About that cut off note - there's a legend about the guy who played the hejnał. In the early hours of morning, he climbed on the top of the tower and he spotted a Tatar horde approaching to invade Kraków. He tried to warn people, so he did the only thing he could - he started playing his trumpet. A Tatar archer killed him with an arrow and that's why the hejnał ends on a cut off note. Thanks to his sacrifice, the town was able to defend itself. It's a legend but I think it's interesting how it's still incorporated into the local culture

There was never a famine in Poland like in Western Europe because two types of grain were grown, one was resistant to light frost, and the Polish nobility could not engage in trade under the threat of losing their nobility title, and they were the owners of the land. So they imported Jews, the most suitable ones. for trade .
