@spaceomni Since The Offspring normally does not have more than 2 guitar tracks, the 3rd guitarist is not really needed to prevent them of having "thin sound" as you call it. Since the Intro and the whole song has (mostly) one guitar track, and rarely two tracks. What he plays in the intro is the part noodles plays too. And he would never be playing a different chord progression! This would sound, in any way you try, simply wrong. Maybe he's just there for backing vocals, and pretends to play ^^
@PunkGuitar4Life you're absolutely wrong mister, the third guitarist it's not to cover the mistakes they make, he may be playing a different chord progression (wich makes a more filling and powerful sound) and if you notice the intro solo wich dexter does, the touring guitarist is playing the rhythm progression that dexter should be playing instead of the solo. The loss of a rhythm guitar can considerably thin out the sound of the band so they make up for it by adding another guitarist. Simple.
Honestly, as an act they aren't all that animated. Went to a Switchfoot gig the other day and it was one hell of a show. not commenting on different music styles, but their 'act' could be better
