From what I know it's a dps gain when you can pull it off as you avoid casting the weaker spells that way, but if you start doing it and have to end it early it's not worth doing. It's a min-maxing thing blm's do.
You use it to get slightly more mana during an ice phase for some transpose F3 lines. The ticks give you 50 more mana, which is just enough to fit F3>3xF4>Despair after transpose.

Potions have a really long amimation lock. They should NEVER be in a double weave
