So, 48 hours ago while on a brief business trip to SoCal, I decided to go down the dial (dating myself) to where the College and Public radio stations usually are in most every state. This song was playing on WKCR on a late Wednesday night (yes; I remember the day and time on the way to the hotel after another boring business dinner). I truly didn’t get it for the first 40 or so seconds - what the heck is this? Weird key changes. Weird arrangement and tracking. I was about to flick up the dial and get away and then suddenly a shift to a different movement and a haunting, entrancing chorus. It all came together like a flash. I felt like I was a teen again and listening to Björk. You don’t get it at first - until you shut up and listen. I yelled at Siri to ID the track! 12 hours later I’m into a deep dive of her catalog.

When I listen to Saya I feel like there is a strong math behind those masterpieces. It sounds like everything is added perfectly in dose.
Agreed.
It’s as if every instrument and every added element in the song has been correctly played in the way she plays it out.
Saya Gray
