I just ran in to this problem , I took the deus 2 to the beach and started with a full charge, hunted for a couple hours and it was still reading a nearly full charge when I was done so I thought it would be fine for the next day but no ,as soon as I turned it on it showed as almost dead batteries on the coil so I charged it over night and the next morning still low, I was used to the equinox going days without recharging .
What do I do now? Took it out first time for about 2 hours. Charged it up as soon as I returned home. The next morning the coil was dead and the remote shows it fully "discharged". It doesn't seem to want to recharge ... not good.
Dr. J. One of my concerns about the Deus 2 was... I heard that if you overcharge the coil you can damage it. I asked my detector dealer, about that. He said he leaves his machine ( Deus 1 ) including the coil... on the charger so it will be ready when he is ready. But he said too... he uses a charger called Anker?? A charger with over charge protection. I donno... I'm thinking about putting my Deus 2 up for sale. I like a machine that goes beep without a degree in electronics, and uses regular batteries. I haven't even hunted with it yet... I've just used the controller and trying to figure out navigation... so I'm not standing in the park working my controller like a Bimbo with a Cell Phone. For no more than I hunt... it's way too much cookie for me !
Jeff, I had the same problem with my x-35 9 coil , I went to change the battery and found the batery plug was glued compleatly over, making it impossible to change the battery- I will never buy another- switching to the HF coil
Jeremy, I thought it was just me but in 6 or so hours my coil looked like it was almost dead. My Deus 1, I ran on 12 kHz, transmit power of 3 and hunting all day, never had my coil battery die this quick. The book from what I recall, said the Deus 2 had longer battery life than original Deus I believe? I’m not seeing that at all.
I have the same problem with the 9 inch coil. *GENERAL* program with minor adjustment such as sens and reactivity. After 6 and a half hours the disk battery is empty.
I have tried other hats the last couple years and my camera just wobbles around and makes rubbing noises on these new hats. My camera has been on this Simplex hat for thousands and thousands of hours and my camera just fits snug on it.
I have 11" coil , on general program no 1 it is lasting around 9 hrs max, manual states 12hrs deep hc program a lot less . here in the uk i detect for around 7 -8hrs at a time , so unable to use the lower frequency programs all day. this is disappointing as my equinox lasts all day no matter what program i use.
I would love a small coil. I ordered the 11" and I'm worried now that this machine will be really hard to use effectively in trashy areas with that larger coil. Great advice though, thanks!
This is bad news, I can run multifrequency or single frequency from 7 A.M. till dark in the summer with my Equinox and it might die sometimes in the last hour, and it's almost 3 years old. I have spare machines in case of a breakage. But I'm not really into buying a 1500-dollar machine that lasts half a day. Thanks for the heads up!!
My day started at 7:00 am at the beach today. Ran my D2 in Beach Sense and Park. Then I went to the park and ran it in Deep HC, a battery guzzling program. When I wrapped up at 5:30pm, I had one bar on the coil. Unfortunately, that could mean 1% to 30% though I expect it to be near 20% because when I arrived at the park it was at 2 out of 3 bars. But the point is it was still going. XP is clear in the manual what the hours of run time are for the coil. For serious, more than 12 hour hunts, I will carry a coil clip, cable and a spare battery if my coil needs a boost. And when I get multiple coils for the D2, it will be a non-issue.
Sad to see that happen in 2022 ,battery should be better ,on Deus 2 .did some tester report the problem ? hope they will fix that with a recall coil for exchange. takecare Jeremy
I'm noticing the same short battery life issue with my Deus 2 w/11" coil.I'm hoping enough people complain that there is a fix or compensation. Spending $1,600. on a MD is a lot. I was trying to hold-out for the Makro Legend, but couldn't wait.
I will probably cave and get a D2, but I will be patient and wait a year until most of these issues are resolved and the used ones are available. I already went through this with my D1 in getting the regular coil, then X35, then HF coils, better more comfortable headphones ..man this gets expensive to drop 2-3k to go another two inches down?? Idk sticking with my D1 for now is sounding better everyday
You touched on some good points about hrs on the battery.. I like what I see in how it performs.. I not thrilled with the Cost. I always carry a back up detector with me. But as a coin shooter I feel this detector is way out of my league.
Hello. Did you test Macro Racer 2 with Big coil (Nel Tornado) or the stock one.. i get deus 2 and this Racer with NEL is a little bit more deep... And what you think.. will they increase the depth and battery capacity with software updates ?
I did not test the Racer 2 much. It has the overload tone which does not work in totlots or big iron relic dumps. I will be field testing the Deus 2 v.7 when it is launched.
I charged mine the other day, went out for 2-3 hours and came home, went out this morning and used it for an hour and it died, my deus1 lasted forever, I could go out 4 days in a row and it never died in the 5 years I used it.
I run into the following problem and don't trust the deus two at the moment. I have been running with an XP detector, Gmaxx II, Deus 1 and ORX for many years and now for a few weeks with the deus 2. I've searched with it four times now, twice a whole day. where I have had an empty battery twice now in the 9 inch disk after 6 and a half hours the battery is empty. I have never had an empty battery with any other xp detector after a day of searching. With the old deus 1 which is now 6 years old I still walk for 12 hours or more without any problems. *GENERAL* program with minor adjustment such as sens and reactivity. After 6 and a half hours the disk battery is empty.
I have the same problem with the D2 also. I had my coil battery die on the D2 9" many times half through the day. I used the Deus 1 for thousands of hours...only had a dead coil 3 times. The Deus 2 is deep but does not separate well. I hope XP will fix some bugs on the D2 soon.

Coils are very expensive!! Not an option for most detectorists. I just stick to the higher frequencies and have had very good results after 2000 hours on my D2.
That's not right. If you understand how lipo batteries work you would know that a lipo has a nominal storage charge of 3.7-3.8v. You should always leave them half charged unless using them within a few hours. A lipo stored at full charge consistently will have a substantially lower battery life over time than one being stored at storage voltage. A lithium ion battery like an 18650 is totally different and should be charged after use. If you want to get the most out of your lipos in your detector only charge them when you plan to use them. Charging overnight isn't a real problem as they have built in over voltage protection. The issues arise when leaving them fully charged for long periods. Long periods may only be 24 hours plus. I see this all the time in race drones I fly. If I charge and leave them too long before flying it destroys the battery. Running them down below 3v per cell does exactly the same thing but can be far worse. I've literally destroyed lipos in a single flight.

Yes and who runs that long? Its just a hobby, i dont have to live from it.

if you had your deus2 die, how quickly could you charge on the fly, say in your truck and return to digging that same day?
