Shiny hunting has allowed me to embark on a seemingly endless task, which is also mindless. I listen to podcasts or watch shows while I shiny hunt. It's something low effort that is incredibly rewarding and gives me that boost of dopamine, like you stated in your video.
I might start doing it while watching a series or something, it'll probably help because it won't feel like I'm wasting my time

I mean cant you just cheat the shinies into the game, and then listen to a podcast while beating another game you have not played or go to the gym or do something funner.

As someone who's gotten lucky enough to find a first encounter shiny legendary, aDrive's Palkia reaction wasn't over the top. I was vibin by myself, got a first encounter shiny Dialga on my birthday in 2017 or 2018 and that's exactly how I reacted lmaooo shits exciting when your prepared to spend days, weeks or even months hunting, only for it to be done immediately.

I decided to battle Rayquaza a few years ago, after getting burnt out on hunting Raikou and Reshiram, with no results. I battled Rayquaza, and after I checked the slots, I saw a black, yellow, and red Rayquaza!!!!!!!!! And I freaked the heck out!!!!!!!!

When I started playing Legends, I got TWO shiny starly before knowing much of anything. I kept one in the party and went from there. It was such a good feeling.

I feel like “shiny hunting” lost its meaning in s&v. Like. It’s stupid easy to get your odds up and with the spawn mechanics it’s stupid fast to find them.

As someone who shiny hunts A LOT, it’s definitely fun to do and the end result is always thrilling. At the same time, it adds life to a competed game and gives me something to do while I’m watching a show or doing something else depending on the hunt!

I only ever hunted for shiny in SV. I would never be able to sit and run into something thousands of times. Not for a color change. I like the colors for some. Glad they made it easier
For me, I like to shiny hunt because for me it rewards patience and I like to use my shinies in battle, the best example is my first shiny legendary Suicune, I loved using it in the battle tree and in online battles
It must feel really cathartic to spend hours looking for them when you use them in battle. Seeing them in the Hall of Fame sounds like it would be awesome
@@thevulture3776 it is, and part of the fun though as crazy as it may sound is the thrill of attempting to catch them as well, because attempting to catch a regular legend is one thing, but to have that thing finally shine after so many resets and practice runs knowing that this one is the real deal, that this is the elusive rare variant you’ve been chasing and that of you fail here, all those hours will be for nothing. It makes the process of catching it feel even more intense. If you ever get the chance to go back and play one of the games where you can shiny hunt a legendary I fully recommend it, the feeling is amazing, when I first did it I was doubtful but after I got that shiny Suicune and I proved to myself that I can do it, it gave me the confidence to hunt others.
This. Being rewarded in general feels amazing, especially if it's deserved but rewarded for patience hits different.
@thevulture3776 if you ever want to shiny hunt in old games, I recommend Ultra sun and Ultra moon. Shiny charm only needs regional dex and there's fun ways to hunt like sos and wormhole shinies. Also it let's you get most of the legendaries in the game to that point so great variety of pokemon to hunt for.

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I constantly rewatch all of the TFS Nuzlockes and the Fallout 4 playthrough when I just want something on or when I'm working on something. They remind me of simpler times tbh
It was only after gen 6 when game freak actually chose shiny colours instead of rather random or algorithm-based sequences. That was the same generation to have 10+ ways to increase shiny odds significantly.
I believe about 90% of shinies were chosen by an algorithm in gen 1-5 and ever since gen 6 every shiny has been manually designed
I really love shiny hunting, I understand that its not for everyone but it's very mind numbing and I like passing the time by singing or doing it with friends
This video is great. I used to be skeptical about shiny hunting too, especially because of my low attention span thanks to my ADHD. However, once I tried it, I got hooked. To date, my longest hunt ever is almost 50k soft resets on Bill's eevee in soulsilver. Took me two years, but now I treasure this eevee. He is my son.
sometimes i can hyperfocus on shiny hunting with my ADHD sometimes i can't, my most recent example of this was deciding to clear out my 10 boxes of attempted masuda method eggs i bred but lost interest in hatching
one sandwich and like 75 hatched eggs later, I hatched a shiny charmander. he had been an egg in these boxes for nearly 5 months. he was laid on april fools day, out of the eggs i hatched only 12 were charmanders, which means if i had hatched half a box more in april i wouldve had him already

@@ChileMoore I haven't evolved it yet (because I'm still working on completing my shiny team) but it's going to be an umbreon eventually! I originally wanted a glaceon, but its nature lowers its special attack. Umbreon has a cooler shiny anyway lol
@@viral4983 Funny enough, I've never hyper focused on shiny hunting. Shiny hunting is what's helping me from hyper focusing on things. Having something else to fiddle around with while I work helps me pay attention more. ADHD works in mysterious ways sometimes

The shiny Being AI was proven wrong long ago because of the way color sliders on Gameboy works. Someone chose to make some of these shinys bad concisely
It should be noted that Marshadow DOES look different... there is just a shadow covering him...
And I think custom Shiny Pokemon became more common only in later generations...

Shiny hunting is so much easier in Scarlet/Violet with the introduction of the sandwich mechanic and the mass outbreak mechanic. Date skip until you find an outbreak of the pokemon you want or find a spot where the pokemon you want is the only one of its type in the area. SAVE YOUR GAME. Then set up a picnic, make your sandwich, and then kill 60 of the pokemon you want in the outbreak. After that, run around spawning the pokemon in and out until you spot a shiny sprite in the group, or you could release your lead pokemon to attack in the overworld. In Let's Go mode, your pokemon won't attack a shiny pokemon (super helpful with the ones who don't look much different than their non shiny sprite.)

I'm glad you havent heard about Mark Hunting, cause as someone who is more avid about combining the 2 activities, I feel like a lunatic.
And for anyone curious, starting in Sword and Shield, all wild Pokemon have a chance at having mark, or title that can appear before battle. There are a large variety of them, and if you ever have the time, just check your PC, look at the space where the ribbons for your older pokemon to have.
I'll highlight my favorite Marks so far
I have Chocobo the Feisty, my Marked Galarian Zapdos, keep in mind, this is before I was aware of marks, and I was merely hunting for an Adamant one.
Phixie, my Shiny, Thunderstruck, Brilliant Aura Yamper. It's more of a common mark for the hunt I was on, and the Brilliant Aura for Sand Attack egg move was alright to say the least. I didn't count encounters, but I have the shiny charm, and let's go with around 300+ encounters.
Esperou, my Anxious Shiny Espeon. Got this fella as my first famous Mark in Scarlet. Was interesting to discover this title, and it's made all the better that my green lad was in I think my only Friend Ball. I just love Espeon, I saw the outbreak, and a few resets later, I got him under my first sandwhich.

Shiny hunted in a bunch of games on the DS and switch. My most successes have funnily enough been in X and Y and then in Violet. I have 4 boxes full of shinies in Violet either from Masuda Method, Outbreaks, or just random encounters! It really does give the happy chemical, as well as a GREAT time pass for almost no brain power, or hyper focus when you need to distract yourself. (Depends on the method ofc.) But I'm glad you understand how fun it is! Plus getting to share and compare with your friends is a always a good time!
Shiny hunting is a good outlet for my gambling addiction. Instead of "oh just one more spin" its "oh just one more egg"
I do shiny hunts cause it gets me dopamine, something to brag about ,and gambling cause u dk when u gonna hit a shiny (currently typing this while hunting gen 4 shiny suicune 2nd attempt)

On the real tho, great video! I’ve been a shiny hunter since 2017 and I’ve done a number of hunts, my most proud hunts were in sapphire, my shiny Treecko then shiny Kyogre on the same play through! Full odds babyyyyy. My worst shiny fail was full odds Groudon in Soul Silver…haven’t been the same since then 😅

It’s just fun and something to do. I don’t have anything to do after I beat the games I don’t do competitive battles or anything like that so it helps keep the game fun
One of the best videos about Shiny Hunting I have ever seen! You explain it really well. Just bought Omega Ruby two months ago just because of Shiny Hunting. But then, finishing the game and starting to really shiny hunt is just.... Not so fun when you want to do it quickly. You need to sit down, relax and take the time for it, I think....
simply put its both relaxing and exciting at the same time
i dont think its fair to frame shiny hunting as a free dopamine trip, because if you spend so long with little reward throughout and little payout at the end then youll grow bored quickly. in my experience shiny hunting is best enjoyed as a compliment to other parts of life; and i dont just mean multitasking. if you do and experience many things during the hunt itll start to feel, to be cliche, a lot more about the journey than the destination. watching shows, going on walks, talking with friends, etc. i think its part of the reason streaming it is so popular. and all of that contributes to make the shiny you get at the end a lot more rewarding and meaningful.

The important thing to understand about shinies is that they're not for everyone. If you're the kind of person who puts down a game when you've beaten it, or you have a passionate hatred for grinding or any monotonous task in a game, you will NOT like shiny hunting.

I shiny hunt and the best way to do it is when you're watching something like a movie, Tv show or sports...hunt in the background and it wont get boring
Something else as well is when you find your very first Shiny Pokémon. A lot of Shiny Hunters, I'd say we're trying to recapture that feeling and we just don't know it.
Some players ran into a Shiny as a kid and didn't even know what it was. Thinking our games were bugged or we got something super powerful.
I remember when I caught the Shiny Garyados at the Lake of Rage in Heart Gold I thought it was just a really pissed off Garyados and it hit harder than most.

Always overdramatic about everything down to his thumbnails which annoys a lot of people including myself. It's why I stopped watching him years ago. I appreciate Nokimon, ShinyCatherine, and sxperpotion for reminding me why shiny pokemon were unique and made me like it again.
I’ve been shiny hunting since around the release of x & y. It’s definitely not for everyone but it’s a fun time killer. I always recommend shiny hunting while watching youtube (how I do most of my hunts) or with friends. Finding a shiny with other people is one of the most incredible feelings you can have playing a Pokémon game.
honestly my favorite hunts are full odds gen 3 hunts, between the extra excitement that comes with the higher odds. the ability to do anything else for entertainment due to the simplicity of the hunt, the higher speed encounters happen at, and just the nice 2d shiny sprites. it really just makes for the nicest experience for me. as someone who has hunted some of the worst hunts, methods, full odds, all gens. it’s just my favorite every time (and if i really feel like showing them off in later games, i can always pop em over to emerald to clone them without having to give up the nice 2d sprite)
I started avidly shiny hunting in 2013 when X and Y came out and only ever stuck to the friend safari because that was the easiest place to find them, I feel like quick hunts always feel like a let down because, atleast in my case, it doesn't feel earned. It's still fully welcomed but something just doesn't feel right, but I've started hunting in my Gen 3 games this year and it feels so rewarding to get them, plus I can rewatch tv shows or listen to whatever and just pluck away at it mindlessly. That's why I enjoy it
It's also an alternative to going out and getting into trouble 😊

I found my very first wild shiny today. In Violet, I was in one of the Biomes and found a Popplio that was shiny by pure luck. I wasn't hunting or anything. It was a full odds encounter too. No shiny charm, no sandwich used.
I was so damn happy because up until this point, I had never encountered a wild shiny EVER. All the shinies I have were given to me as gifts, I had yet to catch a shiny of my own.
I just recently completed my first two shiny hunts: OmegaRuby Ho-Oh and OmegaRuby Reshiram. My cartridge is modded and basically had everything needed for the shiny charm since the start, so after beating the game, I went directly to the lab for my charms. I decided to go for the Shiny Ho-Oh first because it was one of the only shinies I really wanted that wasn't on my cartridge. Shiny Rayquaza? Check. Shiny Dialga, Palkia, Giratina? Check. Shiny Xerneas, Yveltal? Check. Shiny Ho-Oh? No. I like shiny hunting in OmegaRuby especially because it's passive. I can multitask while shiny hunting, but I also thought I'd never encounter that shiny Ho-Oh. But after 4-5 hours of encountering, my shiny came. I was really surprised to have finally gotten it and I was very thankful that I could make use of those 900+ Master Balls modded into my cartridge. Needless to say, the Reshiram took longer, but it still took less-than 24 hours. It's not something I'd do all the time, but sometimes, I like diving into a passive activity like this, especially when I feel like I have nothing to do.
Dude, I’ve been on a mission to complete my national Pokédex in black version 2 for like the past 3-4 years, so I can unlock the shiny charm. Black 2 was my first Pokémon game, and I feel like completing the Pokédex and getting the shiny charm (despite how hard it is), will feel like a massive accomplishment personally. The only shiny I’ve gotten in that game that wasn’t that static encounter Haxorus and Gible was a male shiny Combee, and I’m determined to get more. Plus, the whole process of just completing the Pokédex has been a lot of fun. (For reference, I’m only missing like 110 Pokémon out of the entire National dex as of right now.) (if anyone might have more, I’ve got plenty of extra legendaries I’m willing to trade. I still need multiple starters, and some exclusives)

Fair warning though, if anyone wants to actually get the shiny charm in that game, the process is EXCRUCIATING (if you do it without cheats). Just to complete the Pokédex, I’ve needed to buy both black and white, AND white 2, Emerald, Platinum, Soul silver, and I’ve had to trade over certain exclusives from my brother’s copy of heartgold, because what I have still doesn’t have access to all the Pokémon I need.
I used to love Shiny hunting, that is until the hacking community went insane with it to the point where the regular colored Pokémon became more appealing by contrast.
It’s sad really.
For me it's a fun hobby to do plus it's a huge stress relief. Especially after the past few years with COVID and all. I currently have a couple hundred shinies and counting. Awesome video!

I'm a pretty casual shiny hunter.
I've never reset, egg hatched, poke radared, or anything like that. Tried catch combo long enough to get 4 pidgeys and 2 rattatas but it didn't click for me collectively it was just several hours per shiny, like 4 minimum. I will only shiny hunt if I feel the odds are actually worth my time.
Pokémon Go community days and festival events are a great source for me. Just this weekend during Go Fest 2023 I caught 48 shinies of various pokemon in two days for example.
Mass Outbreaks are something I'll always check out while playing Arceus, since it's always worth taking a peek, even if I don't get one. Outbreaks are great for progressing Pokedex progress too, which will further increase shiny odds for each entry you finish.
And sandwiches in S/V are excellent. Your odds of finding at least one shiny from a sandwich are higher than not. And you can play with your friends and hunt together, which is a blast.
I just don't like grinding. Anything that feels like grinding is a no-go for me. None of these methods actually feel like it though. It just feels like playing the game and being rewarded with boosted odds for doing it.
I've heard that the sandwiches get pretty ridiculous in SV, I might check them out for another video. And I definitely underestimated how long it would take in some cases
My first shiny was an onix in soul silver, I was at a sleepover and had recently seen Chuggaaconroy find a shiny koffing in crystal. I've been hunting ever since, rn I'm soft resetting for a shiny sudowoodo in crystal, it's taking a while
The reason I like shiny hunting is primarily the rarity of a shiny Pokemon. The idea I hunted for something rare and they proceeded to find it is something I think I'll love forever. As someone who is a collector, shiny Pokemon give me something to collect after I complete the National Pokedex in Pokemon Black 2 in under a month of owning it (yes I am that kind of player lmao). Currently I have some shiny Legendary Pokemon I'm planning to hunt in Black 2 since I now have the shiny charm, being Terrakion, Cresselia, Verizon, and Regigigas. And if possible Masuda Method hunting in Black 2, although I'd need a Ditto from another language, which I might have thanks to people playing other irl language games using the GTS on the PokeClassic Network. Highly recommend that btw if you want to complete the National Dex in BW2

Well, a lot of these shiny hunters have a certain goal in mind when shiny hunting. Such as "Dream Teams" Where they get a full team of shiny pokemon they want throughout their playthrough, "Shiny Badge quests" also Fall under this territory which is a challenge mode where you have to get a shiny before every badge (Some Crazy lads actually implement Nuzlocke rules into this sometimes). And there are certain events such as 'Safari week' where they spend a whole week hunting for shiny pokemon that could flee, that event is based around the adrenaline rush you get because the chances of failing the shiny are rather high depending on the pokemon.
When I shiny hunt, it's because I like that certain shiny. I'm not like those other shiny hunters who just sit in a patch of grass and brainlessly RE until they get 'something'. I think this is why the "ISHC" event died.
I started shiny hunting this year and already have half of the Pokédex shiny shiny and it honestly really fun way to pass the time
In my opinion, the best use of the Shiny Charm isn't in the post game. With Pokemon Home, you can store your living dex, so I usually do the work once and then load up the Pokedex of a new save at the start. Depending on the game, you can get Shiny Charm pretty early, boosting odds for the rest of the playthrough. The current games, Scarlet and Violet, make it pretty easy to get the boosted odds in one hour of gameplay. Once you get your ride Pokemon, you are free to go back to the biology class and get the Shiny Charm. You also get a set of special pokeballs at the start of every game. It only costs about five to ten minutes to move the boxes from Home to your current save and back.
I've never thought about playing a game like this, it sounds like an interesting way to spice up a playthrough
Here’s my story with shiny Pokémon my first Pokémon game ever was Pokémon sun, and after I beat the post game in already collected the shiny charm and was just wandering around the map and I was swimming in Hank Beach water there was an ambush a encounter and it was a shiny tentacool. And that started my entire shiny hunting journey right now, there’s 6+ boxes full of shiny Pokémon in different games, mostly ultra sun, and I mostly stopped mostly due to real life reasons, but I will gladly come back to find something new shiny Pokémon.

Only reason to shiny hunt is if want shiny of your favorite pokemon that looks better with shiny colors, otherwise easy shinies of any kind has lesser value.
As someone who has hunted for about 10 years doing method and playing the new games is not the same feeling as full odds it’s not about increasing odds because that devalues the shiny in most peoples eyes

First successful hunt I had that got me into shiny hunting was my shiny honedge with pretty good stats that I hatched using the Masuda method in shield. Currently shiny hunting all the starters! So far, I got charmander, bulbasaur(fr), chikorita, totodile(hg), and a mudkip(ruby). I think the higher odds make it a little more rewarding!

There was exact reasons why shiny colours were decided... at least early one they simply selected the next numbered colour pallet in a list. That isn't like a rumour or speculation or anything, that's the exact reason. Modern ones.. idk, what ever they feel like I guess..
Pokemon has always been one of my favorite game series and shiny hunting became something to relax to and keep the game going after completing it. Finding the ones I like most first then do random encounters for the rest of a living shiny dex just as a challenge. Not all shinies give me the OMG OMG OMG feelings, but those few moments of one you want that you weren't expecting just so happens to appear give me so much joy.

i've never understood it, a random shiny feels one in million. a hunted shiny feels like it's a one in one, i was going to keep hunting till i got it anyway so the odds of getting it are 100%
One of the big appeals for me is being able to have a special variant of some of my favorite Pokemon. It feels like a way to show my fondness towards a certain Pokemon
This is exactly how I feel about Platinum Trophies on PlayStation. If I especially love a game then I'll put the time in to get all of the trophies, I see it as my own little stamp of approval

Right now i'm trying to get a Shiny Torchic on my Omega Ruby its been 3 days and still nothing. I'm currently unemployed so i decided to give it a shot and since this is my first time shiny huntingi find myself a little annoyed but mainly by the speed of my 3DS cause the soft reset process feel kinda slow but it's helping me keep my mind of the unemployedness. Hopefully i get him soon i only today decided to start counting the number of Soft Resets.
Update: I did it!!!! After 4Days i did it!!!! a Shiny Torchic!!!! Woooohooo!!!!!

Completing a living shiny dex sounds like torture especially in the early generations
To be fair I think you can get almost all Shiny Pokémon with the newer odds post-XY, with the Shiny Charm and abusing the newer methods that just hand out shinies, I think it's doable
In Gen 2, where shiny pokemon were originally added to the game, you can get 1/64 odds if you breed using a shiny ditto, or 1/128 odds if you use a shiny who isn't a ditto. As somebody who's been shiny hunting on a single Crystal save file for over a year, and currently has 75 shinies under their belt, I can certainly say. Gen 2 is wild
