Since I had the accidental event of leaving the cap off my Grog 10 ml pen, I searched for a replacement nib. I searched for Grog Squeezer 10 and found a site that sell the exact replacement for it. In two different materials (the spongy material in the tip). Easy to search for. Now my Tokonole pen works like new. (before getting my new tips, I poked a bunch of holes, with a needle, through my dried out tip. It worked a little until I got my new tips)

Burnishing is probably my least favorite part about completing my builds and I never wanted to spend the money on a burnishing machine, but with your reviews I am probably going to make the move! Appreciate the vids, newly subbed!
I spend a good amount on Sedgwick bends for my briefcase builds so I mine as well spend the money to make my burnishing quicker and probably better.

Agreed. A 50/50 mix is a great for edge pens. I use the method all the time AFTER I use different pens filled with dye. Always do the edge dyeing first.👍 😉. As far as getting a great burnish with Chrome Exel ,..no thank you. Those edges beg for PAINT. Trying to burnish Chrome Exel is like ice skating uphill. Why do so much work that results in a mediocre edge? Prime it, layer three coats of Uniters leather acrylic then finish with a satin Fiebings glaze. *perfection*.

I've been fighting a grog marker for a few months after seeing this video because I wasn't getting the flow out of it that I wanted - because I thought, like the Montana and Angelus markers, you push the tip down to flow more product. I re-watched and realized the item name "Squeezer" should have been a hint!
Now I'll offer you a hint - instead of that mixing-in-a-cup nonsense, just get yourself some 10ml syringes to evenly measure the Tokenole and water, squirt it directly into the marker, then shake the heck out of it. You can get them on Amazon - 100 for $17 - , or just ask anyone who works in healthcare to get you a few "flushes" (they just contain saline that can be rinsed out).
They're also great for getting paint into the bigger Montana markers. I use disposable pipettes for getting paint into the smaller marker, especially when they require diluting with a thinner the way Angelus does!
I hope this helps - and saves you from a mess!

I bought that cheap burnisher a few years ago and wasn't impressed with it for sanding / burnishing as it's motor is underpowered -- especially if you're trying to work on a strap or belt. I upgraded to the Cobra burnisher (look into it for future reference) and it was one of my better investments. As for the cheap burnisher, I tossed out the drum sanding parts and installed the honing jigs that came with it and I'm very impressed with the results I get polishing the edges of my skiving knives, edgers, X-Acto blades, etc., It just takes a few seconds time to get razor sharp edges. You just need to make the leather wheels that fit into the jig.

Oh man the Cobras are nice! For what I'm doing, this one is perfect. I have had my eye on the Master Tool burnisher from Weaver for a while now, though. I have a few things to upgrade first.

That looks like a fancy refillable version of the package envelope moistener comes in. If you don't know, that is a sponge tipped container used for moistening adhesive on envelopes. When there are hundreds of items to mail, licking every envelope is not the best option.

Try 50mm or 30mm for dyeing, 15mm &7mm for edge dyeing... Will try 7mm with tokonole 👍🏽

How long should you wait after dying before using Tokonole? I was planning to use Tokonole to help burnish the flesh side using something like a piece of glass. Not sure as I haven't placed my order of supplies yet, but thought of ordering a burnishing glass on Amazon. I wanted to help smooth out the fibers. Not sure if I'd do it on the flat edge.

I thought of this long ago and attempted with the Montana marker which I also use for edge dyeing, I put the Tokonole in at full strength though and didn't work, didn't try cutting it with water. Think I will try the Grog markers now and thanks for the video!

I have had it dry up once because I was dumb and left the lid off but I was able to re-wet it by dunking it in water. Give that a shot.

I've been using the Montana markers for a while, I like them a lot. I use Martins edge products it doesn't stain if you get carried away or make an Oops. Try it you may like it and is not expensive.

That seems interesting ! I actually apply with some kind of awl on belt edges. Not only takes time as you said but also leave a bit of tokonole on the surface of leather wich leaves small unwanted stains all along the belt after burnished or just wiped the excess. Not the cleanest.. Does the application with the marker completly avoid that ? Don’t really see it on your video. Thanks !

I mean you gotta do your best not to apply too much to avoid staining still, but it's way easier that applying tokonole by hand or awl. It's honestly a game-changing method, though. You'll like it.

@@BlackFlagLeatherGoods I'll give it a try, grunch are very cheap anyway. I also tried cottons swabs wich are quite good and small bottles with needles wich are very precise but same pain than awl at the end..
You would recommend grunch 10mm mini one for up to 5mm thickness edges?
There's a "08 cutter version" with a flat tip that seems intersting too but the tip is way longer it seems, not sure if it would work the same

I have the Grog 10mm and 5mm. I prefer the 10. The Grog Cutter is very similar to the Montana marker which I also tried but it wasn't ideal. You have to press down on the marker tip to dispense it. The squeeze markers are what you want.

That is definitely true! But I'm happy to use methods taken from other disciplines if they speed up the process or give better results. Both ideas you mentioned do both of those things.
