Shelf Cloud & Strong Thunderstorm in Leander/Cedar Park, TX - 9/25/2016

- I was not expecting this today; never seen anything like it in my entire 17 years of living here! My only regrets are not using my tripod and not talking a bit less for better ambience (though there was some lightning present & I did NOT want a tripod outside with me!). I hope everyone enjoys my footage! :)

I do too; we don't get shelf clouds very often here in Central Texas!

I'm in Michigan, I was riding my bike back to my house, and one of these was behind me. Its was like 9x bigger, more ominous, and super dark. It was about to engulf me. As soon as I got home it was pounding outside!
grew up there and still visit family in the area often ... and that was a frequent occurrence during certain times of the year. Love the storms!!

Well it's actually Oregon. Which makes it a lot more weird. I am waiting for some of the big winter storms from Alaska to hit so i can finally try out my rain jacket i got for my camera

Is it normal to have shelf cloud with weak thunder???
Yep! You can have weaker thunderstorms with shelf clouds that don't exhibit much thunder, though this particular storm had a lot more lightning once the core of it passed over my location, including a bolt that struck close to my house miles away from the storm (that I unfortunately didn't record)
