This is a great story, and Judge Valentine "Wall" Hatfield (Powers Boothe) gets right to the heart of it in this scene. Anse Hatfield's (Kevin Costner) temper, and Randall McCoy's (Bill Paxton) inability to let go of a grudge, lead to the final result.
The actor who played Perry Cline in this series was Ronan Vibert. He passed away in 2022. His other acting credits included Tales from the Crypt, Shadow of the Vampire, The Pianist, Tomb Raider 2, Rome, Saving Mr. Banks, and Penny Dreadful. R.I.P 🙏🏼🙏🏼
This is the role that made me appreciate Kevin Costner as an actor, but I have to admit Bill Paxton did a damn good job as well as Randall McCoy. He portrays the role of a self-righteous, grudge bearing mountain man very well.
@thecowboy9698, kinda late in his career to start appreciating Costner. I’ll admit though, I wasn’t a big fan of his early on, but he won me over, and well before this series. Not being critical of you though. Art is surely subjective.
@melodymakermark - The saddest part of this entire story, at least from how it was portrayed here, is that all of it could've been prevented if both men would've let old resentments die. Devil Anse even says as much to Randall, when Randall comes to claim his boys after his boys fatally assaulted Anse brother: "This all here sits the way it sits because of us and nobody else."
West Virginia was the eastern seaboard version of Wild West. Law was still being made, and it's the middle of nowhere. Factor in the Hatfield influence in WV and the hatred between the two families it was a bloody mess.

Don't forget about ones like Jim Vance and Perry Cline, who in their own ways kept fanning the flames.
Jim Vance mostly

The Hatfield judge???
@@J_GoTTi no that's Powers Boothe. I was referring to the lawyer who was representing the McCoys during the pig trial.
@@animaladventurer oooooh ok. Thank you for the insight!
@@J_GoTTi no problem. 👍🏼
Great movie with a great cast I've watched it over and over again
for some reason I like the sound of Perry Cline the lawyers voice.

“Don’t mind them. They’ze jus drunk, ‘at’s all”
Oops. Wrong movie.
So the judge founded them two guilty and let's them go until then?
Makes no sense to me!
Maybe it's a wild west thing then?
Could be wrong!
