I have my hot pink Goni as my YT channel icon - it has been doing very well, along with my neon green Goni with very long lashes on each polyp. I think of turbid water as what happens when I fluff my sandbed with a turkey baster - the water gets clouded with all the tiny particles from the sand, which I’m sure must include food sources for both Gonis and also euphyllia. I do this a few times per week and they’ve been thriving! Excellent video - I always wondered both what their growth pattern is, and how to frag them (no plans to do so though 😁). 👍🏻👍🏻
Hello from the US. Hope you guys are ok with the fires? Haven't seen any new videos and you (and the shop) have been on my mind. Hope everyone is safe.
Terri McCullough Hi Terri, Thank you for expressing your concern. The situation here for many people and multitudes of wildlife populations is truly devastating and incredibly heart breaking. We are incredibly grateful that Brisbane - the city we live in has remained safe from direct fire threat, suffering only on occasion from polluted air. We are in awe of the efforts of all those heroic fire fighters on the front line fighting so hard to protect what they still can, everyone donating whatever they can to help and are trying to remain hopeful for rainfall to provide some much needed reprieve for the areas affected. 🙏🤞
Very in formative learnt so much from watching this thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. Is it possible to frag a deshy? If so would you video doing one? I am curious that's all.🐠🐟🦀
Exelente, normalmente no entiendo nada de lo que dicen, pero me gustan los vídeos, y este fue exelente deberían de hacer más vídeos así de diferentes corales
Do you frag anemones? I just saw a video of a bubble tip being fragged and that looks tortuous. So brutal. You are always so informative and enjoyable to learn from.
Dallas Storm hi 👋 thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Great question. We haven’t found a need to Frag anemones regularly as thankfully the best looking one we have tends to multiply regularly just from being lovingly cared for 😊 Have fragged them once for a demonstration and it was a total success; tips include ensuring the knife (cleaver) used was large, sharp; I cut through the mouth (and foot) evenly twice to make four pieces and placed the pieces into iodine dip then our custom made Ricordea “hospitals” onto porcelain tiles.
Can you please do a video about "Is it safe to keep a reef tank with kids?"? I just got into the hobby, but I have a young toddler and I am very much worried about palytoxins and other issues. Thanks in advance!
HCBCHEMISTRYoCOM thank you for your encouraging and positive words! :) One day, undoubtedly Glitter Goni will turn up on the USA export scene ;) It takes a keen eye and or macro shot to identify one. Just to quantify the reality of its rarity; We have probably personally seen 5 or less wild pieces come through in the 20 years we (Cameron and I) have been working in the Aquarium hobby here in Australia. Ania
@@GalleryAquaticaTV hey, I know you don't know me. But save me a frag of your mother for the future. You will know me in time. Even if I have to show up personally. What ever it takes. I want one of those frags for the Interstellar Oceans Project. Please and thank you.
HCBCHEMISTRYoCOM there are a few different Americans who come visit from USA to ReefStock Australia in Sydney. It might be a possible avenue to have stock exported in the future via one of our wholesalers who hold the export permit.
@@GalleryAquaticaTV how can I contact these people. I'm starting a big project. Eventually everyone is going to know about it. And I want to have rare corals only.
HCBCHEMISTRYoCOM wholesalers who export sell to wholesalers. If you are a retailer etc with the appropriate approved accounts you should be able to purchase directly from US wholesalers who import from Australia ie. places in LA like Unique Corals, Sea Dwelling Creatures ... World Wide corals etc are just a few names I know which are supplied by Aussie Wholesalers (but surely there are many many options, am not sure who best to contact in California sorry). Ania
I noticed you dip for a really short period of time... I was wondering if this is all its required, coral rx asks for the coral to be dipped 5-10 mins and sometimes pests dont release straight away.... so do you use a higher concentration? Also same with iodine dip, seemed like a really short dip, is the concentration high?
I recently saw for my very first time this sparkling glitter goniopora. I am in the hobby since 2017. It seems to be that they don't export quite often to europe? How long is this species of goniopora in the hobby? Currently there are some frags offered in a dutch webshop for 149€ for round about 15 heads. What do you thing, if the corals overprice in the moment and we have to wait? Or will be the price change in future not so much?
Christian hi, thank you so much for watching and asking these fantastic questions. We have only really ever seen a small handful of pieces come through over the 5 years we have had Gallery Aquatica- and never ever before that (Cam and I both started working in Aquariums since 1998). It takes a keen eye to spot a true glitter and also there are different degrees of glittering within the variant . Importantly , the glittering occurs on both the polyp face AND stems. These are SUPER rare. Maybe all in all have only had a handful ever come through, ever. They have never been viable to be sold under three figures here. Conversion to pounds is about double Australian so I do understand $300 a frag is high! You want to ensure you have a stable, well established system or invest that kind of money on cool piece. That is why we are so keen to focus aquaculture and propagation efforts on these kinds of rare colours versus the more commonly found (and cheaper) varieties.
MY polyps on my goni are super present, but they just aren't reaching out yet.....how long from when they were introcued until they should be showing this behaviour before i start lookingg into placement?
Every species is going to vary regarding how long the polyps actually are. There are also some Goniopora which only have shorter polyps. Flow and light plays an important role. First up,. I would first check and try the KH raise trick.
Bahama Llama Coral thank you for expressing concern. The situation is so devastating tragic for many many Aussie people and an extraordinary number of wildlife. We are so grateful that at this stage Brisbane - our city - is not in any direct risk zone. Our heart goes out to those fighting on the front line and we hope for more rain to provide much needed reprieve for the areas which are less fortunate than ours . There are numerous organisations set up for donations which will undoubtedly all be of great help now and of course once the communities are ready to rebuild. 🙏
Hi from Halifax, Canada Ania. I have a goni question. I am losing polyps on my goni frags, two are completely gone and two other are also dying. I think it is brown jelly that is doing this and it is moving from frag to frag. I have dipped the two currently dying in an iodine bath and twice in a hydrogen peroxide bath. I think I may have stopped it with the last bath which I used a higher concentration than the previous dip. Any tips on beating this once it gets into your system. I assume I picked it up on the first frag that died and since it has moved onto a second and then two others. It only seems to be the goni that is affected. My frag system is 200gal, it is two 80 gal seapora 48*24*16 reef ready tanks and 80 gal aquarium being used as a sump. The system has UV.
Hi John, Thanks for the question and so sorry to hear what you’re going through. Those dips would have definitely both been of Great Benefit in oxidising and removing necrotic tissue alongside disinfecting to prevent further spread. First up, I would also have prioritised the dip. In truth , I have thankfully never had to see or deal with brown jelly disease, but if faced with it I would have done exactly the same thing. Then I be double checking the parameters, prioritising the basics - salt, pH but particularly KH. Sending a sample away for a Triton ICP and NDOC would be really interesting, though the results and analysis may take time to obtain. Also, I think back to advice given to me from Goniopora expert Justin Credable who developed TLF Goniopower. He suggested to succeed “Goniopora should be treated like Acropora with long polyps” and also advised if they aren’t opening, even after trying a dip, that they may bounce back from an elevation in KH up to about 1dkH. His advice has always worked for me. Let me know what happens with yours! Ania
Marcel Rodriguez that is such a shame to hear. Do you target feed? Have you tried TLF Goniopower ? My next tricks to get them to open is dip to ensure they aren’t covered by a bacterial microfilm, then raise KH by 1 dKH unit. (This advice is from Justin the actual pro)
@@GalleryAquaticaTV i do try to target feed with reefroids but to no effect, i also add some amino acid to the aquarium in small amounts and nothing either. I do notice that in the night they extend a bit but barely. I will try goniopower to see.
