    With Goodwill charging more than retail, closing their dressing rooms permanetnly, stickers covering valuable information, never displaying jewelry and other donated valuables in the store, and a CEO raking in a ridiculous profit, I rarely shope at GW anymore and never donate anymore

    • @arleneportsmouth1263

      Everything that you say is true and a couple of years ago when Googling the profits of Goodwill the CEO ranked in the highest profits of any retail store even higher than Tiffany's. Items could be of value but by the time you have to scrape off the price tags the item is completely ruined and worthless.

      Goodwill is charging such high prices because they know that people buy stuff and resell it for outrageous prices.The sellers are no better than Goodwill who gets everything for free.

    I started yard sale, thrifting and antique shopping with my 1st grandson 25 years ago. I wanted us to create a collection of blue and white china/ironstone for his future family. We have Spode, Johnson Brothers and Wedgewood sets in his hutch. 2nd grandchild has tea sets in hers, 3rd grand has way too much Disney in that glass case. Grandson 4 was the only one who got to chose his collection and although he’s only 12 yrs, we have a good start on vintage cars. It’s been a blast building these collections and memories with each of them. Something that will leave precious memories.

    I am envious of the prices you have in Nevada. I never see items priced at 69 cents or 99 cents. Your selections are better, too. Love watching and listening to you shop. So much joy in your voice. Thank you!

      The only way we see those prices in our area is if we go to the Goodwill bins warehouses. They're just that, wheeled 20'x6' bins piled with stuff destined for the landfill. I've seen silver teapots, antique player piano rolls, new clothing --all sorts of stuff.

    Easy way to ship your glassware is to get a spray can of expanding foam. Fill the bottom of your shipping box with the foam. Place your item to be shipped inside a grocery bag. Put the bag with the item down in the foam. Continue to fill up your box with a spray foam let it set and seal up your box

    I have something to say about the piece where the price sticker on the bottom covered the artist's name and then the name came off when the sticker got peeled off - shame on Goodwill for being careless with their stickers. You would think they would recognize that there is value to some of these things and the way they haphazardly slap on a sticker ruins the piece. They do the same thing with tape, they tape everything and I've found things that might have been gifted except that by the time the tape was peeled off it ruined the packaging and couldn't be gifted. Goodwill needs to be more aware before they go putting stickers and tape over everything!

      @@colleenkielczynski1696 Goodwill wasn't created so they could profit 100% off of the donations and the CEO earn over $2million a year, but here we are. They charge boutique prices for the stuff they sell. It's no longer priced for underprivileged families. Shame on you for not realizing that poor families buy goods at goodwill to sell to support their families. Quit being wilfully ignorant that this is not a "charity" It's a business.

    Just so you know, Jemes Pueblo is in New Mexico, not Mexico, so your black on white pot is a Native American piece. There are a number of accomplished artists in the Lorreto family but if this one is signed with no initial or first name, it's likely an older piece. It's lovely!

    Many folks are clueless about picking out the treasures from among the bric a brac. Hearing you narrate your search is somewhat of an education for me. Knowledge of these things is often a woman's skill, but I'm sure there are men who do this as well. For me, it would be helpful to carry an internet connected cell phone and be able to search item's prices at ebay. Collectibles in particular. Thanks for sharing.

    I walked into GW here in Toronto one day last year, and with a few very specific household items..particularly, dishes...and the very first thing i see on the shelf..with hundreds of other dinnerware pieces .. is a couple of stacks of plain white, full size, plates. So I was thinking that plain white would be good because i can essentially add a myriad of other colours/accent dishes and make my table look great...so i picked one up to look at the price on the back and the first shock was that they were Royal Doulton. The second shock, they were 50 cents each!!! They were flawless! So i bought them all...lol. there were 82 of them!! I kept 12 and sold the rest for $15 each...which was less than 1/2 if the retail value at that time!!!...
    I dont normally go out looking for resale items...it just kinda happens every so often....and the RD plates just happened to be one of those occassions😊 Not bad for $1015 profit😉!!!

    Tiffany Hi 🌻Great Haul. Love the sunflower bowl. The Tupperware jello mold is a great find. I make a yummy Christmas punch. I freeze some of the punch with 🍒 to float in my punch. Doesn't water it down. The red n gold Italy piece is so striking. I love to decorate with red. I have a plain cheese shaker. We make homemade 🍕often. Sounds odd but someone told me to get a melted candle loose,pop it in the freezer and it comes out. I had a Beautiful freeform glass piece that someone used to burn a candle. So I placed it in the freezer. And after I got it out I started moving the candle and it came right loose. I was shocked. Fun fact...Happy Thrifting

    The shoe forms with the long metal "twisty thing" on the back look like vintage shoe stretchers. A wedge form inside the wood halves is driven forward on an interior track when the long metal rod is turned clockwise. The moving wedge increasingly separates the wooden halves as the long rod is turned. Great for getting just a little more width across the vamp.

    I've had good luck using a regular nail file (for your nails, not a metal one) to sand small chips out of glass and ceramics. If they are really small they will file out, if they are larger you can at least file off the sharp edge for a more desirable piece.

    • @cecilyerker
      @cecilyerker 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      DO NOT do this! But in the vein of using nail tools, you can absolutely use acrylic nail dip powder to patch small chips. It will not make it dishwasher safe, but you can match it to literally any color with nail polish or enamel paint.

      I VERY Much agree! Although she doesn't always pick up what I think she will pick up, the camera view shows a whole lot as if I'm getting to shop and look too! I absolutely Love that. Thank you for showing so much and so often and for your pleasant voice and your explanations and conversation. This was my very 1st video of yours to watch and I like your style. I'm also learning some things from you as I watch. I'm new to the Thrift vintage videos on TH-cam and keep asking myself "Where have I been all this time?" Lol. But I'm enjoying all of you posters and finding my favorites. Funny how I watched another vintage seeker on TH-cam the other day and she sounded lost and full of anxiety on how to talk during the video and come to find out she has a huge amount of followers which serious surprised me. The things she picks up too, I'm like "What?!?" But I see she has a great amount of antiques knowledge so that must be why. Otherwise I don't understand. She probably started posting these videos many years ago and that is also why her numbers are so high.
      But I Really like your style. Thank you for your videos!

    WOW! I can't believe how reasonable your Goodwill prices are! You would never see anything priced at .69 at my Goodwill. The cheapest I've ever seen is usually 2.49. They've raised all the prices as well on the hard goods. Coasters are beautiful! I love Pottery too!

      Hi! I'm always surprised at how Goodwill prices vary so much from state to state. I'm thankful too that my favorite Goodwill has exceptional management and staff who keep the shelves well stocked as inventory moves quite quickly. 😀💞

      Our Goodwills charge basically retail prices. It's ridiculous. They often have items with Greenbriar International stickers still on them (Dollar Tree branded items) and have them tagged sometimes as high as $3.99 and $4.99. Usually on cheap holiday resin items or mugs & cups.

    • @VioletJoy
      @VioletJoy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm curious what area you live in. Some people don't realize that Goodwill prices often differ according to their needs. Since Goodwill's main mission is to provide employment, prices can be higher in areas where minimum wage is higher. Here in California, Goodwill employees are paid above minimum wage to start, which greatly affects pricing. Add to that, the cost of running the organization (rent, utilities, trucks, gas, theft, etc.) can also affect pricing.
      There are always some great deals though. I've noticed that sometimes shoppers focus on a few items that are ridiculously priced rather than the bulk that are good deals. The best prices will be found on items that have been on the floor for a couple of days and at the outlets. Outlet prices are ALWAYS incredible.

    • @TheThrillofTheThrift
      @TheThrillofTheThrift 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@VioletJoy I live in NY state. They are paid minimum wage here. They get so many donations that the shelves are overflowing. If they want to get rid of their inventory than they shouldn’t be charging such ridiculously high prices. They’d rather throw stuff in the dump rather than lowering their prices. It’s pretty sad.

    I believe the pottery candle holder that you can see thru is missing a part of the design on onee of the openings. The other two openings seem to have an upper and lower loop, and the third opening is missing the lower loop. Not sure if that is a break, or if it is made to be that way. Your close-up view should be able to tell.

    I love haul videos, but there is always something I want to SEE and people just go right past it! LOL There was a plate with playing cards on it and I wanted to SEE it! I keep wanting to clear out my house and have a "game night" here for my friends, but I probably never will. I have too much "stuff" in here and I'm disabled and can't clear it out and I'm on Social Security so couldn't afford to cook for a game night even if I could clean my house out to have one, but it's fun to dream.
