I’ve got a 2016 set of lyrics, would the newer 2020+ decal shape/design still work on my forks or are the proportions Different ? (Not because I want to make my forks look newer just the colour I want is only available for the newer design)
I don't know why they wouldn't. I have been using Slik Graphic www.slikgraphics.com/ for my bikes. They allow you to customize the color on the decals. They might be a little more expensive but you can match your bike really well.

Where did u put the other decals?
I did not use the Slick logo decals. I put the new rebound sticker just above the rebound knob and the small Lyirk on the the fork bridge.
Is there a clear coat Paint on the original decal before u apply the heat gun on it?
The was no clear coat on the fork. It doesn't take much heat to get the glue to loosen up.
