You nailed it on the description of the video. The AI of the aliens from this game is actually very smart. The scariest thing is that regardless of how many game over resets you do, the alien/ enemies are programmed to remember your last hiding spots and they will be damn sure to check them more frequently. Ive learnt that the hard way lmao.
I actually had a lot of fun testing the AI. Like studying an actual animal (with a few game overs of course), just when I'd think I got the behavior down, it would throw a curve ball. This and first Dead Space are my favorite horror games ^w^
If you're using the alien to take out enemies for you (throwing a noisemaker, flare, etc) the alien WILL remember where you are if he sees you and he WILL come back to that spot to deal with you after he takes out the enemies. So if you see him run past you, make sure you move because he hasn't forgotten about you. There's actually two AIs in this game. The alien has his own AI that lets him deal with his local surroundings. But there's also a Director AI (like in Left4Dead) that manages the overall tension in the game. For example, if you haven't seen the alien in a while, the Director AI will nudge the alien to look in your general area but it won't tell the alien exactly where you are. The Director also manages the music selection and keeps the alien from wasting time, searching for you in areas that you haven't unlocked yet.

The way you slipped under that other bed was something I never seen so stealthily done before. Usually, one stays too long in the same hiding spot, but you manage to slip away right, before the alien investigated the situation. Amazing. 👏
Also, it was probably after him due to hearing his sprint, and even if you manage to hide before it catches up to you, it checks almost every hiding spot in that immediate area. I've gotten caught in this area before because I didn't relocate like he did, and paid the price. T_T
Alien looks under the table when it's on "high alert" so to speak. The high alert mode is triggered when it heard you sprint, or gunshot, or other items exploding, etc. Most of the times, when it's just casually patrolling the area, it will never look under the table/bed so it's always a good idea to hide under it rather than locker if there's a choice. Also, alien "telegraphs" when it's about to look under the table. Notice how it moves real slow around the bed at 1:22? It does that signature move right before looking under the bed. When it does that, you can be sure the fucker is about to flush you out, so you gotta move to a different hiding spot
I've just finished nightmare mode. I saw the alien checking under the desk only once, but I think it's because of my way of playing. The alien adapts. What I saw and freaked me out was the alien using the vents. That never happened to me in normal mode. I really recommend people who love this game to play it nightmare mode, it really gets more challenging.
Uh… scary enough on hard mode. My heart can’t take anything more. I’m still on my first play through; just finished the Comms area where Rilpley makes contact with her ship.
Also, the motion tracker get glitchier on the harder modes and the aliens cooldown timers (the time it takes him to go from "alert" back to regular patrols) get longer. Sound becomes really important in this game. The alien makes different sounds depending on how alert he is. There's one sound for when he gets suspicious of something and then there's the angry "you are screwed" screech when he's definitely spotted you.
It's funny because after seeing Alien in 79 I would have nightmares sometimes and I'd have to hide under beds, in closets, etc, in those nightmares while holding my breath, terrified to even let air out of my lungs. They were terrifying. Then a game came out where I could relive those glorious moments. Heh.
First time I watched Alien was when I was 9 or 10 yrs old back in the 80s; both my parents had gone off to do their night shift at the hospital where they worked; no such thing as baby-sitter in those days; and I was late-night surfing the TV channels completely alone and with the lights off, when I accidentally stumbled upon this amazing-looking sci-fi movie that I didn’t know existed and didn’t know what it was called (started watching around the scene where the Nostromo AI wakes up the crew). And by then I was already a huge fan of Star Wars and Blade Runner. So this space movie had to be great right? Well… that night I though I might die an excruciating death when I went to the bathroom to brush my teeth. Held my breath under the blankets and passed out. Later that year I found out the name of the movie and that there was a sequel. Took a very long time (years?) to work up the courage to watch it.
I enjoy these kind of clips, but this one was pretty great. It was just tight spot after tight spot, an experienced player vs a super aggressive alien. I know enough to recognize the bad situations, but not enough to know how to handle them. At the beginning I was like, "uh oh, it's going to drop behind", and boom you jumped into a locker. And then it heard you running and you hid under the table, I winced like "ooh, is he dead?", but then you snuck out of the hiding spot just in time, nice. I could only say, "Oh dang, I have GOT to try that next time!" Love this game.

That other guy already mentioned it, but it was awesome the way you switched beds to hide under. Also, I couldn't agree more about hiding in lockers. They were just too time consuming to get in and out of. Whenever I hid, it was under or behind objects.
Nightmare difficulty must be insane! I'll definitely be giving it another playthrough on that difficulty at some point. I wouldn't have even left the locker
Not a fan of stealth in general but this game is so great in that it is so much like the first Alien film and as for this clip of gameplay....very very very well played 👌
I just randomly clicked on this as the title intrigued me. I was recently watching a playthrough of Alien Isolation by Kukkaku although I'll always remember the one by Markiplier as they were so long individually. This scene was extremely close and tense. O didn't think that the alien or xenomorph would crouch down and search underneath the bed. I don't think I ever saw it before but maybe it happened while Markiplier played it but o saw that playthrough of his so long now which was within the last two years that I may have forgotten. Yeah, it was two years ago but while you know the alien can basically do anything such as being agile or swift, you may never expect it to just get on its knees and search underneath something. Yeah, it could but it's one of those most well done petrifying creatures, that you'd only expect it to just run and pounce on its players although it's very intelligent and quick thinking. I don't know. I just couldn't see it do a whole lot of human - like things....................
The cat and mouse aspect of this game was terrifying and really well done. It’s obvious they focused mainly on getting that right by maintaining a constant sense of uncertainty you can never easily manage. Too bad the other parts of the gameplay weren’t nearly as fun or fully baked.
Nightmare difficulty gives you almost nothing to craft anyway! 🤟 Even Last of Us 2's Grounded mode is more generous in craftable items! 😂 You play any difficulty below Nightmare and it's Christmas looting time! Definitively abuse its item generosity to be in control of the situation versus the pants-sheeting alien, the survivors and scarier than the deadly xenomorph, the creepy as fudge Working Joes! 😱
My first playthough was exactly as above. I crouched the entire time even when the xeno wasn't active. Second playthough I understood the mechanics much better and the alien becomes more of a nuisance.
Rule of thumb I've learnt in this game: Always be aware of your hiding options and switch it up. The AI in this game is one of the best I've ever seen, to the point where you should really just immerse yourself and consider the alien as an actual real being hunting you that can learn and adapt. Remember what hiding spots you've used before and do your absolute best to not use it more than 3 times. I've played this with friends and we have to drill into our heads who hid/escaped from the alien and how, and NOT use the same tactic. You see the alien on your radar, you turn the other way, tell the gang and pray.
This game.. No matter who i watch or what clip. I always ALWAYS hold my breath!! Wish i had balls like this so i can complete the game.... Had it since release!!

I’ve always loved this game. Once you get through the honeymoon phase of getting scared crapless it’s loads of fun. You get to where you have sort of a twisted relationship with the alien, learning to make it do what you want it to do (much easier said than done…)
I like how the guys stood their ground, not that it did them any good. Especially the first man inching forward just to come into the field of view before opening fire made the sequence quite cinematic.
Imagine adding a "evacuate bowels" function, where when it got too close you have to button-mash in order to stop your character shitting herself and drawing the alien's attention to your steaming fear
Replaying the game on hard and I'm already noticing the xenomorph is alot more aggressive this time around. Smartest thing I saw was when she immediately turned to me when I opened a door while sneaking past her (she was like 10 feet away and she still heard that shit) I didn't have the flamethrower yet so I just let her kill me. Lol

Holy shit....that was crazy. When you started running out of the locker I was yelling at my screen "FUCKING HIDE". When the footsteps were right on your ass before you hid I was jumping around lol.
I find it funny how people are scared of the cutscene. It's scripted, I just shrugged. Now the actual emergent free gameplay of it almost getting you, that's the real terror.
Best thing to do is not run but to just walk or crawl usually, but in general yeah, always use the other humans as bait or use flares or noisemakers to draw enemies/alien to each other.
This is the most annoying part of the game if you are trying for a zero deaths playthrough. Been burned more than once. Its the one of the early places where the alien can randomly pop out of the vent right in front of you, giving you no time to hide. It happens a lot in mission 10 and later, but there you have the flamethrower so it isn’t an instant death unless you’re careless and run out of fuel.
You, my good man, are a perfect survivor. I've never seen the Xenomorph check under beds but you had it fooled.
Nightmare mode make the Xenomorph check the hidding spot including under the bed and desk

The AI forgets whatever gave the Xenomorph a kill though. So, if it finds you in a locker, it wont remember that particular instance
So next time you want a clean play through, un-install the game from your computer and re-install.

Holy shit....that was crazy. When you started running out of the locker I was yelling at my screen "FUCKING HIDE". When the footsteps were right on your ass before you hid I was jumping around lol.
I the main idea of this game is basically when you see an opportunity to escape you take it .

I find it funny how people are scared of the cutscene. It's scripted, I just shrugged. Now the actual emergent free gameplay of it almost getting you, that's the real terror.
This is fucking crazy. What a game.
Best thing to do is not run but to just walk or crawl usually, but in general yeah, always use the other humans as bait or use flares or noisemakers to draw enemies/alien to each other.
Why is my right body side colder then the left one anyway,some stars like cm show lighter temperatures then actually on this milkyway brain planet.
This is the most annoying part of the game if you are trying for a zero deaths playthrough. Been burned more than once. Its the one of the early places where the alien can randomly pop out of the vent right in front of you, giving you no time to hide. It happens a lot in mission 10 and later, but there you have the flamethrower so it isn’t an instant death unless you’re careless and run out of fuel.
This alien must have very good ears whenever u run even from a mile away the alien can still hear you 🤨🤨
