I love seeing someone treat their horses with respect and love. I am always so afraid to click on "teaching" videos because some of them are just so cruel and disgusting. You are an amazing young lady and you have so much patience which is rare. Great work and I have subbed :-).
This little gal is a wonderful horse woman at such a young age! Wish I had had that opportunity when I was young. What a good smart boy little Nemo is. Keep it up!
Because of your videos my horse has done so well with Liberty and Free Riding. She has learned to rear, Liberty, Stand on a block, and more. Thank you so much Juliette! You inspire me literally everyday. Thank you so so much for making these tutorials. 💟💖❤
Omg this is perfect. I currently own 2 newforest yearlings who came off the forest last year and liberty would just be perfect to help them stay focused on their learning journey
Y’know… this comment may have been 4 years ago but it’s sand in the arena, it creates very good footing for the horses, you can still use it if it’s wet too
I have a horse where i live and i really wanted to teach her liberty! This is gonna be a big help!! Thanks, Plus i really love to see someone with a friendship relationship, my old trainer with most of her horses hers was built out of fear.. So i love to see this its almost amazing how much they can listen. thanks again. :3
my horse is doing good! not my horse, but the horse I'm training. learning in first day! he's a miniature pony, and I barely need the whip or lead anymore! I'll start with the whip to refresh his memory, but he's doing great! thanks! ;) I'm also teaching him to bow. he's doing good with bowing to. just thank you!!!
I just want to tell you, that i have used this method of teaching my pony liberty, and it worked VERY well for my pony and me. I have in a long time haved problems with my pony in groundwork, because he think it is boring. He ran away from me everytime i told him to do a trick or something and i couldn´t catch him again. Today when i tried this, he ran to me with so much energy and happiness, with his ears focused on me. I could take the rope away and make tricks and he stayed with me all the time after training this liberty. :D So thank you for sharing these amazing videos, it definently helped me! :) (Sorry for bad english, i´m from Denmark. :P )
This might sound like a silly question but can any type of horse do liberty work??? I have a cob, and I love liberty work but have never seen a cob doing it and would love to teach him. Thanks
+Allison Gillmore Actually, ANY horse is capable of learning this type of thing. If you're controlling the feet (Like she is in the video, such as moving his feet when he wasn't paying attention to her) any horse under the sun will understand the concept, because that is how horses communicate among themselves. :)
This video has really helped me! I found with other videos they didn't explain it tell you that the horse doesn't always listen and how to solve this and also other people work with horses that have already been trained! I'll be watching all your Liberty videos as I'm interested in doing Liberty work with my filly
Thank you so much for this video! I've watched it a bunch of times and have being following it for two days on my shetland pony filly and I can't believe how good she is at it already - she seems to totally get it! She's only 9 months old so I don't want to do too much with her yet but this has been so much fun and I love doing it with her :) Thanks again :D
Tysm for this video! I plan on doing a little bit of this with a horse im starting to loan on Friday, she is 13 and she already follows me naturally without me asking, but these will help me with improving our relationship :) thank you so much xo
I also do liberty's with our paint mare she is now ten, and always knows she watches for every move, and mirrors what we do in our round pen ,open pasture, like a big ol puppie
Turn the grass to.your advantage .....do exactly the same steps as in this video and add into the game "its not time to eat"...... put your attention on me my dear horse!" and you will end up with an even stronger bond than if you worked without grass! I dont have an arena - I have to work on grass !!!! Its harder to start with but the end result is a stronger bond.
XD i can't believe i tried to teach my horse tricks when i was 8, to be honest I probably taught her more stuff by the time i was 10 than a normal riding horse would learn but DAYUMM i did NOT know what i was doing. This video just slapped me in the face
very informative. Thank you for this video. What to do with a horse that kicks out with hind feet? I don't have a horse, but I have seen some horses at the lease stables that kick out when they are walking by someone.
Hi love your videos! I taught my miniature horse liberty And I have some suggestions for videos! I saw u trying to get your horse Oreo to do the capriole and I would love to learn how u taught that especially how to teach it from the ground so I can train my miniature horse that. And I would like to know how to train a horse the piaffe from the ground too
amazing video!!! really helpful i want to start doing liberty work and was looking into getting a miniature in the future. u really helped me learn the first few steps of liberty work. thx so much xoxox
I want to start some liberty with my almost 3YO mare. We did a lot of work on the ground before but no liberty. I saw in the video that you are using treats. Did you also do it without before? i Don't really want to give her treats and just want to do it by a positive voice and rubbing ... do you think this will also work?
I have a Shetlandpony she's 2 years now and im doing groundwork and trick training and she follows me even if I never trained that! But I want to teach this my mare hopefully the video helps me❤
Hi, do you use a lunge whip or dressage whip or both? And do you use a dressage whip to train your horses to do other tricks? Also what are the benefits of liberty? Thanks.
You're incredible. I would love to teach my horse how to do liberty but she won't yeild her hind quarters.... And when I take her bridle off she just runs away. I have watched all of your training videos and several others. Does anyone have any advice
Is it possible to do this without a whip? Especially concerning the more advanced moves? My mare was abused so she is terrified of them and i don't want her to associate the playing with something that makes her uncomfortable. If i bring a whip near she starts freaking out, racing around and sweats profusely.
my horse used to be the same. he's an ex harness horse so he has probably been whiped lots of times during his life. take it slowly with the desensitisation and maybe just start with a whip on the ground making them target it or just stepping closer to it. thats really how i started out with it. now he is starting to see whips as play and rewards instead of getting beat. clicker training is really great, you can reward any small step and make so much process. so I really recommend that. then when your horse is comfortable with a whip you can start liberty training like this
+Nicoletta Pierini I would desensitize her to it before trying to work with it. Set a small dressage whip somewhere and lead her up to it. Don't go too close, it she's okay and relaxed, reward her. Circle and come back to the same spot, reward. Advance closer. Don't go too far or it may set back your training. When she gets close, let her sniff it. Reward. Circle back around. :)
Nicoletta Pierini you need to do lots of desensitizing with the whip before you start, rub her with the whip and if she moves away from it just follow her until she stops moving and shows you a sign of relaxing than take the whip away and reward her.
I taught my 3 year old that had agression issues without a whip at all. She didn't reposnd well to that type of pressure, if you would like to know more about how let me know.
hello i have been trying to teach my mini to start liberty. he does great with the Follow Me game, but as soon as i let him off the rope and he is not paying attention. I try to chase him like you said to do, he refuses to move. he is so immune to ;the whip that he has no respect for it and won't move. i have tried to up my energy and yell and swing the whip( but never hit him) but he will. not. move. i don't know what to do about it. if you have any ideas please help! Also as soon as i ;ask him to start to do the Come To Me game, he refuses to go into a lunging circle. i don't know why but it seems he is confused about what i am asking him, but i don't know how to make it more clear. i simply point the direction i want him to go and swing the whip but he swings his haunches like were playing the follow me game and stands there. he won't go in a circle. any ideas? thank you so much for your time, sincerely, Kobain
I love all your how to's! Gives a lot of inspiration! :D Could you make a video of how to get a relaxed hore in trot? One of my horses tend to get really tense when we train the trot(both riding and on the ground) :)
I lease an appendix mare named Tipsey and at my barn where I ride we don't have a lot of room where I could do some of this stuff. Is it better to do it in an arena or could I do it in a pasture with flat land? To my knowledge she has had no training with liberty and can get really agressive at times when I have a lunge whip with a string at the end so would a dressage whip work? My friend has one that she uses when she rides this Percheron. She trusts me though but like a mare can be stubborn. She'll follow me for a few minutes after I lunge her and do join up. Please answer my questions as this would be most appreciated
I started doing liberty training with my horses after watching your videos and they love it 😃 It didn't take long for them to get it and it is so fun being able to train them like that on the ground instead of just riding them all the time. But one question though; does anyone know how to teach your horse to back up when you stand behind him? 🤔 I've seen a lot of people do it and I'm very curious about how they taught the horse to do it 😊
Hi, thank you for this video. I do have a question: how do you teach the horse to run to you in stead of just a slow walking? Would love to hear from you.
hey, I love your videos (and instagram.) I'm wondering if you could do more videos with Nemo. I'm getting my own miniature next month and I want to do liberty with him. I only trust this account with liberty because your AMAZING !!!!
miniatures are awesome but they're also kinda assholes at times so be prepared to spend more time with manners at the beginning. they're really genius too!!! They're quite the characters
i really really love your breeches. where did you get them? if you dont mind me asking :) also ive watched alot of liberty starting videos and yours is by far the best(ive actually watched all your videos and youre definitely a role model now!!!) ill be using this to start my boyfriends horse on liberty!
Hi, I used this method with two of my horses, and they picked it up really well and loved it! They both showed lots of energy when chasing me, and i had no problem getting them to trot and canter after me. However, I've started doing this with another pony, and he gets the concept of moving his haunches really well, but I can't seem to get any energy; he'll only walk after me. Have you got any tips for creating more energy when he's following me? Thank you
My haflinger is great at following me, but I am having a hard time getting him to pick up his speed and actually trot or run with me...any suggestions? I have tried raising my energy and making it more playful and he gets treat rewards, he just doesnt want to go fast or keep up with my pase.
hi I am just starting to train my horse and was just wondering does it matter the age of the horse ? I have a colt and a 14 year old and was wondering who I should start with?
hi i have a miniature Shetland like yours but i really want to teach him liberty but i cant go and teach him everyday i can only do once a week, would that matter as i know it would take a bit longer but does it matter? and secondly he is 5 years old and he still has a though aggression issues and i was wondering what you would do to stop them? they are things like biting and kicking out. your videos are amazing and i really love your tutorials they are so so helpful, i would be very grateful if you could reply thankyou x
I love watching your videos and am hoping to start getting into liberty with my own horse. I was curious if anyone taught you what you know or if you were self taught? Thanks!
My aunt's Arab is 30 and he's just started learning liberty. He's doing great with it and really enjoys it. It doesn't matter how old the horse is, if you think it would be a good idea, go ahead!
Hello, I've never done this before but I have started working with an abused horse for a behavior class and I would love to do this but can you do it without using the whip to move his body? can you just use a lead rope and hater and have it work?
Is there an extra step you can do with a very nervous and naughty horse? I have a horse at my barn that’s always very separated from the herd and I want her to be able to build a relationship with someone or thing. She’s difficult to handle because of her previous owner, who was very inexperienced and ended up being harsh otherwise, so I don’t know if this will be a good starting place for her. Thanks so much for the tutorial!
I thought I would try these things with the horse I lease to spice up the boring arena work . He's not sensitive to the whip at all, is happy to follow me around the arena, zig zagging etc, but as soon as I run, he either stops and watches me go or just ambles along , eventually catching up to me. Is this just something he's doing because this is the first time we've done this or can I do something to encourage him to put more energy into it?
That is thr very best way for me to begin with liberty. I saw this video, and all others too, and think, you cant loose. Because at this time we had a very difficult time and he dont want to do everythink.... So I do it like you in the video and after a few minutes I can put the line away and he stayed with me! I were one step bevore crying becsuse I were so happy. So thank you for this tips!!! (and sorry for my bad english, I am a german girl and not soooo good in english..... have you Insagramm?)
With a normal sized horse (quarter horse) what is their reaction when you are running around? My mare runs after us when we run and I always thought it's because they think we are running away from something scary, so they run too. What do I need to do?
I've just got a loan pony called sherry and she's a 24-year-old British riding pony. I know from her owners that I can do liberty with her and she is fine with whips but I'm scared I'll do something wrong. any extra tips or advice? P.S I also help look after miniature shetlands and their liberty was a fail because they are very scared of whips also what whip do you use
What would you do with a horse who is a little more aggressive or "overzealous" when you do the "follow me"? My horse isn't aggressive about it typically, but sometimes he can invade my space and I'm afraid it will turn into aggression.
I have been starting to work on this with my horse.. He does a great job of yeilding his haunches but when I want him to lunge he just yeilds his haunches. How do I differeniate between the two?
It completely depends on his temperament. If he’s pretty laid back then this is probably a great starting place. I suggest looking up specifics if he’s more on the nervous, playful, or lazy side. I’m trying to do the same because the horse I want to teach liberty is really nervous.
Hi, I have watched a few of your videos and I really like your methods! But I have some issues with my 4 year old KWPN gelding, he is an amazing boy and very curious so we already practised him following and coming towards me and he does great! (except when he's in the paddock and just ignores me when I call him haha) But now when I want to lunge him or get him away from me he doesn't, and I over use the whip a lot when I get frustrated and I really don't want him to associate the whip with bad things, but now we've already come to the point where he refuses to let me swipe the whip softly over him and he even broke two leading ropes to get away... Tips? And also, since his third he has been driven in front of the carriage but he learnt to never canter in front of the carriage so I cannot get him into canter without him becoming terribly unbalanced and leading to him bucking. I have been working on his trot in circles and small pole work and if I'm honest I am becoming too nervous to ask for canter in case he throws me off. When I ask for canter his trot just becomes faster and faster and he may give me one or two strides before he starts bucking... His back and saddle both have been checked. Any suggestions? SORRY FOR THE INSANELY LONG STORY OH GOD
I love seeing someone treat their horses with respect and love. I am always so afraid to click on "teaching" videos because some of them are just so cruel and disgusting. You are an amazing young lady and you have so much patience which is rare. Great work and I have subbed :-).

Kind of off topic, but what on earth is in the arena? I really love that footing. What kind is it??
Y’know… this comment may have been 4 years ago but it’s sand in the arena, it creates very good footing for the horses, you can still use it if it’s wet too
I cannot get over how freaking cute that little guys is.

I have a Shetlandpony she's 2 years now and im doing groundwork and trick training and she follows me even if I never trained that! But I want to teach this my mare hopefully the video helps me❤

I want to do this with my horse but I don't have and enclosed arena or round pen😢😪 and awesome video I learnt heaps☺️😘🐎👌🏻
hi i have a miniature Shetland like yours but i really want to teach him liberty but i cant go and teach him everyday i can only do once a week, would that matter as i know it would take a bit longer but does it matter?
and secondly he is 5 years old and he still has a though aggression issues and i was wondering what you would do to stop them? they are things like biting and kicking out. your videos are amazing and i really love your tutorials they are so so helpful, i would be very grateful if you could reply thankyou x
I love watching your videos and am hoping to start getting into liberty with my own horse. I was curious if anyone taught you what you know or if you were self taught? Thanks!
Do you have to start them young? I've had to retire my 13yr old cob but want to try this to keep his brain active!
Nope! My nine year old is learning this! A horse of any age can learn with the right training imo!
Thank you for making this!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)
Is this just something he's doing because this is the first time we've done this or can I do something to encourage him to put more energy into it?
where did you learn all this is there such a thing as a liberty trainer?

My horse has aggression issues.. I would love to do this but I’m scared he’ll attack me. Do u have any tips for aggression in the cross ties?
I've been thinking about training the horse I lease to do some liberty work. Any extra advice for me? He's a 16.3hh quarter horse/paint cross :)
It completely depends on his temperament. If he’s pretty laid back then this is probably a great starting place. I suggest looking up specifics if he’s more on the nervous, playful, or lazy side. I’m trying to do the same because the horse I want to teach liberty is really nervous.
Hello! I’m extremely new to Liberty and want to teach my 4yr pony it. The only thing is, we don’t have access to a field. Is this a problem?
My horse likes to be in front of me (shoulder to shoulder) and try's to direct/anticipate where I am going. Do you have any advice?
Hi, I have watched a few of your videos and I really like your methods! But I have some issues with my 4 year old KWPN gelding, he is an amazing boy and very curious so we already practised him following and coming towards me and he does great! (except when he's in the paddock and just ignores me when I call him haha)
But now when I want to lunge him or get him away from me he doesn't, and I over use the whip a lot when I get frustrated and I really don't want him to associate the whip with bad things, but now we've already come to the point where he refuses to let me swipe the whip softly over him and he even broke two leading ropes to get away...
