This mod is ridiculously accurate to the patterns and unnatural movement of surfaces that comes with way too much acid. This is just so spot on with a bad trip. The visuals are a bit more opaque than anything I've experienced before, but it still behaves so similar. I remember back in the day having a bad trip by myself after getting home one night from yet another rave, seeing eyes and veins all over every single surface in my living room and trying to play Shenmue on Dreamcast to chill myself out - which didn't work out at all. It took a few trips before I started having good ones again because my brain would worry and end up seeing all the same shit that freaked me out the last time.

I once saw this kind of shifting machine image recognition described as "the closest visual representation we have of eldritch beings/reality" because the machine being unable to interpret what it's being shown and providing amalgamations of things that it knows (like eyes and dogs) would be very comparable to your brain being unable to comprehend an eldritch being, and trying to make sense of it through trying to recognize things that *do* make sense to your brain, constantly shifting because it's "recognizing" things that aren't there so when the smallest change happens it has to try to reinterpret what you're seeing into something you can process. When you have no point of reference to even begin understanding what your looking at, your brain tries to interpret that into something you *can* understand, but utterly fails at it, over and over again, causing distress as you can't comprehend what's around you. All the references you made to this "making your brain hurt" really drove that idea home for me.
I was poring over this footage you made, and when you focused on the pillar, I noticed that some of the 'faces' were actually a doge meme. Upon rewatching those frames specifically, I couldn't see it at all, which implies to me that the images are purely interpretive. However, I did notice that in nearly every level, there /are/ consistencies. Dogs, in particular. Though other animals are there as well. You mentioned a frog, I spotted a few cats, and one or two other things. Very neat mod. Will have to try it out for myself.

Man, I haven't thought about the Deep Dream AI Image generator in a hot minute, I remember the trippy mod for Fallout: New Vegas that ran all their textures through Deep Dream too. I wonder how they did the wavey effect to all the generated textures though
the image shifting is actually one of the better depictions of the the effects of Lsd that i have seen. not the waviness, but the way the pixels shift from one image to another. it’s actually pretty uncanny

The version of the wad you play does in fact work on the latest version of GZDoom, the author only said that it has only *been tested on* 3.5.1. I went ahead and opened the file onto a Doom Complete (WADsmoosh) iwad on GZDoom 4.10.0, and it seems completely fine!

About GZDoom being on your second monitor: I do remember this happening to me with GZDoom on a couple occasions. There's a command you can put into the console to get it to show up on the other monitor. In the console, type vid_listadaptors and find which one is your main one. Then type vid_adaptor . It should show up on the correct one after that but you might need to restart your client. Hope that helps.
Hey Midnight, I've been following your videos, several times now (including in this one) I've seen you skip the chainsaw on E1M2. When you press that button surrounded by acid where the imp is, then go into the maze, in that hall where the lights are blinking and the two imps are is a wall that can be opened. It's hard to explain it, but it's basically the back wall. All you have to do is punch or shoot it with any gun and it will open. The staircases lead up to the room with a switch which lowers the platform with the chainsaw sitting on it. Apologies in advance if you already knew this secret. Love the videos, keep them coming!
About the issue with the monitors, in the configuration you can choose which is the main screen and also change the order of the monitors instead of 1-2 to 2-1, by simply dragging the screens. 😉

the mod is doom on 3g of golden teachers basically. really the first thing that came into my mind lsd is more mental, and I as most of people I know cannot hallucinate nature on it, but more like thoughts, and fractals, but never seen any eyes. on high doses like 1000ug or more there were entities, but they never looked the same as on shrooms, and in this mod just a heads up
My head hurts just watching it. I am normally immune to many things that can make a person dizzy such as sea sickness or roller coaster rides, but this is one of the few things that made me dizzy.

A little bit about why the game kept opening on your second monitor: Older games used to snap to the top leftmost point of your display and expand outward to the resolution of your monitor for fullscreen games. Since your second monitor was positioned at the left side of the canvas, the top left corner of your display was the top left of your second screen.
Hey Midnight, I'm a bit new to your channel so I apologize for asking if you've already seen it, but have you checked out the Augur;Zenith Doom megawad? It's a pretty damned cool Cyberpunk themed wad file, and as someone with a huge hard-on for cyberpunk in general, I found it to be one of my absolute favorite wads.
I recognize that art style very clearly. There was a project in the very very early stages of AI image development called "Deep Dream". It would "Dream" and generate an image for you. It was very much characterized by lots of eyes, teeth, and basic architecture. The idea was that the computer was dreaming based on all the information it was given. This is basically a super unrefined AI image generator. Specifically, this mod looks like they did a "dream" of every texture, sprite, image, everything. They then took those "dreams" and put them on an animation that goes between the dream and the original image, then put on a shader to give it that wobbly aesthetic and extra variance in how the textures animate between the two versions of each image. Excellent and trippy application of this.

I just thought to look up this mod and now that I'm watching this, I just remembered I had a dream about mushrooms last night, even though it's been quite a while.
LSD in a nutshell: *Sees creatures and demons, and eyes watching him* "This pole has me very interested" *stares at a pole for half an hour* "Me siento un poco débil."
This looks like it's running Doom through Deep Dream-type image convolution, though I do not recall any animated implementation. Basically, back in 2015, Google's early work at machine learning image generation involved running the resulting algorithms "backwards" to alter images into high recognition results so as to be sure it was actually recognizing the intended features instead of weird tertiary factors. After being open-sourced, it's since become the foundation for a lot of image-to-image work like the anime-girl filters. The reason for all the eyes is because they're extremely high entropy, in information terms. Loads of edges, lot of color gradients, relative position is very important, so when you make the model force an image to be like the category of something with eyes, it will absolutely riddle it with the things because they're a huge part of how it recognizes what it's looking for (at least back then)
(I wrote all of this before getting to 21:10 and don't want to scrap all of it just because it turned out to be wrong) I'm pretty sure what they did is this: First, they took every texture, image, animation frame, etc. from regular Doom and ran them through an AI. It was likely Artbreeder, with the chaos slider turned way up, and using "genes" from pictures of several different animals: those I can identify as likely candidates are parakeet, Australian cattle dog (or a similar looking breed of dog), and chimpanzee. Then they added that wobbly warping effect over all the resulting images, messed around with lighting and a few other things, et voila. Different places and textures appear to have different effects on them: the wall textures look like they were run through Artbreeder with "genes" from pictures of building facades instead of animals, the texture brightness oscillates in certain areas (the trippy room from 9:02), et cetera.

This looks like it's running Doom through Deep Dream-type image convolution, though I do not recall any animated implementation. Basically, back in 2015, Google's early work at machine learning image generation involved running the resulting algorithms "backwards" to alter images into high recognition results so as to be sure it was actually recognizing the intended features instead of weird tertiary factors. After being open-sourced, it's since become the foundation for a lot of image-to-image work like the anime-girl filters.
The reason for all the eyes is because they're extremely high entropy, in information terms. Loads of edges, lot of color gradients, relative position is very important, so when you make the model force an image to be like the category of something with eyes, it will absolutely riddle it with the things because they're a huge part of how it recognizes what it's looking for (at least back then)

Maybe it is true that everyone sees something very different cuz, I didn't think it looked that bad. It was almost satisfying to watch.
(I wrote all of this before getting to 21:10 and don't want to scrap all of it just because it turned out to be wrong)
I'm pretty sure what they did is this: First, they took every texture, image, animation frame, etc. from regular Doom and ran them through an AI. It was likely Artbreeder, with the chaos slider turned way up, and using "genes" from pictures of several different animals: those I can identify as likely candidates are parakeet, Australian cattle dog (or a similar looking breed of dog), and chimpanzee. Then they added that wobbly warping effect over all the resulting images, messed around with lighting and a few other things, et voila. Different places and textures appear to have different effects on them: the wall textures look like they were run through Artbreeder with "genes" from pictures of building facades instead of animals, the texture brightness oscillates in certain areas (the trippy room from 9:02), et cetera.
the look of ai generated/acid trip pictures moving always makes me shudder and makes my skin crawl
