I now see what Eddie saw. He looks fit and strong but the way he moves is incredible, he glides effortlessly, and always forward. The other two huge positives for me were that the slick pass and move was back, albeit in short spells, for the fitst time in a while. Lastly, the first time Gordon has convinced me he wants to be here. He was full of intent tonight. Brilliant!
Not sure what you were watching. We were sloppy on the ball again-a fact that Howe himself highlighted, and Gordon was poor again aside from that one shot he had he done very little. Tonali was excellent though.
Tonali’s performance described with aplomb. Such grace and vision yet powerful, quite a rare combination. If he can maintain that inspiration throughout the season then he can elevate the team to the level we all want.
I really hope that we DON'T deal with Crystal Palace - to cup tie a player they want £70m for shows their true motives, and that's to humiliate our club. We need to leave this one.
@@RaseYourProbsI think they're very short sighted he isn't signing a new contract with them and will leave on a free if they don't cash in now his value is only going to drop
Was really excited to see Tonali in the starting line up, he looked as you say free, a heavy weight lifted from a young guys shoulders. What did we see, pace, power, crisp passing. Lot more to come as the match fitness returns, as most have said he’s like a brand new signing. I hope the news on Willock isn’t too serious, he looked genuinely upset going off, he gives us a driving energy we sadly missed last season. Fingers crossed for the lad.
Willock's short cameo highlighted what we really need in midfield, someone who can run at pace with the ball. From the moment he went off we looked pedestrian.
You're spot on Craig. I don't think we can emphasize enough, how good a performance that was from Tonali. Ten months out and he comes back and dominates like he did. He has this authority that no other player, even Bruno displays. So many facets to his game that the team has been missing. Great stuff!
his first time passing was outstanding, he was the only player on that pitch that had the confidance to try the dangerous passes. he's only going to get better.
Great vid Craig mate what a game we played tonight against forest so happy we are through to the next round & a nice favourable draw as well against afc Wimbledon away but we’ll take it also great to have Sandro back as well tonight after his ten month ban now he is 🔥 up for this season ahead HWTL ⚫️⚪️👍🏻
It is so good to have Sandro back he was brilliant tonight man can't wait to see him play in the Premier League. By the way great interview he said all the right things!
Sorry for Joe Willock he gives his all and helps with the overall rhythm of the team which was lost as soon as he went off cannot wait to see a match fit Sandro Tonali !, great video Craig !
Sandro looks like a rolls Royce of a midfielder quite emotional seeing him with the fans at the end of the game there lets hope this is just the start.
Sandro was the breath of fresh air we needed, would have liked to see him remain in the middle when Bruno had to come on. Poor Willock gutted great player but like Wilson their made of glass. We never really kicked on after the goal for large parts it was Bournemouth away levels. Isak looked isolated for large parts. I hope Geuhi doesn't come in and they pull two rabbits out the hat no one was expecting. So far we've not seen a familiar NUFC performance maybe that will come on Sunday.
Something very strange about the team at the moment. A professional footballer can’t be so rusty he can’t make a simple pass. Or in isaks case be nowhere to be seen when going forward. Gordon was better than last game, he was woeful in last game. And he’s such a brilliant player for us normally. Tonali was a different class. He was genuinely touched by the fans at the end and it was beautiful to watch. I think he’s gonna end up being a Newcastle legend for sure. Dan burn was class. Such a shame about willock. He changes us as a team when he’s on it and takes us up a few gears in terms of our attack and countering. Long way to go for us to get back to our past form
Sooo wrong Bruno joelinton and Gordon obviously showing lack of proper break over the summer - win v spurs international break - snd then they need to be in the groove September
Totally agree ,Williocks injury is a real sickener for us but for him it has to be a worry if he will ever be able to play on a regular basis again! He was out a long time regaining fitness and it was a fairly routine challenge that has put him out !
Agreed. Isak is left isolated when our wingers are doing very little and nobody from midfield is carrying the ball. Willock looked like he might do that before yet another injury. Joelinton should be doing it but he's been very sloppy on the ball last 2 games
That Will Ford who wrote the article is proper bitter when it comes to NUFC, constantly pulls stuff out of his arse for clicks and bites, best just ignored these days.
Great video and fair comments mate. Always slow starters to the season we will hopefully start to pick up over the next couple of games. Well certainly need to be on the mark v Spurs. You hit the nail on the head. I was just literally going to post that when Longstaff gets it it’s 2 seconds behind. Tonali gets it an he’s all ready 2-3 seconds ahead scanning the play
When I saw tonali play against fortentina in last seasons pre season friendly he looked a class act. What was possibly missing was the Eddie Howe fitness levels. Just like Gordon, after a year of speed and physical development it now looks like we have the natural talent with a more powerful player.
He was so so good and will only get better - i have been critical of our transfer window but her really is like a new signing - Also well done to the lads for staying in the game and doing what needed to be done - Toon army!
Great summary as usual Craig. Tonali showed he is that elite world class talent that Newcastle need all over pitch if we are to play regular European football. Willock showed what we’ve been missing with him so his injury is a massive setback both for the lad himself and the team. We haven’t quite clicked yet but we’re seeing enough in glimpses to be encouraged that true Eddie Howe style performances will come soon. Maybe the closing of the transfer window will settle everyone down to focus on what matters most; winning games and playing well. BTW Eddie should hold his pre match press conference on Saturday rather than Friday this week. He can then answer all your questions about new signings or the lack of them!
Tonali was a breath of fresh air in that midfield - where Bruno and Big Joe can hang on to it too long, he was one touch and moving it quickly every time.
Final 15 mins I thought we looked great but even before that, goal aside, I didn't really think Forrest created an awful lot. Maybe the game plan to solve our away day blues from last season is to deny home teams the opportunity to score, to stay solid. Definitely something to build on and in a results based industry, we're still in three competitions!
Tonali was the reason why other clubs were envious of Newcastle United. How can we go to Italy and sign the highly rated midfield maestro. When United Arsenal and Liverpool are left with shit. Tonali is Him. And we are all happy to see him back. The best 45 minutes I have seen from a player over 5 months now 👊
The away fans were something else, our 12th man, fantastic display from Tonali, everytime the cameras cut to him it looked like he was going to pass out such was the effort levels. A real shame for Willock but AFC Wimbledon away, Could have been worse 🙌
Was great to see him so lively and ready to go after so long with out game time and he seems to want to do well. Have to be honest he better with little Joe so that injury could cost us
Tonali looks to me to be the sort of player who raises everyone elses game. His quick first touch passing forces others to pick up the pace and quality.
Forest were all over us for large parts of that game despite our first team being pretty strong, slight concern tbh. Still don't think we're anywhere near our best yet.
Did u watch the game?..they had a few shots...we dominated the start and end..they were better the other bur they did nothing with it..I say there thinking they will never score again...
When we lost Willock our everything changed. Speed in the team, inventiveness, desire. We are (shouldn't be) a 1 player team. Sandro looked class, Forest had him working for his 1st return game. I'm hoping for some magic dust to get the middle 3 really working together. 4 out of 6, and a cup game win. Onward! #htl
Tonali is the player shelvey thought he was. A proper through back to the glory days or "football italia" on channel 4. He pops the ball around so calmly and get the ball up the field.
Great video. I’ll tell what that first half was missing. It was clear as day. We are not efficient at passing from the back. That meant we were disjointed in patches then. Pope’s distribution was off and Kraftu can’t long pass or pass through the lines. A ball playing centre half is a huge must. Hopefully Guehi happens. Sandro, I feel, reminded the team that we can play football, we can pass and keep possession instead of the usual direct attack. The team will settle. I mean when was the last time we saw a player with this ability?
Commenting after the transfer window has shut. I just hope Eddie, Paul Mitchell and Darren Eales can see eye-to-eye. I want them all at the club, they're all clearly good at what they do. Paul's got an excellent track record of signing absolute gems - we're lucky to have him at the club. We should let him do what he does best, while Eddie makes these gems into absolute worldies. I'm happy we didn't sign Guehi for £70m, we now have money in the bank to make informed decisions on transfers. It was never going to be easy with the amount of change behind the scenes we've had. Let's push for a top 7 finish and a conference league qualification. If Isak, Gordon, Bruno want to leave, think of the amount of money that will bring in to allow Mitchell to bring in some stars of the future. It's a long ride, we need to enjoy it each and every day.
Fair enough Craig, you are excited about Tonali’s return .. however, is there really the need to ask your stylist to sculpt the Cesar laurel leaf into your haircut ? 😉
Got 4-3 like once before different way everything has to happen twice !!!ref last time surname was cue interacting ,maybe final result might get reversed this season 🤣thanks again great report ,cheers ,hope you beat last orders last night 🥃
More positives than negatives I thought and got through another game without losing whilst the key players get additional match sharpness. Not losing is a good habit but spurs will be a tough game. Just a couple of small things ; at Bournemouth I’d say liveramento was as fault for the goal not tracking back and last night hall was at fault for not closing down the goal scorer in the box fast enough and these small details can make the difference in tight games. Looking forward to watching Tonali this year, he looks like a Rolls Royce of a player.
I don’t think we could’ve asked for a better performance on his return, he looked fired up and carried the team, easy to say but I think his return lifted the team and the mood, him and Joe willock in midfield were 2 absolute powerhouses driving forward
I believe starting Barnes on right side and transition miggy to be back up left wing to Gordon and Murphy stay back up right wing makes us a lot better
I'm still a little worried that Tonali and Bruno cant play together, hopefully itll gel. The fighting spirit (and a strong bench) is seeing us through at the moment, but the slick passing just isnt happening at the moment. Cant tell if thats a fitness thing or are we missing Schar/Botman too much at the start of it?
For the past year, we have been pinning our hopes on a returning player in the hope we get back to our best. Have to say I'm not convinced anymore. I hope I'm wrong.
Lewis Hall is a midfielder. He is much better in forward positions when he drifts inside. Then we have a problem with Lloyd Kelly looking more comfortable at Centre-back. With Matt Targett possibly leaving, I'm surprised that nobody has really mentioned us needing to sign a left-back.
I have to be honest and say Tonali was superb. But Isak has looked well of it so far at times. The amount of times balls come across the 6 yard box and Isak is nowhereto be seen is scary. Surely he is due a big performance vs Spurs. I worry about us going forward as well
Yeah I’ve noticed that as well which is weird because he got a rest during summer as he was not involved with he Euro’s. Wonder if he is playing with an injury or just off form.
We have not been playing the kind of football we want. First game was with a man down and second game no one did as well as they could. Two games in, it is to early to judge! Notice his shot today, the goalie couldn't hold on, and that gave us the lead. He was the one finding the pass to Joe that won us the Southampton game. A different story; Im hyped about Barnes, think he is going to have a great season!
@@ziggythomsen3436 Yeah agreed that it was not great circumstances Isak was playing under for the first two games but he still seemed off. Lost the ball quite easy, touch was off as was his decision making which is unlike him. Yeah it's still early days so will see how it goes. Agreed on Barnes, think he is a great player. I would try having Gordon on the right and Barnes on the left for the next game.
@@ericengleby265 . Howe still hasn’t worked out how to get the ball to him .. he makes great runs , he drifts wide and drops in but we rarely play Clever passes to match his runs. Maybe with Tonali back we will pass it forward earlier , Isak with Willock carrying the ball and Bruno and Tonali passing will be a frightening prospect.. Joelinton has it in him ti carry the ball too but it’s not as dynamic as when Willock is in his game
3 games and we havent looked like being in control. Played well in parts of those games, but it is early season. Hope Willock isnt out long. We done Longstaff on the 5th penalty. Composed and clinical.
Tonali made rest look pedestrian, Anderson had a great game in midfield for Forest and kept Bruno quiet! Bruno is dwelling on ball and getting caught and getting rather dubious free kicks, he will come unstuck if he doesn’t up game. We put 2 balls all night in front of Isak we are just not creating for him, people saying he is not there in box, true but mainly because he is the one playing ball in! Said many times walk away from Guehi it’s sheer and utter madness. We can’t buy a RW but Chiesa gone to scousers for £12m unbelievable! I agree it was such an important win HWTL
I agreed with you in the last video about Gordon on the left and Barnes on the Right but I have to say Gordon didnt seem comfortable when he came on, on the right. He looked better once moved to the left. Barnes may be the better option on the right if the two are to play together.
Dan Burn was immense at the back.....again. 13:09 Joelinton poor again.........too heavy and too slow........ Bruno still quiet for long periods by his high standards. Jota Silva bought for £7 million for Forest was superb............wonder if NUFC or Manager knew of this player before tonight? If they did ..............we've missed out
Tonali was on a different level, genuinely played the game differently to every other player. Highlight over, our performances are like a spluttering sports car engine, sometimes working but mostly struggling. Eales should hang his head in shame for this transfer window, we have been left with no option but to pursue Guehi and everyone knows that money would be better spent on two positions.
I don't think Eales has much to do with the transfers. He is responsible for overseeing the overall strategy and direction of the club in terms of business operations Paul Mitchell is Newcastle United's sporting director, overseeing all football operations including scouting, recruitment and player development Eddie works closely with him and they're largely in agreement of who they should bring in. Executing that is Mitchell's domain
Excellent summary of match Craig . I thought JL was very poor and I was more confident Of Longstaffe scoring his pen than I was JL !! His miss summed his night up . Flashes of good play from Lewis Hall but he looks nowhere near a PL player at this stage .
Craig, has the new performance manager been interfering with Eddies training methods to avoid injuries, coz we seem nowhere near up to Eddie speed yet ?
All this Sandros back! Great 👍 but to me a on it Joe willock makes us a far better team but nobody seams to realise. Brings far more energy/attacking threat which seems to be a concern so far this season. I hope the lad isn't out for to long......
Great to see Sandro back massive plus negatives are the transfer window I actually think we should give two fingers to palace after they play a man subject of massive transfer speculation thus cup tiring him absolutely despicable behaviour walk away don’t let them take the piss🤷♂️
There is definitely something off with the team so far. Loose passes, no press, no real threat for much of the match but we have managed to not lose any of the 3 so far. Tonali was superb, Joelinton was poor again and Isak not the same player so far this season. Much to do..
Sorry Craig but I don't think us winning on penalties last night has altered the mood, if anything such a performance was a mere reflection of what I have felt about this summer window; namely concerned. We haven't recruited new talent in the areas which we really needed to focus on (RW, CDM etc.), instead trying to break the bank for Guehi which gives off the Woodgate-Rooney fiasco vibes from years back, and seem unable to grab games by the scruff of the neck once we go in front. I'll admit though that I think Barnes should start on the RW from now on. I think he and Tino looked really promising towards the end of the game last night, particularly in their link up play. The plaudits for Tonali are justified also, thought he was fantastic. In contrast to Isak who looked again, like last season, totally isolated at times. Maybe it's pre-season rustiness but last night isn't fooling anybody anytime soon in my opinion.
The centre half palace have bought is to replace Anderson, not to mention they had a CB go off injured last night. The Guehi deal is deader then a dead thing from dead land imo.
Hall looses the ball coz he's brave & tries difficult passes rather than stop at halfway line like Burn & Targett before him mate. I think overall Hall looked good. I'll take him losing the ball providing his more experienced teammates cover for him until he learns when & when not to make the pass. The lad is gonna be great.
Special shoutout to Krafth who I thought was excellent last night. He’s never going to catch the eye as much as some and has his limitations but I thought that he was very good again last night.
Can I suggest please Craig that you ask followers to award merit stars to the Howe/Mitchell/Eales team following the end of this transfer window? My marks would be as follows: Howe - 3 stars for having to keep a straight bat while others undermined him. Though the team hasn’t yet played well this season, results have so far been good due to a togetherness and team spirit. This speaks volumes on Howe’s behalf. Mitchell - 1 star for effort. Talked a good talk suggesting he would sign two elite signings. An extremely poor start, but can be forgiven perhaps having only one month to work. As director of football I have seen deterioration so far this season. Whatever happened to the ‘intensity is our identity’ motto? Eales - zero stars. Officiated during both the Anderson/Minteh PSR debacle and the Guehi shambles. Why he hasn’t been questioned for allowing the PSR situation in the first place is beyond me. Promised a transformational summer but has provided a performance reminiscent of the Ashley/Lambias era. Bunce: not applicable - early days yet, but no recognisable change in injuries so far. Consistently injured players remain injured, consistently.
Its worrying that we arent controlling games like we did at the start of eddies reign. We were up against a forest side who made 10 changes. We should be dominating and have a lot more team cohesion than them but it was quite the opposite imo.
Taking chances at goal Willocks goal showed you have to follow up shots get an early lead and not stop trying. Next man up.. unity is good..just need to get Isak on track
His injuries have to be a concern for his future as a PL player .Been regaining fitness for ages and now out for a fairly routine challenge. Very concerning 😢
Tonali’s passing, vision, dynamics are what our midfield has lacked since his ban began.
Emotional seeing him embrace the fans at the end of the game.
I am happy that Tonali has found a public and fans who love him as much as we did at AC Milan since he was a baby boy 🙂

😂
Underated comment 😂 bravo
I believe starting Barnes on right side and transition miggy to be back up left wing to Gordon and Murphy stay back up right wing makes us a lot better
do you seriously reckon murphy shouldnt start?
Almiron has to start ahead of Gordon. He's a much better player and proved it last night
I think targett is worth another go he didn't really do alot wrong when he was in the team
@@ziggythomsen3436 Bad mistake from the keeper.
Dare I say we need a player like Ugarte, a specialist DM who would give us control especially on the road.
Joelinton poor again.........too heavy and too slow........
Bruno still quiet for long periods by his high standards.
Jota Silva bought for £7 million for Forest was superb............wonder if NUFC or Manager knew of this player before tonight? If they did ..............we've missed out
Livramento was class when he came on.
He is responsible for overseeing the overall strategy and direction of the club in terms of business operations
Paul Mitchell is Newcastle United's sporting director, overseeing all football operations including scouting, recruitment and player development
Eddie works closely with him and they're largely in agreement of who they should bring in. Executing that is Mitchell's domain
Exactly that @@Chez114 👏
Totally agree, Tonali was a different level. Hopefully Bruno and Joe will up their game, Joelinton has been poor the last 2 games.
Excellent summary of match Craig .
I thought JL was very poor and I was more confident Of Longstaffe scoring his pen than I was JL !!
His miss summed his night up .
Flashes of good play from Lewis Hall but he looks nowhere near a PL player at this stage .
Really think we need a 6 still and would also like to see targett back on the pitch
We are lucky to get sandro we would not have got him if he was not going to get banned he different gravy world class
Tonali was very good. His teammates are going to have to sharpen up though, if they want to keep up with how instantly he can ping a pass off.
Craig, has the new performance manager been interfering with Eddies training methods to avoid injuries, coz we seem nowhere near up to Eddie speed yet ?
That’s a good point. Let me check!
Very good point. We aren’t pressing as a team and we’re not really going in small groups either. Usually Gordon or Almiron set that in motion.
All this Sandros back! Great 👍 but to me a on it Joe willock makes us a far better team but nobody seams to realise. Brings far more energy/attacking threat which seems to be a concern so far this season. I hope the lad isn't out for to long......
hopefully plays again at the weekend defo need to take a step up
Great to see Sandro back massive plus negatives are the transfer window I actually think we should give two fingers to palace after they play a man subject of massive transfer speculation thus cup tiring him absolutely despicable behaviour walk away don’t let them take the piss🤷♂️
There is definitely something off with the team so far. Loose passes, no press, no real threat for much of the match but we have managed to not lose any of the 3 so far.
Tonali was superb, Joelinton was poor again and Isak not the same player so far this season. Much to do..
I hope Sandro becomes the player that Hugo Viana could have been for us.
Think we are missing botman and schar at the back to get some possesion and passing going
That was Forests rotated team… and this was our performance.
Shocking.
👏🏻
Forest have a better squad of players. We need about 14 new players
Tonali was the best player on the pitch in the home win against PSG. He didn’t just play well against Villa.
slacking that’s the identity
Have they changed the rules for throw inns
The players went off after that win. Meant a lot for them.
Great prediction 👏 👍 😂
A gladiator among a bunch of headless chickens.
What the 😂
The centre half palace have bought is to replace Anderson, not to mention they had a CB go off injured last night. The Guehi deal is deader then a dead thing from dead land imo.
Its quiet cos all the fans have left Craig
My marks would be as follows:
Howe - 3 stars for having to keep a straight bat while others undermined him.
They have a better squad of players. Jota is class
can tonali bruno joelinton play together though ?
Sandro I'll take your word for it, but lets just see.
Taking chances at goal Willocks goal showed you have to follow up shots get an early lead and not stop trying. Next man up.. unity is good..just need to get Isak on track
We still need 2-3 signings, some more tacticians are needed.
We need 14 new players. We only have about 9 decent players in the squad
We'll probably need another midfielder now Willock is facing months out
His injuries have to be a concern for his future as a PL player .Been regaining fitness for ages and now out for a fairly routine challenge. Very concerning 😢
Lewis Cook incoming for £60m
