So far, all I can do is stare at it... lol... no CLUE what to do with it, or even if I am supposed to do anything to it yet. 🤪 I am excited to watch it grow though. Hopefully. @@grobonsai thanks! I'm a bit scared I've killed it already. I reported it into another pot in order to get it out of the yucky nursery soil it arrived in and within a day the leaves turned all curled.and crispy and dry and began to fall off. 😔

I recommend getting a ficus from a reputable seller, and giving it a go! To start with, all you need to focus on is keeping a tree in a pot alive. You will encounter questions as you go, and that’s part of the fun.

Pick the shoot that is the best compromise between strength (thickness) and angle. That’s your trunk leader. Pick one or two shoots as side branches, cut them to length. Remove the rest
My bonsai lost its leaves at the top. He is now recovering but it’s growing at the bottom to the sides at first. The crown is still very bald. Do I have to cut the braches at the bottom to get it more green at the top? they’re getting very big and growing sideways

I can't imagine a beginner buys a tree like this with no knowledge of all the stuff you need to know to get here. But I guess there's always someone...

Generally before spring growth, early to mid summer, and fall are the best times. But! There is variation among species !

I see you keep using a spherical rather than straight recessed branch cutter. Is this what is generally preferred?
I like it because it is easy to get a nice angle no matter what the branch shape, easy to clean the cut after.
