Just purchased the Covington Planter, very swell working and smooth with planting sweet corn, blue corn. First seen the Covington Planter on stevenstractor video upload, researched it and bought it. Thanks for the tips/help and recommedation for the planter. Very very good asset for small acre farming.

Take that darn small hopper off, put on the large twin hopper and turn that Covington into a speed master duplex. I have used them for years!!

Very well done. Thanks for the great detail and pace of teaching. I would like to have seen something on the fertilizer hopper/distribution. Thanks, Rick

I have one of these planters. I used it only once. I planted sugar snap peas with it. I bought the cotton can for planting carrots and some turnups in the fall. Dont know how well it will work for carrots will find out this weekend.

I used the covington planter to plant corn, pole beans, peas, orka. It work great on all seeds except the orka. When I planted orka it kept locking up.

I have one just like yours I'm restoring and will use it later his year. Can you do one with some information on the fertilizer hopper, Also when you go down a row are you coming back up with the opposite tire in the previous one grove ? Great job

I notice he uses the spring tooth instead of the 5 shank one row. Which would you recommend? How much is a one point fast hitch add on?

I like it, but the boxes look too small. How many times would you have to
refill to plant an acre of corn?

are the bungee straps on the fertilizer hopper to hold out the drop tubes away from the row?

Hi, When using your kubota and covington, what was your row spacing for the corn? I have a similar size (L3130), but with industrial tread tires. I've got 52" from center to center tire and cannot figure out a way to make a narrower row than 52". The planting charts all pretty much say 22" to 38" spacing between rows. Do you have any advice on what I can do? Thanks, Rick - Tennessee

Hi Rick. Did you work out your row spacing problem? If not this might help. When you start to make your second row, put your tires between the row that you just made and the previous tire tracks. This will give you about a 26 inch row. I don't know your tire width, but this should work. Our tractor has a 60 inch width. We plant 30 inch rows with a 2 row planter, 15 inches from the center of the tire to the center of the first planter, 30 inches between the planters, then another 15 inches to the middle of second tire. I hope this helps.

tkguyok Hi. Thanks for the tip. I have not tried anything new since my last post, but will give your suggestion a try. It sounds like that should work out.
      Thanks again, Rick

tkguyok I took your advice, and this worked much better. As a visual aide, I set the outermost cultivator shanks on each side to leave a small furrow that made it easier for me to see where to set my front wheel on my return trip. I have the construction tread tire, which is a very wide tire, and was able to get my rows down to around 38-40 inches. Thanks again for the tip. Rick - Tennessee

How do I set the fertilize hopper for the correct amount to drop from the different seeds?

I have this planter that I bought used from a gentleman in Georgia about three years ago. I've been having trouble with it dropping several seeds at one time and then leaving a space before dropping several more. Is the problem coming from not keeping the tractor moving when lowering and lifting?

    • @flyboyzach07

Gary, usually when u have skips or doubles/triples it comes from incorrect seed plates being used; but also can come from running the planter to fast as well for sure. Also the tilt of the grain attachment or seed boxes can effect ur seed pickup too. Getting the angle right on the seed boxes is critical to eliminate doubles/triples and keep the single seed it picked up in the plate slots. U definitely wanna lower and raise the planter while moving, and when ur to the end of ur rows, just stop & get off, spin the press wheels and let a few seed drop to make sure ur seed tubes aren't stopped up or anything. I have the two row speedmaster Covington's and usually when I'm planting corn...when I am at the end of the row I ease the planter up very slowly while moving forward and the press wheel will turn while the disc openers are coming out of the dirt and it'll strow a few seeds on top of the dirt and that'll let ya know nothings stopped up too if that makes since! Hope this helps.

Why do you need to drive so slow? Other regular corn planters are made to plant 5mph or faster...
