    Why would the inspector be wrong about bonding the metal poles for the pool? Was it outside the perimeter bond of the pool or were they just insulated by the cups they went into? I thought in one of the examples where the lifeguard was electrocuted it was due to one of the handrails not being bonded. Just trying to understand things a bit better. Thanks for all you do, have learned a lot from you and your team.

    • @MikeHoltNEC
      @MikeHoltNEC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Bonding is required for 'fixed' metal parts within 5' not 'metal parts withing 5'.

    Rather than call it “Electrical Theory” (eyes glaze over for many), “Electrical Fundamentals” or “Electrical Essentials” conveys as sense of practicality and of application.

    Why is it "electrical theory" and not "electrical fact"? :)

    • @carultch
      @carultch ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because theory doesn't mean a guess or a hunch. A lot of people confuse theory with hypothesis. A theory is a body of knowledge that explains a family of concepts, and is scientifically proven beyond a reasonable doubt, based on our best understanding in the present day.
      A fact is one piece of data on which a theory is based. A theory puts numerous facts together, and builds a model to explain why those facts are true from fundamental principles.
      The distinction between theory and practice, is that a lot more factors come in to play in practice, that might not show up in a simple application of the theory. As an example, assuming you have nominal voltage at your service point, and basing your calculations off of it, is an example of theory. Theoretically, you are supposed to have 120V line to neutral, and 240V line to line, on a split-phase service. In practice, the exact voltage at your service point is a moving target, that varies with the loads your neighbors consume throughout the day.

      @@MR-nl8xr Do you have a point to all of this? I find your post extremely hard to follow, and the laymen's use of the word theory leads to all kinds of misunderstandings.
      The OP asked why it is called electrical theory and not electrical fact. I answered.
