weight. So far my vote is for the Trekz Titanium and if you have a small head like i do I suggest going with the Trekz Minis.
Funny story: I ordered a new pair of Trekz Air and on the Trekz titanium I saw on the manual you can actually change the EQ settings. Start with your headphones on and music playing Press and hold the Power/Volume+ button and the Volume- button Audrey will say “Equalization Changed”
Two points on the EQ comment. I have the AIR....a) I really don't hear any difference b) There's no way to know what the original default settings are so you just keep cycling over and over. They need an app to adjust manually.
Yeah, the Air has the same thing (I thought he went over that in the video), if you have an EQ running through your app, it doesn't really work well (Spotify has one built into it). Many apps do and it's not even a feature you have access to change
This style head phone is a great option for cyclists who want to listen to music, as well as wear a bike helmet. Over the ear style interfere with the helmet, so has traditionally been a choice of one or the other. The extra safety in being able to hear the environment as well as music, also is a big plus.
The Trekz Air has two EQ settings in them. Press both volume buttons at the same time to toggle the EQ you prefer. That's why you may have heard the volume being slightly lower on the new one. Credit to Techmoan review on this.
Really enjoyed your review. I currently have the titanium and should be receiving my air today. Very cool that they changed the volume buttons to control the phones volume and not the independent headset volume. Hadn't seen that mentioned anywhere else so good to know. I hope they are as light and comfortable as you say. The titanium are already comfortable enough, but if it can get better that'd be good for me. I wear these about 12 hours a day paired with a hearing aid app to help me hear better. 150 may be a bit pricey, but compared to a 1000 dollar hearing aid it's nothing.
Joseph Zuver Let me know how they work out for you! That’s a cool use for the Trekz, and certainly puts the price into perspective. Does the app run on your phone?
Just received them yesterday and I already like them a lot. Noticeably lighter and I personally don't notice much of a difference in volume, but I never really turn it to max anyways cause that can get pretty loud. The hearing aid app is on my phone and its called Petralex. It uses the microphones on the headset as the input noise and amplifies it back over the headphones. With bone conduction this works much better than with a typical earbud setup because your ears also remain unblocked.
I remember it did take a bit of tweaking both on my phone and in app originally. I'm on Android, so i'm not sure if the iOS app has the same feature or not, but i'll try to hook it up to an iPad and see what I can find out for you. I know there are already at least some differences between how the headsets work with the different OS's because the volume buttons on the headset are not synced with the volume on the phone for Android unfortunately.
I have glasses AND hearing aids. Just bought both a set of Titanium's(for phone and computer at home) and Air's (work is paying for Air's for my laptop at work). No results on the Air yet (still waiting on delivery) but the Titanium's work just fine. They sit on top of the hearing ads which is really not noticeable. The combo of all 3 is a bit of a mess to put on and take off, but once in place they sit well. (although I look a little like a cyborg). My hearing aids sound fine and I can hear surrounding noises/talking as well as I could without the headset. Obviously less when music is playing but I can still hear 10x better than ear buds alone. The headset sounds good to me, but I have moderate hearing loss in one ear and major in the other. I am a pretty sure an audiophile would not enjoy them. I would say almost as good as a high quality set of earbuds Used them with my laptop at work (phonecalls, music, etc) and listening to an audiobook in the car without issue. Didnt have to turn up the headset to the point of vibraiton to hear in the car. Noone could hear the headset when I wore it. If the Air's are smaller and lighter, I look forward to the results.
Someone else in these comments said that they use Trekz in PLACE of a hearing aid -- that's pretty cool. I imagine there are different needs depending on your ears, but might be worth looking into. (The other commenter mentioned using an iPhone app with the Trekz.)
I have a pair of the airs, the Apple Air Pods, and Beats Powerbeats 3. The Airs are best for when I go for a walk, bike commute or ride on long bike sportive rides as it doesn’t impede my ability to listen to traffic. They are terrible in gym as they don’t block out background noise of gym music, people talking, etc, and the volume can’t be turned up very loud with vibrating your cheekbones. I primarily use the Powerbeats for gym use, but they block out traffic noise and not well suited for cycling or running. The AirPods are great for around the house making phone calls or playing podcast while futzing around the house, but won’t stay in my ears well enough for running, workouts, or cycling either.
thanks for the review...i bought a pair yesterday....they are so kewl.....mainly because I can hear whats around me, feel connected and play my music...thanks Jeff
I'm finding it to be more than ironic that I'm watching all of these reviews on bone conducting headphones and everyone mentions the ear plugs but no one uses them. Same thing applies to any reviews I read on Amazon and the like where people complain about the sound quality. I'll simplify for people: If you are out and about and need to hear your surroundings, don't wear the earplugs. They won't sound as good, but you won't get flattened by a train either. If you are chilling at home and aren't worried about ambient noise, put in the earplugs. The sound difference is very noticeable. Crisper highs and deeper bass.
I have the original titanium and recently purchased the titanium mini as the battery would only last about 90 mins after 2 years of use. I went with the mini because the shorter headband is a much better fit as it sits closer to the back of my head.
The warranty that Aftershokz has for their headphones is great. My dog chewed up my Treks Titanium headphones and Aftershokz replaced them without me even having to send in the damaged pair. That ended up working to my benefit because the replacement pair (which I call my good pair) ended up getting stolen by a co-worker about a month ago.
I did. The sound is good and it picks up my voice without issue. I use this primarily for phone calls for some weeks now; no complaints from anyone. I do conference calls, for work, and with friends. No complaints of them not hearing me clearly and I can hear them perfectly fine, PLUS my surrounding. I wear this during my Uber rides or when driving. I can clearly hear what's going on and be on the call or listen to podcast or music. Because it isn't isolated, it doesn't distract, like a headphones would.
I have these and I love them. I suggest getting a pair of hero type earplugs that musicians use to block some of the outside noise. They make them sound so much better, the bass really comes through. The good thing about the higher quality earplugs, is they don't muffle outside noise, as they cut all frequencies equally, and depending on how far you insert them in your ear you can still hear what's going on around you. Another use is to be able to listen to music and audiobooks/podcasts at the same time. I pair the Trekz to an Ipod and have a set of Airpods connected to my phone. That way I can mix the two together, and as a bonus the Treks sound better with the airpods in my ears, same affect as the earplugs.
I like to blow people's minds with the Trekz by having them wear them. They always ask, "But aren't they just little speakers near my ear?" and I tell them to plug their ears with their fingers -- and they get LOUDER.
I have the Trekz Air headphones. I cannot use any kind of ear buds as they either fall out, or hurt my ears after a very short period of time. I have used these up to 4 hours straight without any problems at all! I run with them. I wear prescription glasses, with sunglasses OVER the prescription glasses AND a hat, with zero issues. I use them for races. (A lot of races frown on ear buds for safety reasons, but these typically are allowed.)
I am thoroughly enjoying my aeropex & my friend is loving their opencomms . They sound greats & even better if you chose to plug your ears . The calls on both have been crystal clear . I cant hype these enough .
Hey thanks for your review but wanted to comment that what you mentioned about controlling the volume separately on the device versus the actual headphones isn't correct... I have the Trekz titaniums tear it up to my Google pixel 3 and when I adjust the volume on my phone it adjusts the volume and the headphones and the same happens when I use the volume buttons directly on the headphones. So just want to point that out that You actually can control the volume on your phone without a issue.
I completely understand the earplugs and motorcycle connection. I ride a Harley Breakout with V&H Short Shots, earplugs are definitely a needed piece of PP&E!
I've owned these for years now and love them. No wires, the sound is great and i can hear the real world. The tickling he feels usually means he has them very high in volume. If you hit the best spot you don't need them that loud. My hours are crazy so i walk my dogs late at nigh. I no longer have to walk with one ear unplugged to hear any threats or surprises coming near me. Buy them for sure.
@@seansurtz5528 they last me for days between recharging. They can stay charged for months if you don't use them for a while and still be good for days.
I have two questions. 1. How is the microphone quality while making calls? 2. Have you seen any bluetooth issues when your phone is in your pocket or bag/backpack?
I've used the headphones for phone calls a handful of times, including one two-hour podcast. No complaints from the other end on audio quality, but I wasn't able to hear myself. No issues with Bluetooth connection from the headphones, they're good!
I wear knit caps when I run on cold weather which covers my ears and also the back upper base of my neck, how comfortable are these trekz air when you use them with knit caps / hats in general?
I tried tried them on with a knit cap. No problem for me, but if you have the cap over your ears there will be a point where the Trekz transition from under your cap to outside it (at the bottom/back). With a baseball cap, there's zero overlap.
This is a great review man. I use my titanium set everyday it seems, I can tell you have really sorry some time with them yourself. It's nice to see aftershokz made some good design decisions. I love the idea of them not falling in my neck anymore. Plus the volume rocker update is a must. Good job, keep up the good work with the reviews.
Trying to decide between the Titanium and the Air, and it doesn't seem like there's a AUD$60 difference between the two, so I might just go with the Titanium
Really depends on how much you plan to use them I think. IMO, the $60 difference is definitely worth it for the fit and comfort. It's not just the weight, but the shape of the headband on the Air is super good. I forget I'm wearing them. The Titaniums are not bad, but they do start to create pressure on my head just behind my ears, and they don't stay up off of my neck as well as the Airs. Because I use them so much, totally worth it. If you think you'll only use them a bit, you can probably save the money.
Have you messed around with either of the EQ settings? My original Blue2S's had two settings, one cutting the low end for vocals, and one enhancing the low end for music.
Hi, I'm thinking about bying bone conducting headphones but there is one thing I want to know. Can other people sitting next to you hear your music. In your video it seemed that I could hear a little bit.
It's possible, but under most realistic circumstances, no. If you're in a quiet place and max out the volume, people around you can hear a bit. But if you're in a quiet place, you'll probably be listening at lower volume, where bleed is not an issue. I've literally listened to these in bed next to my wife and she can't hear them at the volume I'm using.
I drive a semi truck an i been seeing this in truck stops. Ive had many of blue parrots an im tired of the whole over head deal. Are these good noise cancelling?
Try Z8. I like them much cheaper. Wondering if spending more is worth it. Got mine from wish with discount 26.00 delivered. Might be closer to 38.00...without discount.
So which would you say is better for audiobooks? I feel like I primarily want to be able to listen to my audiobooks at work, but working around horses I need to be able to hear what's going on around me, so I tend to just play music through my phone's speaker so I don't have anything in my ears. Can't listen to my audiobooks cus the sound is softer and I miss big portions of it to noise going on around the barn.
Trekz Air is better for spoken audio than Titanium. Not a huge difference, but the Titanium is a bit bassier, which is IMO worse for understanding human voices.
Thanks for the competent review! I was considering buying the Air but now I'm not sure. I thought one of their improvements was better bass response, but you noted less bass. So that's a major drawback along with lower overall volume.
I haven't tried it, but I don't think it'd fit, and I also think wind noise in a helmet would make it hard to hear the Aftershokz. Though if you're wearing ear plugs, I guess the Aftershokz do get around that.
This is my third pair that have suddenly got stuck on max volume. Unfortunately, they just keep repeating "MAX VOLUME" over & over . I've tried both "reset" options found here on TH-cam but nothing seems to work. Does anyone know how to fix this issue ?
I just saw these on HSN for 89.99 (or 5 payments of 18.99 w/ free shipping) which is almost half the price you paid but I was very skeptical of the performance of the headphones as their presentation couldn't show us the real feel or sound of the headphones. So listening to your review has me more excited to try these out. Though I probably wouldn't give up my other "regular" headphones 😉 These would just be perfect for use in public places! Thanks for this vid!
Yes these are perfect for work for me and the only reason I purchased.. .I bought two from HSN Model AS650 . 6 months ago same price $89 each..I charge both overnight... I ONLY use these at work ..I listen to music all day.... . .so each runs for 5 hrs. I have one charged while using the other..am happy I can listen to music at work so these are perfect for me. I hate having only to use one ear plugged on my other headphones which is allowed. I have other superior headphones better sound quality that I use at my leisure when am not at work. As of now is there another model after the AS650?? ..
In general, bone conduction headphones are earphones with bigger speakers? If you put them, inside your ears, you can still hear the audio right? They don't work only with the bone.
Uh, sort of? Think of them as headphones that, instead of having a speaker grill where the audio comes out, have rubber pads that transmit the audio through your skin+bones. You CAN hear them without them touching your skin, so they're not too different from normal speakers in a headphone. They're just designed to vibrate your face.
Great review and it gave me much information about the Air. I planned to have one, but I would mainly use it in my very quiet office. Could I know how far do other people would not listen any sound from the Air if it is very quiet?
I think you'll be happy with it. There is some audio "leakage" if the Trekz volume is up really high, but when you're listening at 75% volume (or lower) no one around you can hear it. I use Trekz in bed while my wife is sleeping and she can't hear it.
When you are in a crowded area and used trekz air to listen to music do you hear music? Or a phone call? Theres a demo unit near my place but it is very thinny i cant hear the music in a crowded area. But also i think the demo unit is not the final unit because the mic is not working and the volume button is so hard to press. Please send me feedback about the actual unit. Thanks. Im planning to buy this by tomorrow in my place
I think this is a perfect last minute Xmas gift for my newly retired and aging mother, who doesnt listen to music but listens to many podcasts and NPR, and who wanted something wireless but at the same time not "Truly Chordless" (that she would be scared to take them off and accidentally loose), for example like with something like the Apple Airpods, which I was actually just about to buy for her when I luckily stumbled across this review 😲🙏! I'm hoping to order this specidic brand and model! I just have two questions though about these headphones that I'm hoping someone who currently owns these could answer, before I finalize my purchase! 1.) In the video when he demonstrated the sound by playing some music, and the video made it seem like it would be completely audible to people in close proximity to the headphones, is this actually true and would this only happen on the loudest volume setting?Or would the world be always be able to hear what my mom would be playing around her? Basically is the proximity audible to the worls even when using the mid to low volume level!? 2.) About how long is the battery life at say moderate use, and how quick would it usually take for these headphones to receive a full charge!? Thanks for making this review! Im hoping that I can get my quickly get my questions answered by people who either curently own/use the newer model, or are using the cheaper/older model! I'm just hoping my product questions get answered soon! This will be her Xmas gift, and I'm praying that these headphones will ship/arrive in time for Christmas, which is fast approaching!! Anyways the lesson in all this hast to be "never procrastinate on Xmas gifting 😂)! Cheers!
Hey Ryan, some answers based on my experience: 1) No, under most circumstances, people around you will not hear what you're listening to. If you turn them to max volume and you're in a quiet environment, they will hear. But if you're listening at a moderate level relative to the environment, no issues. I wear these to bed sometimes and my wife can't hear what I'm listening to. 2) Battery is rated at 6 hours I think, but I usually get longer, especially if all that use is in a single day. They claim charge time is ~2 hours, which sounds about right to me.
i am looking for a model that is a bit larger for my son, my old Titanium is too small for his head, bummer they seem to leave out people with large heads, thanks.
Good question, and probably depends on the cause of your hearing loss. I don't know much about human physiology, but I imagine bone conduction is still using the same hearing mechanisms inside your ear, but it's moving the vibrations through your bones rather than through the air in your ear. Some people in the comments mentioned using these Trekz for some hearing loss, maybe find those comments and ask them more about it.
I use them primarily for podcasts, so audio books should be great. Only potential issue on a bike is that you'll be moving pretty fast and wind noise may be annoying. But I've definitely used them while cycling (I'm not very fast) and they're solid.
The packaging tape for the headset is actually more functional than he made them seem. He peeled each one open but you're actually just supposed to pull the headset out from the top because the tape pieces are perforated on the front side. He didn't look at it close enough to see that.
I'm confused.. these are meant to be bone conducting only, but your vid shows that i can hear it when you compared the volume with the titanium.. is that right?
Yeah, you can hear them without touching them to your cheek bones -- but they'll get louder if they're touching your cheek bones and you plug your ears 😎
Loudness really depends on how loud surrounding sounds are -- if you're outdoors near traffic, these are not very loud. If you're indoors, these get plenty loud. At max volume, there is definitely some audio bleed, but if you're listening to them at a relatively normal level, people around you won't hear anything.
Thanks for the review, I noticed a lot more noise escaping from the titaniums than the air, were they on a higher volume? Any chance you can measure the difference?
I noticed that too, when editing the video. I did have both headphones set to max volume (louder than I normally listen, it's normally uncommon for them to bleed like that). I think the difference is down to two things. (1) The Titaniums are a bit louder overall. It's a pretty small difference, but in outright volume I'd give them an edge. (2) Trekz advertises that the new Airs leak less. "LeakSlayer™ technology significantly reduces natural sound leakage"
Ah cool, I'm still at a loss which ones to get though tbh, I need some that would survive being grabbed and abused by a 2 year old and that would be comfortable and audible for audio books while cycling on roads while commuting, but also be good for using at work. I just don't know...
I think both of them will suit your stated needs. I like the sound quality on the Air better, but it's not a huge difference AND the difference matters even less for spoken audio (versus music). For me, the big gain with the Air is better comfort for wearing all day. I forget they're on my head. With the Titaniums, you can get used to them, but they don't disappear on your head the same way.
It's pretty common, yeah. Wind noise on the freeway can causing hearing damage over the years. You can still hear things. It's like the difference between driving a car on the freeway with the windows down and then rolling them up. You still hear sirens, horns, and vehicles passing, but you don't hear a torrent of wind noise deafening you.
I think someone said its a whole new experience plus increase the bass sound use the ear plugs with it. Look up how to insert ear plug first. Been using ear plugs wrong my whole life.
I just got a set of titanium and after using them for a shift of factory noise I found that loud noises immediately drown out the sound. If you use them in conjunction with earplugs, the volume of the music/podcast nearly doubles while the background noise is eliminated. With earplugs in, I was able to stand next to a loud machine and clearly hear a podcast with the volume at a moderate level.
Call volume is good. But do keep in mind that with bone conduction, the headphones have to compete with sound from the outside world -- they don't isolate at all.
I just subed to your channel I really like the way you review you go over many things the same way I do I'll be watching your reviews from now on , keep up the good work , I hope you get tons more subs so companies start sending you products to review , good luck and keep the channel growing your one of the good ones
HEY, thanks for the review! Where I'm at, it's COLD right now. Do these fit well underneath a hat/headband? Or does it hurt/fatigue your head after a while? Any input would be great, thank you!
Super* Review thanks. Yeah, it's the beanie I'm looking at, due to the winter. Went running in 9°temp yesterday, so I actually needed a Ninja mask/balaclava. So I didn't know if it pressed a lot on your ears and temples. I guess not on the ears, cuz it doesn't go on there. Did you find these to fatigue your head at all?
Quick question.. So when you were testing the volume on them, I could hear the song you were playing. Did you add that into your video or will others be able to hear what you're listening to when you use them?
Super* Review thank you for the quick reply, much appreciated! I personally do tend to listen to my music quite loud and I have a pair coming but I'm hoping that with the conduction I won't have to turn it up as loud as I do with earbuds
Good review overall but beyond that you actively compared the air with the titanium, which is what I needed. Every difference you hit on is one of my complaints about the older version. As much as I enjoyed it, the only way I would put out that kind of money again is if they fixed those things, and it sounds like they did for the most part. This works reeeaaally well with a smart watch like the galaxy gear s2 that didn't have a mic.
It's likely that a mower would drown out the sound from these, unless you're also wearing earplugs. You can 100% wear earplugs and listen to bone conduction still -- in fact, sound gets louder with ear plugs :P
I am from aftershokz, and happy our product did something for you
Andreas Viklund I’m hearing impaired also, as well as legally blind, I have a super old pair of bluez that are so beat up that they are held together with black duct tape!
Is that treks titanium mini?
I have hearing loss in my right ear and I agree! I can even use these with my hearing aid and it sounds so good!! Honestly incredible
I love strangers sneaking up behind me, this may he a deal breaker for me

this is the exact review i wanted, i comparison from the old model to see if they were any big difference or fall backs, thanks!
I already had Titanium, and it's nice to see a review that compares Air to it's predecessor.
I highly recommend these
Yeah man, they're like having background music playing everywhere you go.
Better luck with 2nd pair?
Funny story: I ordered a new pair of Trekz Air and on the Trekz titanium I saw on the manual you can actually change the EQ settings.
Start with your headphones on and music playing
Press and hold the Power/Volume+ button and the Volume- button
Audrey will say “Equalization Changed”
Tim Lewis yeah but I bet wind noise drowns out any music.
Great review, just bought mine today, love them!
The Trekz Air has two EQ settings in them. Press both volume buttons at the same time to toggle the EQ you prefer. That's why you may have heard the volume being slightly lower on the new one. Credit to Techmoan review on this.
Thanks for the tip, but nah, I didn't enable that. Heads up: There's a new Aftershokz I just got 👀
Most important question is, how long does the battery last?
The Aftershokz bone conduction works very well. I'd like a style that doesn't wrap around the back.
Very cool. I downloaded the Petralex app on iPhone, not able to get it to use the microphone on the Trekz. You ever have that?
I remember it did take a bit of tweaking both on my phone and in app originally. I'm on Android, so i'm not sure if the iOS app has the same feature or not, but i'll try to hook it up to an iPad and see what I can find out for you. I know there are already at least some differences between how the headsets work with the different OS's because the volume buttons on the headset are not synced with the volume on the phone for Android unfortunately.
So 7 months later, were the Aftershokz Air more comfortable than the Titanium?
How did the Air fit on your head with your glasses? Wearing both my glasses and Titanium hurts my head after a few hours.
Hello, can you use it for receiving calls, but if you want you can mute your microphone for example in zoom and use the pc's microphone?
I wonder if it's possible to make a headphone that works well in all situations. I'm like you, I use different headphones for different situations.
Thx 4 sharing. Really gr8 perspective
Was wondering how this would fare for gym use. Thanks for this comment
thanks for the review...i bought a pair yesterday....they are so kewl.....mainly because I can hear whats around me, feel connected and play my music...thanks Jeff
Audibly, on the video the titanium had more bleed but that may have been based off of volume
I'm finding it to be more than ironic that I'm watching all of these reviews on bone conducting headphones and everyone mentions the ear plugs but no one uses them. Same thing applies to any reviews I read on Amazon and the like where people complain about the sound quality.
I'll simplify for people:
If you are out and about and need to hear your surroundings, don't wear the earplugs. They won't sound as good, but you won't get flattened by a train either.
If you are chilling at home and aren't worried about ambient noise, put in the earplugs. The sound difference is very noticeable. Crisper highs and deeper bass.
Not sure why but you totally remind me of Charlie from "It's always sunny in Philadelphia". Great vid man!
No one comments on phone calls how far away can you be from your phone before you loose signal there not only used for music are they
I have the original titanium and recently purchased the titanium mini as the battery would only last about 90 mins after 2 years of use. I went with the mini because the shorter headband is a much better fit as it sits closer to the back of my head.
Oh interesting, didn't know about the Mini.
The warranty that Aftershokz has for their headphones is great. My dog chewed up my Treks Titanium headphones and Aftershokz replaced them without me even having to send in the damaged pair. That ended up working to my benefit because the replacement pair (which I call my good pair) ended up getting stolen by a co-worker about a month ago.
did you get it back?
how come no one makes a phone call or talk about how it is to place a call n how it sounds?
Can't wait to see your Aeropex review. A comparison to the Air would be good to see if it's worth upgrading or just keep the Air. Thanks!!!
Workin' on it.
Yeah, I honestly forget that I'm wearing them and people give me funny looks. That's a good thing.
I am thoroughly enjoying my aeropex & my friend is loving their opencomms . They sound greats & even better if you chose to plug your ears . The calls on both have been crystal clear . I cant hype these enough .
They are indeed awesome.
Maybe on Android -- on iOS, 100% the volume is separate on my Trekz Titanium.
I completely understand the earplugs and motorcycle connection. I ride a Harley Breakout with V&H Short Shots, earplugs are definitely a needed piece of PP&E!
For me, ear plugs are mostly for wind noise, not bike noise.
Can we get some new reviews from bone conduction headphones/earbuds?
There's not much newer. I reviewed the Aeropex already.
Just picked these up today at the mall and I love them.
Anyway, great video dude. Definitely keep it up and I subscribed.
Thank you
Does the Trekz Air have the triple tap to rewind? Or no?
Mine doesn't, but it seems like newer ones do.
@@SuperReview ok no problem. Thank you
@@SuperReview the Trekz Air actually does have this feature. I have to triple tap very fast for it to work
I wear knit caps when I run on cold weather which covers my ears and also the back upper base of my neck, how comfortable are these trekz air when you use them with knit caps / hats in general?
I tried tried them on with a knit cap. No problem for me, but if you have the cap over your ears there will be a point where the Trekz transition from under your cap to outside it (at the bottom/back). With a baseball cap, there's zero overlap.
I see the company has changed the names on their current models, what would be compatible to these you reviewed
I am working on a new video to compare the main models, soon.
How does it fit with eyeglasses?
I don't wear glasses, but my wife does. She says the new Airs fit much better with glasses than the original Titaniums.
I just purchased the Titanium and i wear glasses. They hurt. So i think i'll try the Air. Thanx for asking the question and reply.
emi Underwood : no problem with eyglasses for me
I'm ordering the Canyon Red on Amazon, they are selling for $120.00. What I'm looking for when I go trail riding on my bike. Thanks!
These + smartphone = ultimate podcast listening setup
Only once, and it sounded bad to me so I switched it back.
Thank you for the review. Just what I needed
are they really bone conduction? i think they are small speakers hanging around ear.
Do you have them? Try plugging your ears when you wear them. They get LOUDER.
This Model is AS650...is there another Model after this??
Not as far as I know.
I drive a semi truck an i been seeing this in truck stops. Ive had many of blue parrots an im tired of the whole over head deal. Are these good noise cancelling?
By noise canceling, do you mean for the microphone?
i just got this in the mail today and it works
Well that's a relief!
Try Z8. I like them much cheaper. Wondering if spending more is worth it.
Got mine from wish with discount 26.00 delivered. Might be closer to 38.00...without discount.
They look decent, are they loud enough to wear outdoors?
So which would you say is better for audiobooks?
I feel like I primarily want to be able to listen to my audiobooks at work, but working around horses I need to be able to hear what's going on around me, so I tend to just play music through my phone's speaker so I don't have anything in my ears. Can't listen to my audiobooks cus the sound is softer and I miss big portions of it to noise going on around the barn.
Trekz Air is better for spoken audio than Titanium. Not a huge difference, but the Titanium is a bit bassier, which is IMO worse for understanding human voices.
Good Review @ 0:42 funny thing same thing happened to me and I'm not sure whether I should buy the new ones now or wait .
Thanks for the competent review! I was considering buying the Air but now I'm not sure. I thought one of their improvements was better bass response, but you noted less bass. So that's a major drawback along with lower overall volume.
Interested in noise bleeding ? Can people hear them ?
Only if you have them very loud.
Have you ever tried to wear these with your motorcycle helmet? Kinda curious if a helmet would fit over them.
What do you connect them to? I've owned a bunch of different Aftershokz, haven't run into that issue.
I kept thinking... "Is it weird that the guy on the box looks just like the guy in the video???"
I'm gonna start putting my picture on the box of everything I review.
Though I probably wouldn't give up my other "regular" headphones 😉
These would just be perfect for use in public places!
As of now is there another model after the AS650??
..
Can people with tinnitus use them Michael Fleming
Dunno.
@@SuperReview your not helpful
Super* Review thanks a lot for your reply, I would buy it. You are so professional for product review!
Cheers!
Hey Ryan, some answers based on my experience:
1) No, under most circumstances, people around you will not hear what you're listening to.
They claim charge time is ~2 hours, which sounds about right to me.
are the Trekz Air a little larger than the Titanium
Hm, I wouldn't say they seem any larger. Definitely thinner and lighter.
i am looking for a model that is a bit larger for my son, my old Titanium is too small for his head, bummer they seem to leave out people with large heads, thanks.
I have no hearing in my left ear at all. Would these allow me to mimic hearing music in my left again?
Good question, and probably depends on the cause of your hearing loss. I don't know much about human physiology, but I imagine bone conduction is still using the same hearing mechanisms inside your ear, but it's moving the vibrations through your bones rather than through the air in your ear.
Some people in the comments mentioned using these Trekz for some hearing loss, maybe find those comments and ask them more about it.
Wonder is this one best for hearing impaired people and is it really loud? Let me know Thanks!
There are different kinds of hearing impairments, probably works for some. Some other comments in this thread talk about it.
What about listening on audiobooks on them if you're riding your bike?
I use them primarily for podcasts, so audio books should be great. Only potential issue on a bike is that you'll be moving pretty fast and wind noise may be annoying. But I've definitely used them while cycling (I'm not very fast) and they're solid.
The packaging tape for the headset is actually more functional than he made them seem. He peeled each one open but you're actually just supposed to pull the headset out from the top because the tape pieces are perforated on the front side. He didn't look at it close enough to see that.
Melissa Epps How much time does it save?
Super* Review it took me maybe 1 second each to break each seal.
Is there any latency/ delay of audio between the video and sound?
Yeah, there is. I'd say latency on these is "moderate."
Thanks
I just got these as a birthday gift and I was watching this video with them
You like 'em?
Super* Review yeah they are great!!
I was wondering how well they fit under a motorcycle helmet?
I don't think they would -- I haven't tried, I'm always afraid I'm going to put on my helmet and not be able to get it off :P
How loud is the music compared to in-ear headphones?
Does the audio leak like when on full volume?
Loudness really depends on how loud surrounding sounds are -- if you're outdoors near traffic, these are not very loud. If you're indoors, these get plenty loud. At max volume, there is definitely some audio bleed, but if you're listening to them at a relatively normal level, people around you won't hear anything.
@@SuperReview Thanks For the comment and review I'll be buying these soon !
Great video! Do you still find yourself using them today? How did they hold up long term?
No joke, I have like 30 pairs of headphones now, and the Trekz Air are my #1 pair. Use them all the time, love them so much.
@@SuperReview Thanks dude! I will go get a pair -- solid endorsement!
3:25 Is it safe or normal to wear earplugs while driving a motorcycle?
It's pretty common, yeah. Wind noise on the freeway can causing hearing damage over the years. You can still hear things. It's like the difference between driving a car on the freeway with the windows down and then rolling them up. You still hear sirens, horns, and vehicles passing, but you don't hear a torrent of wind noise deafening you.
I think someone said its a whole new experience plus increase the bass sound use the ear plugs with it. Look up how to insert ear plug first. Been using ear plugs wrong my whole life.
Sounds about right. I wear ear plugs often, but not with Aftershokz.
They dont seem to work well on multi phone mode... it keeps dropping the iphone off?? Any advise?
Really like it otherwise..
Dunno, I use mine with iPhone + Mac and works pretty well. Sometimes it's awkward to get it to switch.
Super* Review i actually return the first one... just got a new one, but same thing... gettin frustrated now
I'm guessing the bass is weak.
How spatial sound on the mix of the audio?
It kinda sounds like it's around you, since your ears are not plugged.
Thank you...
I work in a factory n am wondering if I'd even be able to hear the music.
Might not, depending on how much sound they have to contend with. I have to turn them to max volume if I'm walking by heavy traffic.
Can you use them to talk on the phone?
Yeah.
Im in manufacturing which requires me to wear earplugs, i had the original for 2 years and work perfect for my line of work
I just upgraded to the titanium
I want sound bleed reviewed
You're welcome.
Thanks for the test!
How do they work when you ride your motorcycle?
They wouldn't fit under a helmet.
Thanks!
Does the old one also comes with earplugs?
Yes.
FYI, you can get a pair of earplugs for like 20 cents at a hardware store.
what about sony ear duo and sony wired STH40D please? compare them?
Interesting, I hadn't heard of those before. Might not be sold in the US.
I want to by these for my wife primary for phone calls around the house. Is call volume good on these?
Call volume is good. But do keep in mind that with bone conduction, the headphones have to compete with sound from the outside world -- they don't isolate at all.
Do they feel uncomfortable after maybe one hour or more?
Nope! I literally forget I'm wearing them and people look at me funny.
I wear them with a baseball cap all the time, no problem. They also seem to fit well with a beanie, but I haven't worn them together for a long time.
Not the new Airs! The older model does fatigue a bit.
THANKS! leaning towards those. Looks like you work out a lot, do you have a favorite workout headphones? running headphones? These it?
What color are your Trekz Air headphones?
Gray.
@@SuperReview Thank you!
Quick question..
So when you were testing the volume on them, I could hear the song you were playing. Did you add that into your video or will others be able to hear what you're listening to when you use them?
I didn't add the sound, no. They do bleed sound, but it's only really noticeable when the sound is maxed out. In normal use for me, it's not an issue.
Super* Review thank you for the quick reply, much appreciated! I personally do tend to listen to my music quite loud and I have a pair coming but I'm hoping that with the conduction I won't have to turn it up as loud as I do with earbuds
These are good headphones backed by an excellent review.
What about these compared to the mini’s?
KingGene I've never tried the minis.
It's been a year plus since this review .....do the headphones still hold the original 5 star rating you gave them? 🤔
If I could give them 6 stars, I would. I use them almost every day :)
How about BATTERIES? how do you charge it?
It charges with a Micro USB cable. (I love these things.)
Can you wear any types of glasses with these?
I dunno about any, but I wear sunglasses with them often, and my wife also uses Trekz Air and she wears regular eyeglasses.
Got them for sponsorship of doing the coast to coast whiteheaven to Sunderland
Do they have a mic for voice calls?
Yes. They're pretty good for calls + teleconferencing IMO.
Yeah, the Titaniums are great, but the Airs are nearly perfect. I have them around my neck or on my head for dozens of hours each week.
Has anyone used these to cut grass or doing anything loud while wearing these. I'm looking to get a pair for this reason. Can anyone help me?
It's likely that a mower would drown out the sound from these, unless you're also wearing earplugs. You can 100% wear earplugs and listen to bone conduction still -- in fact, sound gets louder with ear plugs :P
Thank you
