This guy is an amazing talent, first of all, I like that he seems to pick and chose his movies carefully and doesnt just take any roles for the sake of being everywhere all the time for fame (dont know much of him but he seems so humble for the little I know of him off screen). And then, when he plays the villain he blows up the screen and steals every scene he is in with the so believable intensity with which he plays his characters that it is very hard to believe that he can be that much of a cool and pleasant person in real life. what a talented transformation he does for the screen. He seems really sincerely pleasant in real life in his interviews etc...definitely one of the most underrated actors of our time. Whether he gives an explosive performance or a very soft/subtle one, its always an amazing strong performance. He gives you chills in Once Upon a Time in America, Casino, Any given Sunday, Against All Odds, etc..I dont know how much of a versatile he is in acting for I have only seen him in villain roles, but boy he always left his mark in those. Plus I think the very strong face that he has gives him a very mainly charm. Kuddos to James Woods!

Kevin Smith made a Clerks cartoon show way back. They only made six episodes, but Woods played a charter in one. It was a parody of Outbreak the movie, and Woods played the Dustin Hoffman part.
At one point Woods wasn't doing the lines right and when he asked, how should I play the guy, Smith said, "Be more James Woods." He got it, and it was hysterical.

James Woods, Edward Norton are the types that have a different intelligence level n the fluid energy that can't be tied or contained for long. So they seem same on screen n off screen. They don't have to rehearse (it appears that way) n their switch is so smooth n subtle that we take it for granted. Gem of a talent.

I thought Scorsese's acting in "Taxi Driver" was excellent. Is that the only acting on film he's ever done? He was so creepy as the jealous husband in the back seat of the cab, describing how great it was going to be to kill his cheating wife. I love Scorsese's films but I thought "Casino" was weak. The first scene where the car blows up (with a mannequin behind the wheel) was one of the worst special effect jobs on film.
