when i was in the army i missed home at the holidays big diners and family. now that i am out of the army i miss the mess halls on holidays where rank was set aside and everyone ate together eating as much as your belly could fit. Holidays in the military are awesome they really are special days.
The best Thanksgiving dinner I have ever had was at the chow hall at Fort Knox when I was going to OSUT in 1991. They absolutely loaded us up and the food was excellent and the Drill Sergeant's ate with us as well.....they even let us take a styrofoam container loaded with desserts back to the barracks.

They have the second best chow in the military. The Airforce has the best, then the Navy, then the Army, last is the Marines.

I am Japanese.
In Japan, valuable traditions and culture are being lost, as the memorial day etc. are now moving on Monday and Friday instead of traditional traditional days, and it has been consecutive holidays.
Great chow for our Navy guys and gals...I was just another grunt with the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Nam from Oct. 67-Oct 68..Go Navy!!
☝Proud Navy Mom! Thank you for your service Sailor's
Thank you for your support
I did 6 yrs. sea duty aboard ship and I can tell ya, we ate good. Our cooks were great and they worked their asses off.
Glad to see them eating well and they are serving foo with rubber glove on.
Thank you all what you do looks amazing
I was in the Navy for 4 years and never ate better. Every Sunday we had steak and eggs. Lobster every week. And that was in Argentia Newfoundland.
And when it came to fight War you probably ran underneath the Rock
. . . the greatest navy anywhere -- extremely thankful for these kids! (US Army Vietnam vet)
Which years did you serve in Vietnam?
Memories of my day on the USS Harry S. Truman. The food onboard that ship was always good, but this is what boosts morale. I remember Christmas Day in 2000 on our Maiden Deployment we had every kind of seafood that you could think of. My stomach exploded that day. Keep feeding them and bring out more ice cream for the ice cream social. These shipmates deserve it. Nothing worst than being away from your family. God Bless you all
Wow! Looks a lot different than when I was in..’81 - ‘85. Thanks for y’all’s service, it’s appreciated...BZ!

I spent two Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays deployed on the USS John F Kennedy CV-67 in 1986 and in 1988 and the spread that they had for us was delicious! Kudos to the culinary staff!
