I think Augustus's biggest strength was having the unwavering loyalty of an allstar team of political actors. Agrippa was a terrifying general and while other dictators and their generals were always on tense terms in the sense of "will he take power or will he not?" (e.g. Belisarius and Justinian) Agrippas loyalty to Augustus was unwavering and unquestioned and vice versa. Agrippa never second guessed if Augustus would betray him or sell him out, it wasn't even a question. That foundational loyalty is something Augustus was able to build his legacy on.
@@hammurabii.3173 Thats basically a pattern with a lot of very successful leaders. They put together a group of powerful supporters that are also very capable at their jobs. I.E. Genghis Khan's generals were terrifying just by themselves.
One of the best episodes of the series, 12:18 this moment where Cicero flinches at Antony rising from his chair, Antony having a menacing look on his face before melting to a smug smile at scaring Cicero, pure class acting.
Cicero really did insult Mark Anthony. But he wrote 14 speeches. The show gives a summary to get the sentiment across. Mercury was a roman god of messengers. Was known to be quick.
Damn, I love watching you guys react! I wish this was a double feature.😎😁 PS…Deadwood, the Gem Saloon in particular, has a bottle of ‘The Horses Piss’ waiting for both of you at the bar…on me!😎😉
A thing to remember...the Jewish storyline was going to be a big part of the plot IF it had lasted 5 seasons, so if it doesn't seem like it goes anywhere...that's why. It was the victim of squishing 5 seasons into 2. FWIW.
You're right - IMHO the Levi and Timon storyline was way too slow, oddly stuck in here, but they obviously had wider plans for the show (edit: that they didn't get to).
thanks for the reaction again guys! 9:25 yea I like how the show portrays women, roman society was incredibly mysogenistic, women were barely considered second class citizens, but some were def playing politics (through their husbands or male family members). Atia def has some political sence in her, and she is right. 12:26 thats a power move right there, I like how the show portrays marc anthony and his way of doing politics, it contrasted ofc with Caesar's who was a good politician but MA is more brutish, it was a very dangerous time, even for illustrious and great orators and politicians like Cisero, in fact especially for them! 27:23 I cant remember the name of that actress, but she should have had a nomination for best supporting actress on a TV show, she is insanely talented, you can see the pain and anguish on her face, I know that those are rehearsed emotions but holy molly I dont feel like Im watching someone perform, it feels like watching real life.
The good Agrippa, Octavian may had been a great and intelligent politician, but Agrippa was the one who knew how to win his battles

It's so much fun to see how much you two enjoy this.

“At this time, the republic would be most grateful to except Caesar’s offer of assistance”
‘Oh…you’ll see!!!’😎🤣😝
Atia does have a point there, Brutus and Cassius are not going to forget about being exiled. At some point they will come for him
Happy Janu(s)ary!

It's OK! Life of Brian takes care of the rest😛
Mark Antony, just out here trying to find his fig tree.
..fertilizing soil/plants etc. you mean ;-)
That ain't no crack that's that ancient weed
After Duro demanded 300 from Servillia, I fully expected a ‘oh, you’ll see!’….🤔🤣😎
