Sermon - What Happened to All of the Fish?
Old Testament Scripture - Isaiah 6:1-8
New Testament Scripture - Luke 5:1-11
Matthew, Mark, and Luke all include the story of Jesus calling his first disciples. In all three stories the disciples are at the Sea of Galilee fishing or just finishing up. However, only in Luke does Jesus tell Simon (Peter) to cast his net into the deep water. The Luke story is also the only one to mention the great catch of fish that resulted when Peter followed Jesus’ instructions. So many fish that he had to call another boat to help and their nets began to break from the heavy load of fish. For Luke to include the amazing number of fish caught, it must be important. So, what does the large catch of fish have to do with the call of the first disciples? Join us Sunday for worship as we seek to see how these two relate and what that means for us today.
