Loved the review and the intimate parodies involved, but as a person who's been interested in these S400 MKII's and waiting for Darko's take on them, I'm left feeling confused as to what he actually thinks of them. Haha
I agree. It feels like a review that John was forced to do rather than one he wanted to which is odd. I guess he wouldn’t “highly recommend” if he wasn’t serious but the whole thing feels like he’s taking the p*ss. I also have been waiting for this review for about 6 months and am none the wiser after this. A comparison to the LS50 meta was what I wanted (because like John I own those) I guess I will have to buy them and find out for myself. Oh woe is me,. [Edit] : I had no idea it was April. Hey ... now, I just came back from Montreal Audiofest ... the playlist is so accurate, it’s ridiculous. PS Audio was demo-ing their new speakers to an empty room. So they put on Take Five and within a minute the room was full. Audiophiles were attracted to it like flies to a sh*t.

The mkii’s are great speakers. I had the originals and then bought the mkii’s, and after I’d been playing them for a while, my wife came down into the man cave and said “I was listening upstairs - what did you do to your speakers? Because the crossover point used to be 2000hz and these are crossing over at 1800”.

never had Buchardt speakers before but didn't hesitate to order the MKII as I had watched loads of positive reviews of its predecessor and its active siblings. been using the MKII for over six months, love it! for music and for movies.

I audioioned the A-500 due to your review, couldn't be happier! Only problem with them is the communication from the wireless hub to the speakers has problems at times, otherwise the sound is just beautiful. Buchardts' response and follow up is first rate.

I watched this at about 4:00am Central time here in the U.S., and pretty much knew from the beginning this was an April Fool's episode - all the absolutes, the lack of comparisons, "can't get enough of...", and the final stroke, Diana Krall. The show cracked me up, but left me wondering what you really thought of the S400's. Thanks for the change of pace. Great show as usual.
Not that I can’t swing the 400 Euros I just really love my (sand filled) Pangea Audio DS400 stands. At 30 inches high might that be too tall for the Buchardts?
I liked the opening statement. It used to slightly bug me when 1'st time visiting friends would say "i see you really like your stereo equipment" ...."no" i'd say, "i really like music & the equipment is just a means to an end, it helps you enjoy your music better" i'm sure they understood after they heard it, i could tell by comments made. We were all about 20 then & that was in single manufacturer's tower rack system with smoked glass door & a flimsy t/table on top ...days, when my (all s/h) Thorens TD150/SME, Radford *STA25 (*if memory serves me well) vintage valve amp & pre with KEF 3'way Concerto's & later, Quad ELS 57's with the matching Quad II valve monos & pre, both systems blew tower rack systems out of the water at a fraction** of their cost. i.e.**before eBay's vintage gear looney high prices. After a while of hearing that, i tailored my response to sound smart & i'd reply with "i don't buy L.P.s to hear my stereo or i'd only own 2 or 3, i buy the equipment to hear my L.P.s" My other niggle was when i had speakers that didnt seem all that big to me but did to new visiting friends who would often say "cor, i bet they go loud dont they" with no raise of pitch at the end to make it a question (in English at least, unlike every Aussie accented statement) Then i"d have to explain how it's all about quality & not loudness.
APRIL FOOLS!!! That was a blast LOL! I loved the pseudo subtlety of the whole thing, especially the not mentioned but couple of shots of the Diana Krall album, a Darko top 10 favorite! Loved the soundstage that extended to the neighbors flat and out the balcony! LOL. I am disappointed that there was no mention of the Red Hot Chili Peppers though! Are they growing on you John? Like a fungus perhaps? What a riot! Well done!
RHCP would have been perfect... Some of the other missed opportunities were some kind of lengthy commentary on the history and performance of some kind of obscure chamber piece and the speakers' ability to render it with unparalleled delicacy, and, when he talked about the bass, first throwing in some kind of random drum test track, and second he should have qualified it as "pants-flapping." OH - THE BIGGEST MISS OF ALL - HE SHOULD HAVE RECORDED A DEMO FOR US TO LISTEN TO, PREFERABLY WITH AN A/B COMPARISON
You have to hear the Amphion Argone One spaeker. This brand Amphion is rarely reviewed. I am not a salesman, just a hifi lover who came in contact with a pair of very good sounding speakers for smaller rooms. Amphion is made in Finland and are handbild. Love your work Ludo
Everyone seems to drool over these Buchardts. What makes them so great? Totally believe you. As many "audiophiles" that have reviewed them continue to wax poetic about their sound. Looks like a very robust woofer and the nice gradual slope of the tweeter's tapered baffle, but I don't understand why other speakers of similar design don't elicit such excitement. Thanks for saying, its about the music.
From my point of view, the crossover could still be reworked to completely straighten out the frequency response, which would also have a very positive effect on some of the Red Hot Chili Peppers' songs. Many greetings from Cologne.
The imaging on these speakers is so good, my neighbour knocked and asked if I had a jazz band in my house! I pointed to my iPhone and said "Nope! It's a Buchardt s400 review!".

You make these speakers sound so amazing, I don't know if I should sell my new B&W802D4s and upgrade to these. Kidding but I wish there was some kind of ranking of speakers. Perhaps something that would rank their dynamics, frequency response, lack of distortion etc. That way we perhaps could compare the overall sound of these speakers and how they would rank against some high-end or low-end B&W speakers or any other brand. Unfortunately, most of us don't have the opportunity to just sit and listen to numerous brands of speakers and compare them. I do like your music suggestions. I would probably have some good ones that you might like as well.

It used to slightly bug me when 1'st time visiting friends would say "i see you really like your stereo equipment" ...."no" i'd say, "i really like music & the equipment is just a means to an end, it helps you enjoy your music better" i'm sure they understood after they heard it, i could tell by comments made. We were all about 20 then & that was in single manufacturer's tower rack system with smoked glass door & a flimsy t/table on top ...days, when my (all s/h) Thorens TD150/SME, Radford *STA25 (*if memory serves me well) vintage valve amp & pre with KEF 3'way Concerto's & later, Quad ELS 57's with the matching Quad II valve monos & pre, both systems blew tower rack systems out of the water at a fraction** of their cost. i.e.**before eBay's vintage gear looney high prices.
After a while of hearing that, i tailored my response to sound smart & i'd reply with "i don't buy L.P.s to hear my stereo or i'd only own 2 or 3, i buy the equipment to hear my L.P.s"
My other niggle was when i had speakers that didnt seem all that big to me but did to new visiting friends who would often say "cor, i bet they go loud dont they" with no raise of pitch at the end to make it a question (in English at least, unlike every Aussie accented statement) Then i"d have to explain how it's all about quality & not loudness.
APRIL FOOLS!!! That was a blast LOL! I loved the pseudo subtlety of the whole thing, especially the not mentioned but couple of shots of the Diana Krall album, a Darko top 10 favorite! Loved the soundstage that extended to the neighbors flat and out the balcony! LOL. I am disappointed that there was no mention of the Red Hot Chili Peppers though! Are they growing on you John? Like a fungus perhaps? What a riot! Well done!

RHCP would have been perfect... Some of the other missed opportunities were some kind of lengthy commentary on the history and performance of some kind of obscure chamber piece and the speakers' ability to render it with unparalleled delicacy, and, when he talked about the bass, first throwing in some kind of random drum test track, and second he should have qualified it as "pants-flapping." OH - THE BIGGEST MISS OF ALL - HE SHOULD HAVE RECORDED A DEMO FOR US TO LISTEN TO, PREFERABLY WITH AN A/B COMPARISON

You have to hear the Amphion Argone One spaeker. This brand Amphion is rarely reviewed. I am not a salesman, just a hifi lover who came in contact with a pair of very good sounding speakers for smaller rooms. Amphion is made in Finland and are handbild.

Everyone seems to drool over these Buchardts. What makes them so great? Totally believe you. As many "audiophiles" that have reviewed them continue to wax poetic about their sound. Looks like a very robust woofer and the nice gradual slope of the tweeter's tapered baffle, but I don't understand why other speakers of similar design don't elicit such excitement. Thanks for saying, its about the music.
From my point of view, the crossover could still be reworked to completely straighten out the frequency response, which would also have a very positive effect on some of the Red Hot Chili Peppers' songs. Many greetings from Cologne.

The imaging on these speakers is so good, my neighbour knocked and asked if I had a jazz band in my house! I pointed to my iPhone and said "Nope! It's a Buchardt s400 review!".
This review is as good, if not better, than one with 2 or 3 times as many views. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

You make these speakers sound so amazing, I don't know if I should sell my new B&W802D4s and upgrade to these. Kidding but I wish there was some kind of ranking of speakers. Perhaps something that would rank their dynamics, frequency response, lack of distortion etc. That way we perhaps could compare the overall sound of these speakers and how they would rank against some high-end or low-end B&W speakers or any other brand. Unfortunately, most of us don't have the opportunity to just sit and listen to numerous brands of speakers and compare them. I do like your music suggestions. I would probably have some good ones that you might like as well.
