Great job explaining the drop down list. How can you use the drop down list to bring in additional columns from the list. Example: The drop down list contain various fruits. When you select a fruit, the related unit price of that fruit also populates the table. Then, you can enter the quantity and use a formula to get the extended price. Similar to an invoice.
I typed in a really long "search" request, not knowing how to explain what I wanted to do. Your video was exactly what I was looking for!! Thank you for creating such clear and easy to follow instructions!!
It first didn’t workout for me until I realised that some excel versions require a semicolon (;) instead of a comma (,) when writing 3:15. It’s a small difference that had me buzzing for like 5 minutes. Hope others avoid this mistake
It's taken me a while but I got there in the end. You have to be careful to do the steps in order otherwise it all goes pear shaped. I do believe I've learned a new skill. Thanks Kevin.
Excellent Tutorial Kevin, saved me a lot of time and headaches! The only issue that I am having is when I add additional content to the tables they are not showing in the drop downs even though they are showing as part of the table, the data validation is limiting to my original table. I am and absolute novice so if anyone reads this and knows what I am doing wrong I would greatly appreciate a hand!
I suuuper appreciate when I need an answer and I get EXACTLY what I needed without all the fluff. So much so, that I'm actually leaving this comment and thumbs upping your vid. Thanks.
Thank you so much sir Kevin, actually my teacher assigned us an assignment regarding this kind of scenario where we are needed to think a solution on how can we immediately have a list of items so we can easily input it on a cell. Fortunately I have found this video of you, You save me😢😊❤🎉 Thank you so much once again.🎉
Honestly i thought it was more complicated than this!!! I've always avoided working with excel (or doing stuff manually with no formulas etc) coz some instructions or videos are so vague or poorly made respectively. Ill be checking out later "pivot tables" if you have a video on that. I am sooo subcribing to learn more tricks. PS: This is the longest comment i've ever made on YT.
Thank you for these wonderful "how to" videos! Questions re: drop down list: 1.) Can you create a dropdown list in Excel and copy and paste it into Word? will it function? How do you get it to function? 2.) How do you put a blank "value" in your drop down list? Feel free to simply point me in the direction of another video if you have already answered this. Thanks so much for your help.
Its been long time, but can you do this? Also if it is possible it would be of great help if you can mention some keywords to research into thsi. Thanks.
Awesome!. I always look forward to your uploads, they're consistently great. Thanks for the detailed and honest review, it helped me make a better decision..
I'm taking a Microsoft Office class for a degree, and couldn't figure out how to create survey in Excel 365 until I found this video. Thanks so much for breaking it down into easy to repeat parts!
This was so helpful!! I thought it would be difficult to create. You just helped me on how to create schedule for work . I have been manually typing in information.
Oh and by the way, great explanation. I used it for my first try of course there was an item that needed to be added to the list and the user did not know what to do.
Thanks for the great video. How do I take my list from the drop downs, and let say add each drop down ie; bakery, produce, meet to see how many of each I have?
Hi. Man, you help so many people with your tutorials. Thank you very much. When I create a table and tell the dropdown menu to get info from the table, it doesn't update automatically when I add new items to the table. Am I doing anything wrong? thank you
Fantastic tutorial, however, mines is not updating dynamically. I do have my list as a table with header in a separate sheet, but it won’t update if I add data to the table.
@@frankdewit3445 Yes, you’ll create that list as a table (ctrl + T). Give table a meaningful name. Now in data validation use =INDIRECT("CategoryList") where categorylist is your table name. Hope this helps.
A really awesome tutorial, thank you. I do have a question. Once I moved the source list to a different sheet, I was able to add different options (accepted/rejected) to the table but those options didn't appear as an option on the list. Am I missing something?
that was great - I want to see how to change/apply the color palette, based on date range, in a calendar Gantt chart. I used a template, and made changes, but cells don't show the formats I can replicate.
Hello, Congratulations, your videos are the best! Please help me with this... How can I include a "Select all" option in a drop down list?, because once an option is selected I can't look all the options again.
Hi Kevin, first of thanks for video. It is very useful. I have a little issue when updating list. Automatic list does not update. Please advise, thank you
Great tutorial! Thank you. I'd rather watch your videos then the Excel tutorials on the Home page 🙂. I really like how to add the messages - never knew how to do that. One question I have is: on the data validation box, settings tab, there are two boxes that are checked by default - what are those about? Should "ignore blank" be left check? Does that mean someone could just ignore the cell and not make a selection?
Incredible!. Thanks for the clear and concise instructions, they were very helpful. Thanks for your review, it helped me make a more informed decision..
Fantastic video Kevin! Really helpful and intuitive. I would like to ask - is there a way how you can set up a cell which changes according to what you choose in the drop down? E.g. If I choose apples from a drop down menu in cell A1, can there be a way whereby cell B1 will show the price of apples which has been preset in some way? Don't know if it's making any sense....
Thanks! Noting to myself - I feel like this video could be improved with a moment devoted to whether or not the drop-down could be extended indefinitely down a column, how, and what the implications are
Thanks for the explanation. I want to be show how to make a dropdown box from a dropped down box and repeated many times. I want to use this for family tree starting with grand papa up to future great grand children. Thank you.

How can I create drop down for choosing a date?
@@guytaylor8496 unfortunately you can't do it out of the box. There are third party plug ins that give you that capability.
Didn't work automatic input for new value
Basically my boss thinks I’m like really talented. Nope I just pull up these videos ever time I need to do something new in excel. Thanks man!
