    I went from a 65" C9 to the 77" G2. I thought about a 65" QD OLED but wanted to go with a bigger screen being I have a dedicated room for my Home theater. My one big negative is the mounting hardware. The mount itself is great, but the screws and wall anchors don't seem to be matched well. When we put the Wall Anchors in, the screws would just turn the anchors once they got around half way in, making them useless. We ended up making a secondary wall with pinewood and 3 locations. The upper portion where the mount was to be attached, middle and lower 3rd, so the Tv would sit flush. All the pine board was secured into studs at 3 different locations, and this ended being a much better solution given even if the wall anchors did work since we wouldn't have been able to hit any studs. As for the picture itself, I absolutely love the TV, big improvement over my previous C9. I don't have a PC hooked up to it as my PC is in my office/game room connected to a Samsung Neo G9. However I think this fall when the new GPUs come out I'll build a gaming system for the theater room and any controller based games I'll play on the G2.

      @@camarykaren there wont really be a big improvement from a woled to another. It is a bit brighter yes.. but its just white light anyway and u will lose even more colour saturation bright hdr scenes.

    • @ThaiNguyen-mh8eu
      @ThaiNguyen-mh8eu 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@camarykaren I'm no tech expert like Vincent but I'll do what I can from an average person's point of view. It's noticeably brighter in all aspects. That's the most obvious, both in SDR and in HDR. Everything just has little more punch in terms of color and detail. Probably do to the increased brightness of the panel. In my theater room when I'm watching movies or shows at night I run it with a bias back light on only So during certain scenes say in space where they pan to a large star or in a dark scenes when they pan to a bright light say a flashlight, it can be almost blinding. I never got that with my C9. Motion seems a bit smoother, still have a bit of that OLED judder when panning during scenes but it's not as bad. Also the ABL, hasn't been noticed at all. My C9 especially in prolonged dark scenes it would kick in all the time. Then there's the obvious, screen size. 77" is much more immersive then the 65". I moved up my seats in the room to keep the same viewing distance as when I had my C9. So the combination of all those factors make a big difference in overall experience. I felt the weak link in my home theater has always been the immersion factor of the TV. Now that' no longer the case. Now if only streaming services would upgrade their bitrate on their audio.

    Vincent was bamboozled by increased white-subpixel output.
    This G2 has 12% decreased color volume compared to last year's G1. And will not do orange flames as a result.
    Apparently they aren't simply driving the panel harder as Vincent was lead to believe, but more specifically driving the white sub-pixel harder, leading to increased color dilution and lack of color volume.
    G1 - DCI-P3 volume 86.3%
    G2 - DCI-P3 volume 77.8%
    An entry level LCD from 2019 has higher color volume than an LG G2.
    For those unfamiliar, you need 100% color volume, to produce the entire range of colors in a given color space.
    -DCI-P3 being the commonly used color-space in HDR.
    The greatest trick the G2 ever pulled was tricking a "Calibrator" into believing the brightness gain was actually being done correctly.
    *Nope!* LG using the same old aproach of increasing brightness by straight up diluting the colors with added White light. Only this time much more than ever before! Breaking that 1000 nits barrier was very important now, for obvious reasons, who needs colors? Said only LG.
    A Samsung S95B Oled actually have 120% DCI-P3 coverage,
    meaning that it can fully produce the entire color spectrum of DCI-P3 and well into the even larger color-space BT-2020.
    It also have 20% wider color-gamut.
    40% higher color volume
    33% higher peak brightness
    Vastly improved viewing angles
    Vastly improved screen-uniformity
    Free of WRGB near-black gradiation.
    True RGB
    No wonder people think it looks so good.
    But most likely Vincent will find the most conservatively graded 200 nits - Rec.709 material he can scrape up, to use in his comparison.
    making sure that everything showcased can exist within the narrow confines of LG G2's specifications.
    Can't disappoint your employees at LG, now can we?
    Also, for people watching the comparison at home on their own LG WOLED, - like how do you expect to see what a QD-OLED is capable of, when it's far outside what your own panel can physically output....
    You have to get a demo in a show-room and preferably see some 2000 nits graded BT2020 stuff, that will actually demonstrate it's extremely insane specs.
    Arguing for LG's superior color accuracy, comes off as ill- informed, knowing that 23% of the colors are entirely missing, which should be observed as an immense inaccuracy.

      @geoff no I'm still on the 77" C1.
      It's the best price/performance 77" available.
      I can be in a debate about Ferrari vs Lamborghini, even though it's outside my price range.
      Why is that so difficult for you to understand?
      If I were very wealthy, I would have bought a A95K 65" here in 2022.
      Sadly I'm not, and I will wait this one out, get a large QD-OLED in 3-5 years aprox.

    • @hdtvtest
      @hdtvtest  2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @Tuii: We are not employed by LG. If we were, why would LG let us point out the shortcomings on the G2 in this very review, such as the removal of 120Hz black frame insertion at 3:23 in this video, the off-axis pink tint at 5:13, the undertracking of PQ EOTF with HGiG Game Mode at 8:00, the VRR flicker & gamma shift at 9:00, etc?
      It's clear that you're feeling hurt because we called out the manipulative brightness and colour boosting implemented by Samsung Visual Display on the S95B, which managed to fool even an ISF calibrator. The reason why Samsung Visual Display needed to go to such lengths is because they know even though QD-OLED is technically superior, the brightness/ colour differences would only manifest themselves in a handful of real-world content.
      Yes, the Samsung S95B is capable of higher colour volume and brightness, but almost every luminance and colour output from 0 nits upwards is inaccurate. What's the point of driving the fastest car when you're going in the wrong direction?

I recently viewed the S955B at best buy and it look like a qled with perfect blacks and better detail. I was wowed by the samsung sauce. Thank you Vincent for mentioning on other TVs SoC, and what to expect. I think I will wait next year so all the LG competition can have the approrpriate SoC. I expect I will be able to get a product that I wont regret with the next years model since it will have all the expected features.
    And there should be an option to mod the TV's SoC, similar to how certain electronics use cheaper capacitors that burn quicker, with a chance to burn electronics itself. People could just replace the capacitor with higher quality ones, and thus we should be able to get premium parts that match the premium hardware with better SoCs.
    However, to reach that level of modification that is considered good, then we need more 3rd party OS'es that can match the quality of Sony in terms of processing as well. I think there is possibly a business opportunity since these TV manufactures that makes the panels are a separate entity and anyone's business can buy their panels if they put them to good use, which as a result increasing the competition to be more competitive for more quality products.
    So hypotetically if someone doesnt like OS of samsung, but likes their panels, they should be able to buy their panel and get some reputable 3rd party to install SoC and OS, which I assume would still have warranty. It doesnt only have to be high end, it could also be for low end solutions as well but also may be the person has google at home and wants more google.

It's why it still didn't beat the a90j in yellow and orange flames as Vincent explained. He is saving the comparison of showing the dilution/color volume against qd oled as he stated. But the reason wrgb oled tvs have less color volume is due to the white sub pixel. Since lg is pushing it harder with nothing in place to combat it like sony who does quad sub pixel boosting. Last year LG offered a free LG XBOOM PL5 speaker with any purchase of a LG OLED C1/G1. I never noticed, but the speaker wasn't setup properly by default in the TV. Volume was set to 0 and it was being used in a surround sound mode. Sometimes it didn't Auto Connect via Bluetooth. So center channel audio for dialogue was terrible. After some tinkering everything works as intended, but it wasn't easy. You have to set it to simultaneous audio and pump up the volume. Then you can switch to the AI Pro sound setting. You will hear a slight echo/reverb in the dialogue, which is the delay going over bluetooth vs the built-in wired audio. Set the delay to 10-25 msec, until the reverb is gone. You might have to connect via bluetooth every time you turn on the TV and Speaker. Maybe turn on the TV first, and then the speaker after 10 seconds, so it auto connects.

    Could you please add a Calman test called "Peak Luminance Stability" to your comparison "G2 vs S95B" (and/or the single reviews) ?
    I am very much interested in how these two tvs handle brightness over time ... peak luminance values are "nice to have" but are somewhat irrelevant if these tvs are not capable to maintain them during actual viewing content in rl imho.

    If you don’t talk in the review about some negatives as the loss of color volume and color gamut in high brightness, because you are “saving it” for a comparison video with the qdoled, you are being biased.
    Why such tricks , when credibility is what have put you where you are and not LG.
    Your audience is not the average consumer and will notice as you can see in other comments

    • @hdtvtest
      @hdtvtest  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Enzel02: We have pointed out many shortcomings of the LG G2 in this review, such as removal of 120Hz black frame insertion at 3:23 in this video, the off-axis pink tint at 5:13, the undertracking of PQ EOTF with HGiG Game Mode at 8:00, the VRR flicker & gamma shift at 9:00, etc. If we are biased, why would we demonstrate these shortcomings?
      We have been experimenting with spreading out our reviews over more than one video, because if we had to do an all-exhaustive review where no stone is unturned, we'll never finish editing & publishing a video review when we have so many other videos to do. The Wonder Woman side-by-side comparison at 12:12 in this video is literally alluding to colour saturation at high brightness which we will cover in the follow-up video.
